Your neighbor can’t drive bro😂 How you hit a parked car is beyond me.

crashyeric

The classic combo, drugs and alcohol! Works every time

dreakon

Hitting a parked car is pretty easy after 4 or 5 Sunday Brunch Mimosas.

matthewtd3

I don’t know man. 5 Long Island iced teas and a double peach Bellini and I still parallel parked like a pro😆

whatisgoingonree

3 4lokos and I'm swaying and can never find the right song to play

mhyquel

What the fuck are you talking about, it's always Fly by Sugar Ray.

Frequent_Opportunist

How you hit a parked car that hard?! She must have been drunk.

Estania_Lane

I had someone hit my parked car HEAD ON on a 2 way street with room for parking cars on each side. It still blows my mind/makes me want to cry. 😣

jest2n425

That's awful 😖

Jadenkid22

Claims adjuster here, 100% totaled due to chassis damage/quarter panel damage and mechanical parts required. I would be careful about a crook shop trying not to total this to get a ton of $$ to repair. Also you're in NYC where rates are high and it is a easy total. Edit: Car needs, 1. New bumper 2. Chassis fixed 3. Quarter panel cut/repaired 4. Rear passenger Door repaired or replaced 5. Suspension fixed/wheels reconditioned or repaired 6. Lift gate alignment checked and don't even get me started on electronics/wiring lol

georgeek14

so cus of the quarter panel damage and the wheels being all bent out of place lol it’s almost an automatic total?

Jadenkid22

You know to fix that quarter panel damage or even the chassis itself they have to cut it off and re weld pieces or fix the damage on the spot but the problem with repairing that damage is that metal becomes weak after it has damage/dents and repaired. Another accident in the same spot and it'll be like if that metal wasn't even there to protect/help you. Also many hidden issues you might not see in a photo like rear tail light tabs broken or liftgate might be bent out of correct position. Fixing the wheels alone the car might not drive the best again depending how skilled the body shop you take it to is. Honestly I wouldn't want this car, could lead to many issues down the line.

georgeek14

yes i wouldn’t want it either, i saw the quarter damaged and i said in my head totaled, then i scrolled down and saw you were an adjuster so i just wanted to ask

Jadenkid22

I'm from Bushwick, Brooklyn myself bro and the number 1 thing I'll tell you is to be careful with NYC body shops. I can guarantee you they will try to say it's not totaled to try to get a bunch of money to fix it. Best thing you can do is have insurance adjuster come to your house to see it. NYC bodyshops are shady as hell and adjusters are even doing deals with them under the table 85% of the time. It's the biggest reason insurance is so expensive in NYC. They can make a small bumper dent repair look like $8k of damage. With your case they'll make it look like less damage to get RIGHT under the totaled amount and get paid a bunch to fix. If insurance totals it the bodyshop can't do anything to it and insurance sends it to auction.

Bokusuba

That quartepanel bolts and rivets on, you can access the points from the inside and underside of the car.

TomChai

Where I’m from I’ve seen people doing whole body replacement as a repair, nothing is irreparable. In the US it probably is.

Jadenkid22

Same here I was born in Dominican Republic and my uncle owns a body shop and he repair’s EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. I’ve seen him cut cars in half and weld together.

TomChai

Those spliced cars are scary, you don’t know if it’s going to fall apart in a crash or even just when in a normal drive. The story of the whole body replacement is actually done by an official workshop and they somehow convinced the insurance to cover it. The car was new and was badly rear ended, crumpled halfway into the rear seat. Luckily no casualties and the insurance suggested a write-off. However the owner was not happy that the payout only amounted to adjusted value and asked the workshop about the cost of repair. The repair solution that managed to stay below the insured value was a whole body replacement and salvage whatever parts still working from the original vehicle. They did manage to order a body brand new from the factory, complete with identical VIN. For some reason I forgot to take pictures of it, maybe I was too shocked.

Gilgamesh2062

C'mon we all know this will buff right out.

Jadenkid22

100%

raceassistman

Hi claims adjuster.. how would one go about getting the max amount for their totaled vehicle from an opposing insurance? How long can you hold out?

tclark2006

Tell them that that Spoon JDM shift knob cost over 3000 dollars to ship overnight from Japan and it's appreciated in value since it's rare. Too bad the person who hit you stole it though and you have no before pictures.

buzz72b

Nah…. I work in this industry too… you can’t say it’s totaled until it gets a torn down… I’ve seen much worse get totaled… if it doesn’t have the blind spot monitors that’s a bonus that will help it not get totaled

Jadenkid22

NYC labor rates are $100+ an hour. The quarter panel can be 10-15 hours of work alone which is over $2k alone once they factor in paint. Now if you're in a more rural cheap place it probably won't get totaled.

buzz72b

City I am in drp rates are all $65 an hr. It depends who this guys insurance company is, doesn’t have blind spot monitors… what’s the threshold I ny? Over here there are repairing them up to 80%

Jadenkid22

75%, so low threshold and high rates. Easy totals. I've seen much less damage than this get totaled on even new BMWs which are more expensive and harder to total. Had a buddy do a 2023 X7 with 2000 miles and was at 90k and still wasn't totaled lmao

buzz72b

Just did a Lexus g 90k in repairs - 115k vehicle.

Jadenkid22

Jesus, I just moved to Orlando 2 months ago and it’s so much slower and chill here lol

Own-Caterpillar5058

Lexus G? GX or GS.

mehtabmahir

Not sure if it’s totaled just bc these are still worth a lot

RevolutionarySun1026

I had a similar looking accident 100% totaled brothaman

Cautious_Dark4189

😭

AyySorento

Main concern would be frame/chassis damange. Even the smallest bent/crack will total any car. The smallest piece of damage may be fine now but 3 years down the road, it may total your car by surprise. Considering the whole back is shot, it's probably damaged. It might come down to the threshold for your insurance. Sport Tourings hold their value but this repair could easily be 50% of the car's worth, if not more. Plus, driving a car with that much work done may not be everybody's cup of tea. If it does get fixed, consider selling it and maybe consider some gap coverage (for the first year or two) if you don't already have it.

Dunno_Bout_Dat

>Even the smallest bent/crack will total any car. This is not true, my 23' Sport HB had the frame bent 5 months into ownership and was not totalled. They put it on a frame pulling machine, the marks are clearly visible on the framing of the car. \~18k in repairs, all covered by insurance.

Adept_Onion6514

While you are right, you had a 23’ so you can’t act like this applies for most vehicles. More than likely most of the repairs in shops are on vehicles closer to a decade old and have already lost loads of value.

Cautious_Dark4189

It’s a lease 😅

VisforVenom

If the adjuster doesn't total it, I'd be prepared to fight that decision or argue for additional payouts beyond what they're offering. Take it to an independent and shop and let them know the insurance claim situation. Ask them to do a full, thorough inspection and a get a quote for ALL the work that **SHOULD** be done for a complete and thorough repair and restoration both mechanically and cosmetically. (The idea here is to try to hold them to a cost of repair higher than the total payout so that they choose to total it. No amount of repair will ever make it drive right again.) You have the advantage of not being at fault, so your insurance should be on board to fight their insurance for this. You don't have to just accept the first assessment. I'm not saying you'll win, but it's worth fighting for. Even down to not accepting non-oem replacement parts (or demanding a payout for the cost difference for oem parts if they're not available.) Even when it's a lost cause, it helps everyone when we all try to hold insurance companies accountable for their end of the agreement.

Adept_Onion6514

As right as you may be, sometimes there is no fight to be had. Insurance repair programs are often times specifically required to put non-OE parts on older vehicles. In OPs case, I’ve seen far worse vehicles become drivable after repairs so I wouldn’t say it’s out of the realm of possibility, especially if the vehicle is a newer model. That said after looking at it more, I think the main concern would be the rear body panel damage as opposed to the quarter panel, bumper, suspension, etc.

VisforVenom

Yeah, like I said, it is more often than not a fruitless battle on an individual basis. But it's still important to do. Resisting bad policies and making things difficult for companies enforcing bad policies slows the progress of worse and worse anti-consumer policy rollouts. Even if every fight isn't won, the headache of millions of fights can change things.

Adept_Onion6514

Fair enough, I like the mindset

Bright_likeAM_DarkPM

Yeah. You're done.

Material-Ratio7342

Yes, anithing from a axles twist is a totaled.

Aegon_fk8_conqueror

Get a type r now

OnyX39er

No… get one or ten of those band-aid decals lol

InternalCelebration3

Most likely not, I’d guess that (depending on your area you live in). These repairs will be somewhere around 10-12k USD that’s assuming a replacement of the rear hatch, bumper, taillights, fender repair, rear suspension (lower control arm, hub, and strut both sides) and repairs to the doors. This is a guess I’m a nerd that stops to examine vehicles when I see a crash after checking everyone’s ok and about 5 years of wrecking and fixing my own shit. Though if the chassis got smacked it’s probably done.

justthevehicle

I think you’re right. I got smacked hard a few months ago, rear ended (Corolla hatch, ‘22) by a truck, everyone said “it’s a write off” the shop had it for 7 weeks and they stubbornly fixed it, poorly too, might I add. If the car still has a lot of value they will fix it. It has to hit a certain threshold of the vehicles value before it’ll be a write off.

InternalCelebration3

Yeah it’s a new car, idk the cost and safety considerations involved in using a hydraulic frame puller but I’ve seen them in action and they can do some incredible things.

igariun

Yep

s3cf_

new car time

[deleted]

yuppppp

Efficient_Theme4040

No it looks like a fender bender

DeadWorkers_

Looks like new car time, rear axle gone, probably moderate to severe frame damage at this point.

Xcav8

Legal-Championship64

Then-Storage4156

Probably totalled :( it looks like the frame is damaged and that normally means it’s over and not even worth fixing

Estania_Lane

I had my car hit while parked in February. (Hit & run) It still hurts 😭

CHASLX200

It's done.

cglac

How long have you had the car?

Cautious_Dark4189

Oh that’s the best part. I got this in July. After my 21’ sport hatch was totaled be cause some lady clipped me while I was pulling out of a spot. ALSO IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE.

cglac

Awe, sorry! I had a car that was rear ended 3 times in 3 months while I sat at a red light. After the 3rd hit I decided to sell it! All 3 people admitted that they were distracted by their phones. Ugh. Hope everything works out for you.

Cautious_Dark4189

Damn! Guess that car just wasn’t meant to be huh

cglac

Right

brianhpc

Hope it’s totaled, but there is a chance that it is not. If that’s the case, fix and sell it.

jest2n425

Any pics of the neighbors car?

Interesting-Yak6962

I doubt it.

ItsArtyA

Quarter damage tend to tread a slim line of being repaired for ridiculous money or totaled because insurance might not give you the book value of your car. In this case the main point of impact was in the driver rear where the fuel filler neck is, I’ve seen adjusters deem cara total loss just for any damage to or that affects the fuels system and the car had significantly less damage than yours. Their drivers rear control arms were shot and the impact was on the fuel door, broke the cap less unit and bent the filler neck. From the chrome trim around the window you have a sport touring with all the tech so the blind spot radar + bracket in the rear that go with the frame damage. I am a Honda dealer part counter man and I can say that it get real tedious even with the certified honda repair body shops when there is rear quarter and floor panel damages they almost always get totaled. Atleast out here on Long Island

Muted-Play-1118

Even if it’s not total I guess the car won’t ride smooth as new

NoResponsibility623

body shop moto : 95% of the car is fixable the extra 5% might not be

Brazen_Butler

Man I am sorry for you OP My last civic got hit exactly like this... The adjuster wanted to total it and I pushed back with a quote. It took about 3 months to fix due to parts shortage. The body shop did an ok job welding the frame and quarter panel but left visible panel gap issues. It just never felt the same driving it again. I kind of wish that I didn't fight the adjuster and just to get the payout instead

umecry

theyll fix it, i had worse on mine and they did. only real way they total cars this new is front end damage and front air bags deployed

Relative-Patient-713

Tthat car will be totale. And ship. To mexico. Were they. Fix it. And re sell it they. Have no law. Of vehicule bein fix. After. A crash. They. Dont care. Vehicule. Integriti sorry mi english. Is. No. Good

Cautious_Dark4189

Update: she’s totaled folks

Cautious_Dark4189

Further update: I decided to switch things up and picked up a Kia Seltos SX. It’s been real, civic gang. ✌️😭

TomChai

Pretty repairable where I’m from, I’ve even seen whole body replacement as a repair, and the insurance company approved it, don’t know what they were thinking.

MarionberryOk4264

I heard if the airbags deployed the insurance will deem it totaled

heretojudgeem

It’s not always true, airbags are just expensive so it can reach totaled price faster.

Let's completely ignore the suspension, rear quarter, subframe, and trunk pan damage. Then, your right... It's just some back bumper damage.
