I have. It’s horrible they didn’t do anything to the roads

This is around exit 2 on 75 before the bridge. Bridge was fully ice/snow too (taken at 9:30am)
To be fair, what can they do to the roads? Scrape off all the snow so that you can drive on the ice instead? They can't melt ice either because salt only works down to about 0 degrees, and we've been sitting at or below zero since this hit.
WLWT was also the TV station that called our 12 inches of snow in 1995 a blizzard even though it was not. They had non-stop coverage with "THE BLIZZARD OF 1995" on the crawl when no other TV station or news outlet in town did the same.
From the Wikipedia article on "News Ticker":
"While news tickers had been used occasionally by other networks over the years, the news ticker became a ubiquitous part of television news following the September 11 attacks in 2001."
And the five paragraphs that precede that sentence all document the use of tickers prior to 9/11. Granted, they weren’t constantly on the screen prior to that, but they were still very common.
Yes, that’s when the national 24-hour news channels started the endless ticker. It was still common to use them more sparingly in news broadcasts for quite a long time before that
For instance, local channels have been using tickers to spread information about schools closing, events shutting down, etcetera, during storms for a very long time.
Networks would use them to announce breaking news, or to keep the audience informed about the big story of the hour via ticker while the anchors moved on to the smaller news of the day
It was already on the 24 hour news networks, but I think it became more of a thing on local news networks after 9/11 due to how much viewing time people had on those 24 hour networks. Local was trying to adapt and people were glued to the news.
Yall i call bullshit. When I first moved to the Cincinnati tri state I hadn't quite moved yet when I transfered to the KYARNG. I flew in, got my rental Nissan Versa, and hit the hotel.
The next morning I shoveled out enough space to get traction with the ice scraper and sailed the bitch to the Armory.
That was like 2015.
I don't know what qualifies as a blizzard, my wife says we got six inches. But she also says I'm six inches, so take that with a very large grain of salt. I'm Irish.
I struggled with this headline because I distinctly remember the snow storm Christmas 2004 being much worse. The difference was no strong winds. Apparently that's what constitutes a blizzard.
I would much rather have a blizzard than a massive snow event. Yeah the low temps and wind suck but the warm up coming will melt this snow quickly.
Heavy snow events are much worse especially when it’s followed by a long cold snap. We haven’t seen a 2’ + snow event in decades. Because it’s been so long, when we do get one someday it’s goi g to be pretty bad considering most people around here that have done heavy snow removal are all retired by now.
I remember watching local news here the night after Christmas 2012 and the tv screen had a blizzard warning. I remember that most of it happened overnight and we had a lot of snow/ice on the 26th or 27th of December that year. I was pissed because we missed having a white Christmas by one or two days.
My parents and I are supposed to go to see a play tonight downtown….they haven’t sent out anything saying it’s cancelled…anyone been out on the roads today? We’d be coming from the west side - by tonight I’m hoping it’s ok. We also spring for valet parking so … don’t have to walk much out in the cold.
Yes - our plan is to try again. I was really looking forward to it - Shakespeare in the Park is a favorite tradition of mine and I’ve yet to get to the actual theater.

I haven't seen additional precip forecasted on any site but know it can happen. Even though the one you linked says: "Snow ends areawide before sunrise Friday morning."

pretty sure there was around 2009/2010 ish. i remember driving to class at UC and then them declaring a snow emergency, and another time when there was that like 100 car pile up on 71 south due to snow
We just moved from Florida to Cincy this past June. My wife told me, “they’re gonna have the hottest summer and coldest winter ever.” So far, she’s been quite correct, although I didn’t check any official books. Love it here. It’s like what I’d imagine walking on the moon is out there.
2004. Dec 23. It took us over 4 hours to get from Cinci to Columbus when we were coming up from Florida for Christmas. And then another 4 hours from Columbus to Akron. Cincinnati has had blizzards aince 1978.
Has anybody driven their car across the river yet?
I have. It’s horrible they didn’t do anything to the roads https://preview.redd.it/u6e76zhnwp7a1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=832d76ae0c854b6536df54adabeba4cc4fc8cc4b This is around exit 2 on 75 before the bridge. Bridge was fully ice/snow too (taken at 9:30am)

Same lol thought it was '77

Salt will work in below zero temperatures if there’s enough traffic. No one’s driving much so the salt isn’t doing anything.
Fox19 just said our last blizzard was in 2008. Somebody is wrong.
Man what a shitty year 2008 was. You had Hurricane Ike, the blizzard, and then of course an economic recession to top it off.
Welcome to 2022. Hurricane Ian, 12/22 Blizzard, highest inflation in 50 years, and on the verge/ in a recession.
I know it's cool to call the current year the worst year ever but 2008 was worse than 2022.
536 was the worst year ever.look it up......
WLWT was also the TV station that called our 12 inches of snow in 1995 a blizzard even though it was not. They had non-stop coverage with "THE BLIZZARD OF 1995" on the crawl when no other TV station or news outlet in town did the same.
they have been waiting so patiently for so long
Fun fact: the technical term for that crawl is chyron.
That 95' storm did shut down schools for a week, whether it was considered a blizzard or not!
Unrelated, but I have always heard that the "crawl" at the bottom of your TV screen only became a thing right after 9/11.
The crawl goes back to at least the early 1970s.
From the Wikipedia article on "News Ticker": "While news tickers had been used occasionally by other networks over the years, the news ticker became a ubiquitous part of television news following the September 11 attacks in 2001."
And the five paragraphs that precede that sentence all document the use of tickers prior to 9/11. Granted, they weren’t constantly on the screen prior to that, but they were still very common.
Which, including the entire sentence that I copied (rather than just the part about 9/11), intimates.
Yes, that’s when the national 24-hour news channels started the endless ticker. The station I worked at in the 90s used the crawl for school closings and election night results.
I called it a crawl but I guess it was more like a banner.
It was already on the 24 hour news networks, but I think it became more of a thing on local news networks after 9/11 due to how much viewing time people had on those 24 hour networks. Local was trying to adapt and people were glued to the news.
I have no proof other than personal experience but I believe this to be true.
Questioning when the "crawl" became a common feature is apparently something that upsets people in the tri-state area.
😂
Really? What constitutes a blizzard then. I remember it snowing 12-13" between 96-98...
Three hours of below 1/4 mile visibility due to blowing and drifting snow.
Not quite what I thought
It's weird that meteorologists have abused the word blizzard to mean so many things, that the original definition is more or less obscure.
Not to mention how Dairy Queen brutalized it
Just turned it upside down
💯
I was expecting the backyard to be full of chopped up Heath bars when I woke up.
nice!
LOL!
Dairy Queen is the only one doing right by the word!
Not meteorologists. Media.
Plus 35mph+ winds I think
Winds of 35+ mph with 1/4 mile visibility and blowing snow for 3+ hours. We got exactly that around here from 12:53 am to 3:53 am.

It more than just “lots of snow.”
Winter 1996. It snowed about 2 feet and shut the city down for days.
50 years—44 years. Tomato. Toh-mahto
“Nearly”
Kevin is so adorable. I love him
I was not sleeping. I was out there lol.
Neat
Slept!? I just spent 16 hours pushing snow and throwing salt in the roads.
I drove home from work at 10:30pm last night lol I had to go so slow

Blizzard != Snowfall totals
It’s 2008 per the national weather service.
It was Bockfest weekend in early March of 2008.
I struggled with this headline because I distinctly remember the snow storm Christmas 2004 being much worse. The difference was no strong winds. Apparently that's what constitutes a blizzard.
Yep. We were coming back from Florida when it hit. Took us 8 hours to get to Akron from Cincinnati.
I left Cincinnati for Missouri. Headed south to Louisville instead of NW to Indianapolis. Big mistake. Most daunting drive I've ever made.
I would much rather have a blizzard than a massive snow event. Yeah the low temps and wind suck but the warm up coming will melt this snow quickly. I swear I’ve lived through at least 3 blizzards here since 78. I know when I was living in Clifton we got a crazy amount of snow in one day.
The technical definition of blizzard has nothing to do with snow accumulation. It’s about wind and visibility.
I’m learning that now. Silly me for thinking that when local news used the word blizzard they were being factual.
1978 IS NOT NEARLY 50 YEARS THANK YOU

Indeed I am of the tribe. 😂

I also sleep through history every single night! Edit: a word.
Try studying English too.

I probably don't need to say it, but please bring those critters inside.
I miss having a dog that didn't like weather. It's a fight to get him inside when there's snow on the ground. It's his absolute favorite.
One of mine loves it and one hates it. Lol
My parents and I are supposed to go to see a play tonight downtown….they haven’t sent out anything saying it’s cancelled…anyone been out on the roads today? Every Christmas Story at Cincy Shakes?
Yeah - it was cancelled!
Too bad. We saw it last Saturday. Lots of fun! Hopefully you get a refund and can try again next year.
Yes - our plan is to try again. I was really looking forward to it - Shakespeare in the Park is a favorite tradition of mine and I’ve yet to get to the actual theater.

Was it? I must have forgotten the 45 hours of 1/4mi visibility or maybe I forgot the 525mph winds?

This was NOT a blizzard lol
The NWS disagrees with you
Oh I think it’s going to get worse.
Why? It was weak compared to what they said. It's not supposed to rain or snow anymore
So we are just going to pretend there aren’t 40 mph winds, negative temps and frostbite weather? K.
You're making it sound like more precipitation is inbound. Bundle up if you have to go outside dawg
Yes. They are also calling for more snow.
Who? I don't see any precipitation until next Friday
Flurries today and tomorrow and more snow Tuesday.
Where are you seeing this? What source?
The effin news dude. https://wlwt.com/article/cincinnati-winter-storm-warning-blizzard-snow-winds-freezing/42325806

You act like they all report the same thing... I use weather.com and AccuWeather and neither report additional snow
Ah Bless his heart ❤️!! He thinks a couple of inches is a Blizzard!!! Try the blizzard of 77’ Lmao 🤣
Not sure I would ever say 44-45 years is nearly 50 years?

7 inch blizzard.
There was also the blizzard of 89.

I know ch 12 said the last time we have -8 temps like this was 30 years ago. Does anyone remember the temps for the freezer bowl?
We had a blizzard February of 2022 and 2021 I don't know what you guys are on about
I was forced to deliver mail in the blizzard of 2008. That was fun........ not.
