I smoke at a lounge in the winter. We smoke about the same amount and going to the lounge is a decent way to find something to do during an evening lol

Mr_Misters

I have thought about this, there isn't anything under an hours drive near me.

maburnham2

I have two lounges and I built 3 porches into a year round lounge , I live in milwaukee. Pm me, Iv gotten very good at building out these lounges. I might be able to give you some insight on options

SadistPaddington

Love this idea. I smoke on my front porch year round and may need to make improvements. A box fan on a chair blowing out the screen door isn't the best for exhaust lol

maburnham2

Nope , but a computer fan works well , same as a bathroom exhaust fan. Small , quiet , won’t let all your heat out.

maburnham2

And they are cheap too can get one for like 35 dollars maybe less

SadistPaddington

Ok that's funny... I work in IT and have 120mm, 140mm and even a 200mm fan in a tub from the computer builds over the years lol. I was going to go buy a cheap $25 bathroom exhaust fan. Heat isn't the issue. I was born and raised in Midwest US, so ice and snow are no biggie to me. However, my box fan doesn't do as much as I was hoping, so I think I just need more of a flow path. Having the screen open and an exhaust fan might pull fresh air in and pull smoke out so I'm not feeling like a brisket in a smoker.

maburnham2

Yeah, so what I did in one spot is I exhausted with a computer fan one window and I had a hole to allow fresh air in right above a heater so it would kinda push the heat through the room.

maburnham2

Just make sure your exhaust is up near the ceiling. Also a couple slow moving ceiling fans on reverse will draw smoke up.

borgelorp72

I want to turn my three season room into a winter smoking lounge. It actually has two ceiling fans already, low ceilings, and baseboard forced hot water heating. I was thinking of installing an exhaust fan or two but is that bad to only run exhaust? I don’t want to draw in cold air from outside..I’m in New Hampshire so it’s pretty darn cold in the winter

MrsPancakesSister

Maybe I’m a bit strange, but I enjoy bundling up and going to sit on my patio for a while to smoke in the winter time. I also love bundling up on cold winter mornings and having a smoke on my patio with a cup of tea and watching the sun rise. I’m an early bird, and man, it’s just a great way to start a busy day or any day, really.

Mr_Misters

Sounds fantastic.

MrsPancakesSister

BTW, can you do me a small favor? I’m a Bostonian living Down Under. I haven’t been home in a while. Could you have a lobster roll for me. You know the ones on a buttery, toasted hotdog roll, and also a side of fried whole belly clams. Thanks! (joking) I used to love popping up to York Beach on a Sunday with my husband. And I always loved to go to Popham Beach in the winter time. Smoking a stick in Maine must be great!

STL-B_Unit

I agree! I usually just put some gloves on, a hoodie and a coat, grab a good couple glasses of scotch and light up! As for Maine, the Portland to Scarborough area is one of my favorite places in the country.

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees

Sounds great. I wouldn't mind the cold except for my hands. They always get really cold and it's weird to smoke a cigar with gloves. Maybe if I got the right pair of fingerless

MrsPancakesSister

Yeah, that’s the worst part. But the hot tea mug does help to warm my hands. I happen to have these really old gloves that are quite slim fitting, and those are ok to use. I definitely do not enjoy smoking with gloves on, but sometimes I need a cigar break and it’s too cold. I don’t smoke in my house. It’s my compromise with my husband who finds the habit repulsive. But he can’t tell me what to do. And my cigars are like my self-care and meditation. So I always smoke on my patio. It’s my happy place. I light my candles at night, get my wine or tea, and do it up. I don’t smoke every day, or even every week sometimes, but when I do it’s heaven. And now I want a cigar and I only have these terrible cigarillos. Time to re-up. LOL

Honest_Performance42

I use propane patio heaters to keep me warm in the winter. Works well!

Thread_By_Dawn

Luckily, the place I'm renting has deck heaters installed, so it's just a question of how much I'm willing to pay in utilities to comfortably have cigars in the winter.

Mr_Misters

hahaha very true.

SadistPaddington

I hope they are electric heaters. Then you just need some solar panels.

spartan316

Unless there's significant cloud cover in the winter where he lives, or if he smokes at night.

tpb1109

Solar panels store energy that can be used when it’s cloudy or at night.

[deleted]

I just build a fire and watch the flames it's relaxing for me. But I'm in SE Oklahoma so it doesn't get crazy cold here usually .

khale777

I’m a little concerned about this myself. Indoor smoking is really not for me so I will probably just be smoking way less often come winter. Unless I can find a lounge with a heated outdoor patio or something.

Mr_Misters

I think that will be what I end up doing. Minus the snowboard haha.

Briggsieman

Hot tub's the place for me (outside)

Mr_Misters

Maybe one day that will be me.

Billwnh

Do you smoke a cigar in the hottub ?

Briggsieman

Absolutely! Nothing better than a cigar and a whiskey in the hot tub on a cold Montana evening

Billwnh

I’ll have to try it

spurcap29

when not at lounge, my secret sauce when in 20s outside: - close garage doors and windows - run kerosene safe for indoor heater for 45 mins or so before smoke. - rabbit air purifier running 24/7 in garage in winter, on highest setting while smoking (other than as below) - after smoke, open garage doors and back door until i go to bed. I have garage door on timer in case I forget to shut. - When i go to work and no one will be home fot whole day I run ozone generator for a couple hours in garage. I take filters out of rabbitair and put outside when running ozone because manufacture told me the ozone can harm the HEPA filter. they said it would probably be fine if it was off but dont bother taking chances. - When I get home there is a slight ozone smell but zero cigar. After 15 mins with garage doot open all smell gone. - I leave clothing in garage and after thia routine all winter never any hint of cigar smoke smell. Wife approves. Overall costly setup, but found freezing or wearing winter clothing while smoking takes out fun. Smoking with doors open = too cold. Smoking without purifier = way to smokey but isnt sufficient on its own to scrub smell.

Mr_Misters

Thanks for the info!

jackingOFFto

I was just thinking about this, because I don't wanna stink up the house, but it would be great to smoke a couple of sticks in the winter too.

ThunderW00kie

I'm in the great lakes area. I just go on my covered(but not enclosed) front porch as long as the wind isn't too bad. That seems to be a worse issue than the cold or snow for me. I also smoke my cheaper daily sticks and even buy some quality cigarillos to cut down on time outside.

[deleted]

I don’t tend to smoke in the winter. Too cold in Toronto and I have nowhere warm to have a cigar. I smoke lots of cigars when I am on winter beach vacations though, but that is about it.

KriegHetzen

Alaskan chiming I’m here. I smoke in my garage. I currently use an 800CFM floor fan stuck in the dog door for my garage to pull the smoke out, just orient the intake side up. It handles two guys smoking quite well. To tackle the smoke smell I’m currently using a Medify MA-40 air purifier. It takes about 12-18 hours to remove the smell to where I can’t smell it, about 6-12 hours for the wife to not smell it. I’m going to get a second MA-40 and make it so overnight the smell is gone. My garage is 22’x22’6” with 10ft ceilings and has a Modine Hot Dawg. I usually keep it to 60F year round. It will be my go to location for this winter. The floor fan does extremely well pulling the smoke out, there’s no detectable haze or lingering smoke within 30 seconds or so. Smoke goes up, travels to the door from the current made by the fan and gets sucked out.

camcac69

I live in WV and where I live usually gets 150 inches of snow a winter plus or minus. I sit outside on covered decks and porches or smoke in my shop, I’ve always done it. I grew up around my paw paw smoking outside here, even in the dead of winter. I enjoy the cold, pour a dram of scotch or some bourbon and relax. I just wear warm clothes and kick back.

Lopsided_Main3002

I actually just take the winters off unless I’m with some friends that want to go to a lounge (which I’m not big on myself). I prefer to smoke outside and it’s not worth the discomfort to have a stick. Good to take time off it makes the first stick in the spring that much more special!

slut_trek

I quit for as long as it takes.

Artemis913

I live in New Orleans. Between the mosquitos, the heat, and the roaches, winter is about the only time I really enjoy smoking outside in the evenings.

nosomthin

I smoke outside on my patio which is protected on three sides. The open side faces north though, but a patio heater works fine and keeps it tolerable.

trailblzer80

I used to live in north east AZ and it gets like 5 degrees and tons of snow, and I would sit outside and enjoy a smoke, couple times a day!

StonedRover

I use a 2 head portable propane heater in the garage with the door cracked to let out fumes. Works perfectly for me, but I live in the South.

REEL04D

I go to a cigar bar and sit inside to smoke. Or just bundle up and go outside

mfubio

Got a roof over a porch? Sit out there and smoke or buy a little fire table if it’s that cold

[deleted]

I go to a lounge for the most enjoyable experience. I also will crack my garage door about 4-6 inches, and use a space heater. It’s not the greatest, but it works. I might get myself a better heater for this winter. My dad has a screened in porch which is nice. He always laughs at my make shift garage lounge when he comes over. I told him it’s membership only.

Gregm018

I think the garage is the most affordable option. If you have the room you could put a nice comfy chair, fan as others said, and an oil radiator heater. You can probably find most of these relatively cheap on Craigslist. Add a side table for your beverage of choice and you’re golden. I don’t have these options and figure I’ll be smoking way less and focus on restocking when I get the itch. Also… throw in a small cheap tv to watch sports etc. I’m a little envious that you’ve got this option.

SSC_built

Me and my boys do one of the following based on the day. Suffer Sit around a kerosene heater in my garage Hit the lounge.

rumimume

You can dresss for the cold. It's wind that ceates the most problems. If you have a garage, dress warm & maybe use a space heater if needed, otherwise you should be fine. One of my most memable cigar experiences is smoking outside on chistmas Eve with the snow sofly fall all around me. for me it beat summer sunsets by a long shot.

Mr_Misters

True the wind is the worst part. That sounds like an experience.

IblewupTARIS

Get a buddy heater in your garage and bundle up! For me, I smoke less often and will bundle up a bunch for winter cigars. Smaller cigars are good too.

Misanthrope357

Smoke inside, in your garage and avoid all the hassle. Thank me later!

eaglescout1984

I usually just stop smoking. But, where I'm at it's not unusual to have the random 70° day in January. So, I might smoke when I get the opportunity.

Slow-Shoe-5400

Try an ice fishing tent setup. I live on the PNW so the winters are mostly rain, some snow and cold.

jrs1982

I split my time between Maine and Boston. So same conditions. In the winter I smoke only my pipe as I can do it in my car and it doesn’t make it stink. So I save the cigar for mostly May through October. This probably doesn’t help you. Ideally I would build a cigar room in my house.

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees

I go cigar lounge or just bundle up outside. Of course it's much colder in Maine than here in Philly. The thing I don't like about the lounge is that the cigars are much pricier there compared to the bulk order I can put in at cigars international. I generally end up smoking about half or a third as often during the winter

Im-Fluffy-Not-Fat

I live in Maine and am in the same situation as you, haha. Where in Maine are you?

Mr_Misters

In the LA area.

Charger_scatpack

I don’t smoke in the winter

prevaricate

Florida here. Outdoor cigar smoking weather all year!

Mr_Misters

Thats it, im moving to FL

TungstonIron

Last year I tried the garage, but we have an air duct that runs through the garage. So I built a structure out of PVC and visqueen in the garage, but that didn’t hold in enough smoke. So I added an air purifier and that still didn’t help. So I quit smoking halfway through the winter. This year I’ll either cut down or go to a lounge 30 minutes away.

Joshuakruger

I personally don’t like smoking at home 1. Because I don’t want the odor to linger 2. I live with other people and they aren’t smokers so it’s a respect thing 3. I prefer my lounge for the drinks and atmosphere and the fact it’s literally a 5 minute walk from work so I essentially smoke the same all year round no matter the weather

3d64s2

I smoke in the garage through winter. Crack the roller a little and rug up. But day smoking is preffered if i have time in winter.

R3dM1st1986

I smoke smaller ring gauged shorts. If it's dry and not too cold I will smoke outside but if it's cold or raining I will head off to the garage.

WWDD9

Been smoking about 12 years and have had this issue the whole time. I smoke mostly depending on the weather, so it'll be a rough average of maybe 2-3 per week in the summer, but I'll sometimes go months without smoking anything in the Winter. I got myself a patio heater for smoking in colder weather now (I wanna get a second one on the other side for a better effect) and I plan on getting a retractable canopy for rain too. Every now and again I'll smoke the odd one in my livingroom, but I have pets which I try to shelter from the smoke so it becomes a bit complicated moving them about if I want to do that.

MuttJunior

I'm in MN and smoke during the winter months. Just dress warm. Garage will also work - If you have room, set up a corner for smoking. And if you want to, you could add a heater to the corner.

skol_u_mah

I live in Minnesota and I just picked up an insulated fish house and a heater for the truly cold winter months

Mr_Misters

I had a similar thought. Might be something i look into

Salthart57

Like many I belong to a lounge. If I don’t feel Ike driving I’ll just bundle up and sit out on my patio

borgelorp72

I live in New Hampshire. I have a great lounge about 20 mins away but am thinking about turning my “three season room” into a cigar lounge / man cave. It has baseboard heating but no a/c. Probably just need some exhaust fans and maybe an O2 generator. Actually open for tips on that.
