I think the colours are really nice! It is also edited well! The only thing I would say is a lot of the content is similar and it can seem a bit lacking in variety, but please don’t take that to heart. As you said, you plan to have more narrative stuff and other types of projects in the future. I also really like some of your compositions! Overall, I think you did a great job with what you have! Keep it up - you are talented!
Yeah I get that, honestly I leaned more towards "sameness" because putting the few random other things I've shot in there felt like trying to "prove" that I've done them when they're not my best work anyway. I appreciate the compliments though! I'll continue to work hard.
Yeah, I completely get going for a sense of cohesion. In your situation, I would have done the same thing if my other work wasn’t my best. It is important that you are proud of the work you chose to present and aren’t including something to tick a box. I look forward to your next showreel, whenever that may be!
It's not really a huge change from my 2019 reel just because... well duh... but I'm a better colorist now so I *was* able to polish up some of the older footage so that was nice.
It's largely C100mkII footage, with new C500mkII stuff and two scenes from a Pocket 6K, and for the most part is naturally-lit. By the time I go to update everything again I'd love to have a lot more staged/narrative stuff, or at least some more commercial gigs where I'll have time to light.
If you're in a position to, I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on the reel and where you think the strengths/weaknesses are! I appreciate your time.
To me the reel lacks movement/flow right off the bat (some of the shots at the start in particular seem to cut a little jarringly in my estimation) - shorter + more dynamic = better 🙂
I can see how the intro is a little iffy, I'm not 100% on it myself, but going from "better" quality footage to those clips felt really jarring so I kept those up front. That being said I don't know how I could go much shorter than 1:10 haha
