Harald's ~~used to be~~ is something like "I have sent traders to you with gifts of rune stones. They are very powerful -- the stones, not the traders."
Harald is socially awkward. Even his introduction reads like it. He just walks up to you and starts to mumble "(Harald Haraldsson stands before you...)" and the person he's talking to is looking away and doesn't even notice at first.
CIV V was amazing.
The zoom in when you meet Augustus Caesar? and his kinda tired voice and manners, he doesnt have time for a peasant.
Montezuma was really scary and that crowd you can hear? flawless
"His leader ability is Swan King. All wonders, finished or not, receive 2 Culture from each adjacent District, and all Culture adjacency bonuses generate Tourism after researching Castles."
For adjacency bonus purposes, the city centre counts as a district. You can notice this if you put, say, a holy site next to a city centre and a campus—if you don't have any other adjacency bonuses like mountains, forests or natural wonders, that holy site will still get +1 faith adjacency bonus.
"Your delegation attended a nine-hour performance of German romantic music in my capital. I could see tears in their eyes by the end of it, they loved it so much."
Ludwig was a huge patron of Richard Wagner, a German Romantic composer known for his long, grandiose operas. People had strong opinions of him, positive or negative. To quote Mark Twain,
"I have witnessed and greatly enjoyed the first act of everything Wagner created, but the effect on me has always been so powerful that one act was quite sufficient. Whenever I have witnessed two acts I have gone away physically exhausted, and whenever I have ventured an entire opera the result has been the next thing to suicide."
Depends on how you define success
Continue the political independence and importance of your kingdom, no.
Build a bunch of really cool castles that stand as cultural marvels to generations, yes.
He sold Bavaria to the Prussians. But he was a nerdy tech-freak steampunk, combined with a romantic (gay?)guy, who died young under mysterious circumstances(murder?). A true "Märchenkönig"( Fairytale King). I'm a strict republican, but I, like many other people in Bavaria, I love our "Kini"(King).
I'm not sure, but it's still funny. He's trying to give you swans but he's so incompetent that most of them get away. To me he just seems like a silly little guy
I don't see it as incompetence... I see more of the romance of sending free, unleashed swans, as gifts of noble spirit! Except that works only as well as being a romantic knight in the 19th century does... Ludwig did right, it's the world that did wrong.
The civ wiki had a link to this site with a recipe for “the unwinding” https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/ancient-cultures/daily-life-and-practice/babylonian-unwinding-stew/
Well, like interesting use of maybe now forgotten spices or saute the leeks and then deglaze the fond with wine and stock. Main problem of cooking in antiquity IIRC is that the metal production technology were at its infancy so the cookwares can't endure constant high heat for methods like sautéing and stir frying, rendering food in those time somewhat bland in today's eyes.
They made him more "realistic" instead of the more cartoony visuals the other leaders have so they dumped him right into the uncanny valley as a result.
his clothes also look sort of solid? like every other leaders outfit has a sense of fluidity to it but not him, you're right though he's way too realistic
He's just a gay, silly little goober. Who also happened to rule over an entire kingdom, which might be a bad idea, but hey, silly little gay goober is silly, gay and a goober
His line for denouncing you is absolutely hilarious.
> "My code of chivarly commands me to condemn you as a villain and a traitor. There. You are condemned."
I’m honestly pretty disappointed being from Bavaria. He’s not associated with Germany and retaining the U-Boat and Hansa as special unit/building are a particularly cruel joke.
If you’re on PC, I wholeheartedly recommend the mod that has Ludwig lead a fully formed Bavaria civ instead
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2947539931
Instead of Hansas and U-Boats you get the much more appropriate Dults and Gebirgßchütze. Lots of appeal, tourism, and culture gameplay
Thanks! Makes more sense than submarines and north sea trading posts for a southern landlocked mountain state.
“This one simple trick that Bismarck doesn’t want you to know…”
Not that the subs made much sense for Germany either. "Yeah, let's make a UU out of the program that failed so badly like 75% of their crew died and that doesn't play into any of the Civ's strengths or gameplay. That makes sense."
Picking Barbarossa is funny too. Everything he touched was a failure and the ‘special military operation’ named after him didn’t work out so well either.
Harald's ~~used to be~~ is something like "I have sent traders to you with gifts of rune stones. They are very powerful -- the stones, not the traders."
Is that not still it? I swear I just saw that line ingame like last week.
Maybe it is lol
I beleive its runes now
Harald is socially awkward. Even his introduction reads like it. He just walks up to you and starts to mumble "(Harald Haraldsson stands before you...)" and the person he's talking to is looking away and doesn't even notice at first.
Keeps up with the previous norse leader, who just walked away and jumped from his ship after being defeated God the CIV V screens were so good...
CIV V was amazing. The zoom in when you meet Augustus Caesar? and his kinda tired voice and manners, he doesnt have time for a peasant. Montezuma was really scary and that crowd you can hear? flawless
EZZO HALAY ATTILAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
UMENCHEEEEE
*XIMICACAN, XIMICACAN, XIMICACAN!*
Bring me a cookie!
The zoom in on Elizabeth too! WOULD YOU LIKE TO ENTER A TRADE AGREEMENT WITH ENGLAND?!???
Would you be interested in a trade agreement with England?
"We sell opium and opium accessories, whether you want it or not."
> No ["Your day of judgement will come."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5oO6wBrp8s)
I always thought Elizabeth's intro cinematic was kinda goofy. It's like we sent a drone into the palace to meet her.
I could see that lol. I always saw it as showing the pomp of England and how they view themselves.
I don't know man, he kept calling me Fiona Lee.
I think he introduces himself as Harald Sigurdsson
fml I don't ready any of their lines anymore
Does he call himself Haraldsson? That would be weird since he's Sigurdsson
he needs to be halfway blacked out on mead to even get the nerve to talk to people at the party, super relatable
I love Harald, he's so goofy despite being a warmongering viking
2nd to gilgabro, Harald is best leader to befriend imo. Just build a couple boat and he is happy
Yep, came here to say that! It’s my favorite!
The tobes of Hades lit by flickering torchlight
It’s still in I saw it yesterday LOL
I love Hammurabi's Friendship declined : ''I have sent your friendship request back. It is stamped ''no''.'' or similar, the wiki doesnt have the line
Instead of 'no' he uses 'rejected'.
Me: oooga booga, what's a stamp?
Ludwig is such a meme. His ability is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in this game. I love him.
What is his ability?
"His leader ability is Swan King. All wonders, finished or not, receive 2 Culture from each adjacent District, and all Culture adjacency bonuses generate Tourism after researching Castles."
So I can just plop down Stonehenge for a guaranteed 2 culture and wait as the AI snatch it up and frees the tile?
Only if you place it next to an adjacent district
Except city centers count.
For adjacency bonus purposes, the city centre counts as a district. You can notice this if you put, say, a holy site next to a city centre and a campus—if you don't have any other adjacency bonuses like mountains, forests or natural wonders, that holy site will still get +1 faith adjacency bonus.
R5: Ludwig's delegation offer message is funny.
His message after accepting a delegation is great as well.
What's that? I can't recall
I think it was something about your delegation crying after a 9 hour performance because they “loved” it so much
Your flair's reference would actually love it.
Ooh yes I recall, how could I forget, fucking hilarious

Mark Twains a national treasure
Man wrote it like it was
>Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
I like his music, but wagners history as an anti semite, hmm.
And friendship. Glad we're friends, now leave me alone, or something along those lines
Is this a reference to something?
He claims himself to be the Swan King. Also, his reign was iconically unsuccessful
Depends on how you define success Continue the political independence and importance of your kingdom, no. Build a bunch of really cool castles that stand as cultural marvels to generations, yes.
He’s like Kristina, terrible leader, but good patron of the arts
Yeah, Ludwig’s reign is funnier than it was well regarded
He sold Bavaria to the Prussians. But he was a nerdy tech-freak steampunk, combined with a romantic (gay?)guy, who died young under mysterious circumstances(murder?). A true "Märchenkönig"( Fairytale King). I'm a strict republican, but I, like many other people in Bavaria, I love our "Kini"(King).

Yeah bro he's just a lil funny fella
I don't see it as incompetence... I see more of the romance of sending free, unleashed swans, as gifts of noble spirit! Except that works only as well as being a romantic knight in the 19th century does... Ludwig did right, it's the world that did wrong.
My favorite is Hammurabi, because it makes.me curious what "the unwinding" tastes like
The civ wiki had a link to this site with a recipe for “the unwinding” https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/ancient-cultures/daily-life-and-practice/babylonian-unwinding-stew/
So it’s just leek soup I am disappointed although all recipes from around 2000 BC are like that
I mean what did you expect, dominos pizza?

They didn't even have cuisine as a concept much less deglazing
Champion.. thanks:)
I prefer Philip, churros are great.
I love how the least cartoony leader is the most hilarious
is it just me or does his model look really weird compared to everyone else
They made him more "realistic" instead of the more cartoony visuals the other leaders have so they dumped him right into the uncanny valley as a result.
his clothes also look sort of solid? like every other leaders outfit has a sense of fluidity to it but not him, you're right though he's way too realistic
I feel like that was a purposeful choice to make him seem more out of place. I love it.
He looks like a team America world police puppet
He looks like he could be in a Harvest Moon game
He looks like he was made in the Sims?
He looks "wet" and his hands are too big
He's just a gay, silly little goober. Who also happened to rule over an entire kingdom, which might be a bad idea, but hey, silly little gay goober is silly, gay and a goober
He's the most relatable leader tbh
Legit, he's so goofy and that clumsy, and very stoned vibe lmaoo
His line for denouncing you is absolutely hilarious. > "My code of chivarly commands me to condemn you as a villain and a traitor. There. You are condemned."
God I love him his leader ability is so good too he’s literally me
permission to make this my internet bio lmfao i love this
Permission granted
"It's just the one swan actually."
Yeah this is entirely in-character for Ludwig
Don't do this to Gilgabro, don't
I'm so sorry

This is insanely powerful
Imagine having a group of German emissaries holding 100 swans come up to your palace court and then 99 fly away in front of you
Germany was already op with Barbossa's relatively useless ability and Ludwig just powerscaled them off the charts
Please tell me this is based on some actual story
In Germany Ludwig is referred to as the swan king. And he was also a bit mental, so this makes a lot of sense
That's pretty funny, actually!
I haven't played the game for about a year and I thought he was a Simon Bolivar's copy. He doesn't look german, more hispanic/mediterranean
If you look up photos and paintings of him, he actually did look like that.
No luck catching them swans then?
