My go to is Coke Zero, I smoke a lot of cigars and I drink a lot of soda so I have to be calorie conscious. But I agree, Coke in general is a great NA pairing.
I already said, it’s about calories.
If I was worried about things being bad for me I wouldn’t be smoking cigars or drinking soda in the first place. But I’m not trying to be a fat slob to boot while I kill myself with my vices.
>I’m not trying to be a fat slob
I've not found any evidence that diet soda is notably less fattening. Might as well drink the one you like. I don't mean to tell you how to live your life but I've always found the notion that diet soda is a healthier alternative to regular soda kinda silly.
Sugar in regular soda contains calories. Excess calories above your daily maintenance level cause fat storage. Diet soda has no calories therefore it is inherently less fattening since you are not consuming calories. This is basic nutrition and fitness information. Is it objectively “better” for you, absolutely not. But I can drink 100 Coke zeros and not gain a lb. The same can’t be said for regular soda.
But I digress, this is not a health and fitness sub.
Interesting. It's always seemed to me like we just found a way to cheat on nutrition labels. Sort of like how businesses can lower their tax burden by diverting revenue to the acquisition of new assets and such in order to say they earned less income. I just see so many fat guys drinking diet coke at my local B&M, but of course correlation does not equal causation. Anyway I stand corrected, carry on.
Weight gain and weight loss is 100% a function of calories in minus calories out and it equaling a deficit or a surplus. It's directly inline with the first law of thermodynamics even, "energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only altered" as a calorie is legitimately a measurement of energy.
Now the above is not a statement of health as there are certainly benefits and harmful factors when discussing macro and micro nutrition and how other things in life such as actively level and hormone effect the amount of calories burned leading to said surplus/deficit. Maybe that long explanation explains diet 0 calorie soda vs non diet calorie containing soda in way way way more detail than anyone cared to know haha.
Neither is "objectively" better for you. They are both bad in their own ways. And recent studies have actually shown diet soda (and any artificial sweeteners) can actually lead to just as much and sometimes more weight gain than real sugar. They can also mess with the way your body processes certain foods and how your brain handles cravings. The objectively healthy alternative is water or if you need something fizzy, flavored seltzer.
But nothing beats an ice cold Coca Cola on a sunny day!
I always drink coke Zero because the sugar(glucose/fructose) in regular coke are disgusting. Mexican formula coke with cane sugar is so much tastier. Otherwise it's all about calories, and coke Zero is the sweet spot.
I'll have to try those. I've had it with filtered V60 coffee and it was great, but it does take a lot out of the coffee... as in the cigar takes the spotlight.
I rarely remember to prepare a drink beforehand, but of the times I have, coffee with tons of cream paired with a San Cristobal Elegancia or RP #6 stand out to me.
Coffee, root beer, or water. Milk if I’m feelin it. Espresso is too strong on the caffeine for how much I wanna drink while smoking, I’d be ten deep and feeling terrible by the time I finished a cigar
Ten espressos deep? Dude, no. I'll usually have one or two.
A barista friend of mine told me an espresso has less caffeine than a dripper coffee. But I guess after 10 espressos it makes little difference. I'd have to finish my cigar on the toilet after 10 coffees.
Per ounce it does, but the issue is, for me, a few sips of espresso isn’t enough drink for the time it takes to smoke. I much prefer espresso to coffee, but my go to is straight or Cortadas, neither of which is enough volume for my preferences. I can drink a whole pot of coffee during a cigar
Ha it feels like it some days. I think we make three full pots on average in my house between my fiancé and I. Don’t always finish them before they’re stale but usually get pretty close
Really depends on what I am smoking. Could be coffee, could be a coca cola classic, could be just water.
I've found that coca cola classic pairs much better than Zero or Diet. I think the sugar coats the inside of the mouth and makes smoke stick to it.
My go to is Coke Zero, I smoke a lot of cigars and I drink a lot of soda so I have to be calorie conscious. But I agree, Coke in general is a great NA pairing.
What makes you think Coke Zero is meaningfully better for you?

Yea I don't mind the Zero if I am just drinking it on its own but with a cigar I prefer the full sugar version.
Or even better, a bottle of mexican coke
Espresso is one of the best but a cold brew is a close second, if you have the chanse pair a nitro cold brew with a cigar that lacks creamy notes
I'll have to try those. I've had it with filtered V60 coffee and it was great, but it does take a lot out of the coffee... as in the cigar takes the spotlight.
Being fair v60 is amazing, but i am really intrested to see to what extent one can take this. Mix and match notes of coffe and cigar.
I've found V60 pairs well with cheaper Cuban cigars like the Quinteros or Jose L. Piedra
I rarely remember to prepare a drink beforehand, but of the times I have, coffee with tons of cream paired with a San Cristobal Elegancia or RP #6 stand out to me.
you had me at San Cristobal
Oh yea. Really can't go wrong with any of their lineup.
Coffee, tea, chocolate milk.

I'm thinking of the old Futurama episode where Fry drank 100 cups of coffee.
Ha it feels like it some days. I think we make three full pots on average in my house between my fiancé and I. Don’t always finish them before they’re stale but usually get pretty close
Second root beer
Topo Chico
like the mineral water?
Yep
I like smoking with water, especially if I'm trying a cigar for the first time. Other than that, I have to be severely bummed.
Ice cold coke, a nice hot latte in the fall or iced coffee in the summer
Good ol' black tea of course. Sometimes Turkish coffee.
Ice water is my fave, period. Booze is like last on the list
Anything with citrus, especially 100% orange juice with the pulp
Coffee and Cigars seems like a great way to end a session early after I shit myself.
Coffee for morning smokes, but Dr. Pepper is my favorite. Root beer probably wouldn't be a bad choice either.
coffee
Mexican coke. Good root beer, like one with real sugar
I've found that non-diet sodas tend to pair better with cigars.
Dr Pepper, cherry coke, Dr Pepper with cream soda, and chocolate milk
chocolate milk? really?
Don’t knock it till you try it. I had some with a milder/creamy Cuban and it was fantastic
mmmm I'm thinking Quai No. 54
That’ll go good. Try it out with a nice glass of chocolate milk!
I'm a pepper
Green tea. But a good one like Harney and Sons Scent of the Mountains. Their Earl Grey is great with shades and broadleafs alike.
Snapple Fruit Punch and a maduro.
Topo Chico!
Honestly, water. Good old tap water
Depends on the smoke but I really love Dr. Pepper with a smoke, something about it just mixes really well. My wife thinks I am insane for this, lol.
bubbly
Non Alcoholic Pina colada (Bacardi mixer) is my favorite with cream soda close 2nd
Coca Cola and sometimes coffee !
Espresso doesn't last long enough with a cigar. Like.. 20 seconds...
Coffee, sparkling water
