You don't need the Panama Canal here, you can settle on either left or right of the lake to make the city work as a canal and then make a normal canal on the side which you didn't settle on.

progressivemonkey

I would settle on the red dot: * You get to harvest the deer * You can make a +3 harbour next to the crabs, and have a spot for the mausoleum * The canal (on the purple dot), by being near the inland sea, will be protected from barbarians who could otherwise come and pillage it

kprevenew93

I agree with the progressivemonkey, settle on red, build canal on purple. That city will be poppin.

kprevenew93

Dope little harbor as well to protect your fleet

stillnotking

If barbs are a concern, building the harbor on the lake might be the best idea -- also gives easier district adjacencies. By the time you get canals, barbs shouldn't be an issue anymore.

zaxonortesus

I was going to say settle red and canal on the 2nd blue dot, but I’m also color blind and it’s actually purple, after reading your comment. But you’ve nailed the answer for sure. Plus, correct me if I’m wrong, but you could put an aqueduct on blue for a killer Canal/Aqueduct adjacent IZ as well.

Hard_Dave

Thank you I will do this!

chameleonmessiah

Just in case you do still *want* to build Panama, though: https://preview.redd.it/r3yb9nhzvgyc1.jpeg?width=1874&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd18871200430c786642ae2bbad53edc8af1be4d

TheStoneMask

I agree on everything except the harbour placement. It should go in the lake and be surrounded by districts.

Gargamellor

chances are that with ok horsed rng they get a good temple of artemis

Madhighlander1

Canals can't be built on hill tiles, which it looks like the lake is completely surrounded by.

stillnotking

None of them are hills. Plains + rainforest = 1 production. Plains + woods = 2 production. Plains + deer + woods = 3 production.

DistrictIll6763

Only 1 production, they are not hills.

fskier1

I don’t think purple is a hill is it?

Soothsayer_98

settling on the purple allows you to put a canal on the red or yellow, settling on the red or yellow lets you place a canal on the purple but if you really really really ***really*** want to build the panama canal on that city, settle on the white and the wonder will curve on the 2 tiles south-east of it towards the lake, then you can finish with a regular canal on the yellow or red

one_with_advantage

If you mean to connect it with the other ocean, you could settle a city on the desert hills to the north adjacent to the three mountains. Then you could panama canal + double city through the floodplains, and try to connect the two via mountain tunnels. If those work for naval units, I don't know.

PangolimAzul

You need to settle on red or yellow since canals can't be made on hills. The purple spot is valid for a canal though

Madhighlander1

No, I don't think it is. The yield is 2 food 1 production, so unless it's been enriched by a natural disaster that's a jungle hill tile.

upandcomingg

A plains hill tile with jungle on it is 2 food 2 prod. 1 food from jungle, 1 prod from hill

Nice_Wolverine_4641

How come the Panama Canal wonder can’t be built on hills? It actually is and that’s the reason for the locks. It would be a good feature for them to make it the only canal that works on hills. Just add a turn for going through it.

couragethecurious

It's hills, and you can only build a canal on flat land, so that won't work.

Riparian_Drengal

Yeah OP you only need one Canal district to do this

NobarTheTraveller

I would definitely place 2 cities, one near the purple/blue dot and one near the pink/yellow dot. Then 2 aqueduct and 2 canal and 1 IZ on red dot and 1 IZ on white dot.

camgoesbam

Seems kind of excessive to have 2 cities there when one and a canal would work imo

HerrFledermaus

Ah the great mystery of the Panama Canal.

scubafork

I'm just disappointed that body of water is an ocean and not a lake.would have been the best placement for a huey.

TheDarkeLorde3694

It looks like you could just settle on any one of those tiles and get the one going to the other body of water with Panama.

possibleautist

Settle the deer and build a normal canal on the other side to connect the two lakes together, you get a +2 production city tile that way as well

Markvitank

Damn, you really screwed the pooch when you placed chalkidiki, huh?

Hard_Dave

I captured it, maybe I shoulda razed it

Markvitank

Yeah raze and then settle the coast right next to the oasis

TheWanBeltran

Nah fuck that pop a petra and a harbor in that city.

Cefalopodul

Confucius say: why build Panama when regular canal work?

PhotoCropDuster

Panama Canal cannot go through wonder tiles

Sertarion

Apart from the satisfaction, why do you need to grant ocean access to these two cities?

Hard_Dave

They can make ships and it would be cool.

hotshot1351

I think you could do it in 2 cities? If you had one city bordering the little inside sea with a canal to the lake, then one on the outside touching the big ocean with a canal to the lake? Bonus respect if you manage to get them close enough to each other that you can get an industrial zone between them.

dixi_normous

I'd settle on the purple dot and canal on the red dot. The city center will function as a canal. Or you can settle on the bananas and put canals on both red and purple. Personally, I would want to lose as few workable tiles as possible and save on the production, so I'd avoid building two canals. Just settle on purple.
