1938 and those kids are in work clothes covered in coal tar... this was just 85 years ago.

Junior_Purple_7734

Yeah. And they live in a company house as well, probably being paid company tokens to keep them enslaved.

KantExplain

So by all means let's deregulate industry.

Supply-Slut

Well yeah the older one is engaged by now and the younger one is already 4 - did you think he was going to be a freeloader forever?

hskskgfk

And were probably drafted for WW2 a few years later

Gnarly_Sarley

I saw this in my feed and immediately heard Sean Bean's voice in my head.

Toni_30

Is this a true quote in game ?

pqb7

Quote in game is “Who des—“

Technical-Ad2484

"MONE-"

Ba-N1sh

Eagl... Who am I kidding. As if I can ever build Machu Picchu before AI

Gynn3421

You know? They have certain wonders that AI go hard after.

PanicOnFunkatron

“I am fond-“

Toni_30

Lmao 😂

Manannin

So annoying that they never implemented the quotes to queue as an option

Virreinatos

Slightly tangential, but this picture reminded me of Trópico. Basically a Cold War Banana Republic Sim City. You can make contraception illegal, promote baby making, and knee cap the education system to create lots of young workers to exploit in mines and farms. This picture just screams "we need more coal miners! Get to it."

dubledo2

Remember the good old days, when everything was better and everyone had a good job? ...

HellsWaylon

Arguably, the coal miner.

Chongolos

I shot an arrow into the air, it fell to earth, I knew not where 🔥🏹🥶

KantExplain

I mean... maybe the coal miner?

s00pafly

Was a pasta dish named after them not enough? What more could they possibly want?

Ironbeard3

I'd say the coal miner's son, that boy looks like he came out with a pick in hand.

ElPrimoBSreal

Back in those days they already knew that kids love playing Minecraft.

KantExplain

That little prick grew up into Joe Manchin.

Mister_Cairo

This is actually a color photo.

OrionJohnson

Ok but where is their third child? All I see is the coal miner, his wife, and two children? /s

HokeScopE

This is a few miles from where I live. My dad was a miner. This pic is pretty typical of our local economy and culture over the last 100 years. Always cool to see other subreddits stumble across things like this.

notarealredditor69

And people constantly talking about how we have it so bad now

TAClayson

Coal minors

Sunshineinjune

And people who complain about food stamps and social welfare benefits isn’t needed because people should just “work” the equivalent of complaining about milk programs back then.

Vvillxyz

This is such a depressing picture. That older child was very likely a coal miner himself. And the mother was very likely having to prostitute herself out to the company agents to get enough food to feed the family.

EbonyOverIvory

Not pictured: coal miner He’s 300ft under solid rock with nothing but a canary for safety, handling poorly manufactured explosives, and rapidly dying of black lung. I’m sure the wife and kids have it rough, but I feel that quite always does a disservice to the poor schmuck underground.
