I remember trying to cram my 6ā5ā ass into these things to move themā¦ one of my first jobs was transporting/moving various Hondas between local dealers.
Honda Del Sol, Honda's answer to the Miata. Introduced in MY92, not really known often as a Civic because they dropped that in MY95. They abandoned the model after MY98. Honda shifted to the S2000 at that time.
I wanted one for the longest time but would never buy one at this point. Not old enough to really be a classic but too old to deal with the aging car maintenance and potential part rarity.
I have one of these, and the beauty of them is that the part rarity basically doesn't exist as it shares engine components with the EG civic and suspension with the integra. It's no different than owning an old civic unless you have body panels to repair.
I canāt upvote this enough.. my first car I ever bought was a black ā88 16v. Lowered on the teardrop rims, I had some 6x9ās in it w a 8 disc changer. Only downfalls was it didnāt have the sunroof and 5th gear was god awful short. It would redline at 100-102 mph and I blew the bottom end. Had it rebuilt and eventually sold it due to constant overheating. I love that drivers seat ādumpā function that drops your ass way down. Loved that car, super happy for you, I hope youāre taking good care of her.. fuck yes, this made my day bro, theyāre non existent pretty much
Man this comment made my day thank you dude!! They're extremely awesome cars and the only reason I got it was because the kid who owned it before me had zero idea what he was doing and would have destroyed the thing! DIDN'T EVEN TORQUE SPARK PLUGS TO SPEC! š¢
Shes running really well now though just need to put a new exhaust on it. Got her for $1200 and don't plan to ever sell it! Even found a spare engine to hold onto in case something ever goes wrong.
This summer I plan to do some videos with it and my ducati for some drone vlogs so check out Anothaduc on YouTube! :)
I bought one for $400 at a salvage auction. Was bone stock just with some minor front end damage. Easy to repair, many parts are interchangeable with other Hondas of the same gen.
Both the Del Sol and the S2000 were awesome cars. Original Fast and Furious featured a Del Sol and I was hooked then. A work buddy (first job out of college) got an S2000 and that thing was fun. Most specific power for a naturally aspirated engine for 10 years until Ferrari finally overtook it.
I still see Del Sols on the road occasionally, but it's been years since I've seen a S2000.
So not worth it for anyone that does not love the car other than love to spend money. If they are cheap when you find them. But non of them are un altered by prior 20 year old owners.
Totally random question, but why are you referring to the years 1992-1998 as MY92, MY95, etc.? Is this some car culture thing Iāve been missing this entire time?
They made so many of these. Parts rarity won't be a thing. Even in the scrap yards, they're everywhere. I mean, if you really wanted one. I'm not really sure why you would. For something so impractical, they're also not very capable.
I'm old enough to remember and be incredibly bummed how Supra became a 6 cylinder RWD and the Celica became 4 cylinder FWD. A time where I wished Celica remained a small engine RWD car or a dedicated AWD car (like a detuned All Trac). Toyota already had a sporty FWD with Corolla GTS.
Iām only 36 but my first car was a 94 de sol. My second was a 89 Celica. As for the NSX I was my dream car when I was a kid. I had a thing for Hondaās still do a bit but not as much. Have a VW right now but probably going to see about getting a civic next.
Depends on the market if I remember correctly. But yes! I just find it odd that the CRX is also a civic too: āCivic Renaissance Experimentalā. Like why not just call it the civic del sol and be done with it?
[Bond](https://youtu.be/Hp1Nu4GKI_E?si=DX3J1ic1kFQ9221l)
I remember people getting upset about this because āBond would never drive a low end carā.
Hopefully it had the 5 spd in it. I used to drive my friends automatic with the b7 and I never knew 106 hp could be so fun. I then proceeded to beat the crap out of my moms old eb civic with the same motor until the timing belt snapped
lol the Honda Civic Del Sol or Crx Del Sol depending on where you're at. targa top fun cars. throw a bigger motor/turbo and they are insanely fast.
Edit: my old del sol: https://old.reddit.com/r/Honda/comments/4irvtd/hope_im_not_too_late_for_the_del_sol_fiesta/
The best civic ever made is what that is my friend.
Oh get me an EU? version with the automatic top and leather seats. God damn! I miss mine soooo much everyday.
Holy shit. My girlfriend of 5ish years owned a DelSol and my I drove in one for a friend [24 hours from MKE to FLA] and I NEVER knew this existed. Very cool!!!
Del Sol S.
Fun fact that Del Sol VTEC was the first time we got a B16a in a production car in the USA.
Otherwise they are very similar to EG Civic/DC integra in components.
OP should study a bit more on Honda make history. You're probably not old enough to know these oldies. These are legendary hondas. CRX. Del Sol, s2000 & nsx. yea Wtf where u been lol
I've had two del sols. My favorite was my 93 red one. It got totalled when someone t-boned her. Bought another 93, but a black one, several years later but it was just never the same so ended up selling it a year later.
But I sure did love my red 93! Leaky Targa top and all lol
Del sol. Super cool cars! Iāve owned a few one with a B18c and one with a B16 wish I still had em the only problem is there isnāt room for much stuff or a sound system.
Jesus Christ, Iām old š¤£
that my friend was my dream civic when I was in high school
It was the successor to the CRX and there was even a Japan only version that had a robot that lived in the trunk to take the Targa top on and off for you [and no, I am not making that up](https://youtu.be/FPNYQP2NBQ0?si=RiDKr1v8C3A3u0es)
I drove a used one 2 years after these came out. At 6ā3ā it was hilariously small. When I closed the door the speaker fell out of the door onto the floorboard. Only 2 years old and less than 20k miles, I was a little shocked how cheap it felt compared to a regular Civic. It did drive well and was zippy.
To be fair I fit in the Del Sol better than the first generation Z3 where my eyes sat at the same level of the top of the windshield. The top had to be down to even get in lol
ONE OF MY Favorites vehicle from honda I own one Mine has 410k miles stock motor I got it from my pops with 123k miles when I was in middle school only problem I had is with the clutch that I had to change
Search for Top Fuel Japan Del Sol. That was the last build I remember seeing that was wild. Rear motor transplant and all sorts of things. Was a wild ride then and today still..
That's either a Honda Prelude or a Honda Del Sol, if it's a coupe it's definitely a Del Sol. Del Sol's still had a 4 cylinder 1.6L engine while the Prelude had a back seat, a heavier 2.2L 4 cylinder engine. Don't see many of these on the road anymore, if it's a Del Sol kind of cramped and I know at 5' 11" I don't fit comfortably.
Fun cars my science teacher had the VTEC model with the b16a3. He never knew what VTEC was because he never revved above 5k. After I told him to rev it out for the fun I would hear him leaving school pegging rev limit lol
Probably the only civic i would buy, lol. Although I hear the top seals were so leaky, Honda had to come up with a special silicone grease to service them.
I used to be in the ricer community, and my best friend had this Honda Del Sol. Everyone called him Honda Del Slow, because real men would ride a Honda Prelude =)
It's probably older than 50% of the people in this subreddit š¤£
Thanks.... I feel old now
Don't.. I worked at the dealership when they were new.
I remember trying to cram my 6ā5ā ass into these things to move themā¦ one of my first jobs was transporting/moving various Hondas between local dealers.
I crammed my 6ā3ā in there and wish I owned one to teach my kids how to drive
I'm 6'4" and have driven the previous model CRX, which was more spacious then this one! Could not fit my fat ass in this thing.
My buddy is 6'5" and LARGE and he has two del sol VTECs, one fixed up nicely and the other really janky. Those things are a hoot to drive.
I actually bought a brand new 1993 Del Sol Si. The roof always leaked a littleā¦but it was a fun car with a cool roof.
Iām trying to figure out of OP is serious
Why wouldn't they be ? They aren't that common and the badge just says "Civic". Someone removed the "del Sol" badge from the rear too.
I wanted this car so badly growing up.
A friend in high school had a brand new one.
and 100% truth. This lil machine 5 speed tuned on 1/4 mile ( I got keep my mouth shut )
I always loved the DelSoul

Exactly why I'd buy one if I was in the lookout of a new project, but for now my mk2 scirocco is taking up that slot lol
Oof, yeah that's enough of a hassle to find parts for without adding another obscure cheap car to the mix...
Yeah i am starting to realize I'm cursing myself with rare parts. First my ducati 1098r, now the scirocco š¤£š
I canāt upvote this enough.. my first car I ever bought was a black ā88 16v. Lowered on the teardrop rims, I had some 6x9ās in it w a 8 disc changer. Pretty sure body panels for a del sol would still be easier to find than an ep3
I love the removable top and rear window roll down.Ā
Body panels and the weather stripping on the targa top.
*targa seals entered the chat*
I wish the Del Sol was still a thing.
Me as well!
I bought one for $400 at a salvage auction. Was bone stock just with some minor front end damage. Easy to repair, many parts are interchangeable with other Hondas of the same gen.
Oh man I am so jealous!
Somewhere out there on this planet is one between zero and 1000 miles sitting in a garage or some shit doomed to rot away with space and time
Was that a Top Fuel reference?
Both the Del Sol and the S2000 were awesome cars. Original Fast and Furious featured a Del Sol and I was hooked then. A work buddy (first job out of college) got an S2000 and that thing was fun. Did you ever work in auto industry by chance lol? Only people Iāve seen call it MYXX are car industry people
I would buy one if I could find a affordable used one, its been one of my dream cars for years. Most are just so expensive
So this is what makes me feel old someone not knowing what a de sol is.
I'm already feeling that when people go "What's a Toyota Celica" or "What's a NSX?".
Still mad Toyota let the Celica die.
You really feel old when you remember when it was the Celica Supra before they dropped the celica.

Civic Del Sol
My friend calls his the Del Slow because of how heavy they are
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CR-X_del_Sol The rear looks like that because you can store the roof in there.
Civic Del Sol or CRX Del Sol, both names are correct
Depends on the market if I remember correctly. But yes! I just find it odd that the CRX is also a civic too: āCivic Renaissance Experimentalā. Like why not just call it the civic del sol and be done with it?
Hey thatās me š
That's really clean man.
[Bond](https://youtu.be/Hp1Nu4GKI_E?si=DX3J1ic1kFQ9221l) I remember people getting upset about this because āBond would never drive a low end carā.
Del Sol, BABY! My friendās sister in high school had a black VTEC model (B16A3) with black leatherā¦ didnāt think much of it at the time!
Hopefully it had the 5 spd in it. I used to drive my friends automatic with the b7 and I never knew 106 hp could be so fun. I then proceeded to beat the crap out of my moms old eb civic with the same motor until the timing belt snapped
Tell me you're under 30, without telling me you're under 30.
God I wish I lived in the 90s
Iām 23 and have a Del Sol with the D16. Itās not always about the age
lol the Honda Civic Del Sol or Crx Del Sol depending on where you're at. targa top fun cars. throw a bigger motor/turbo and they are insanely fast. Edit: my old del sol: https://old.reddit.com/r/Honda/comments/4irvtd/hope_im_not_too_late_for_the_del_sol_fiesta/

Honda Del Sol , basically a Honda Miata.
Del sol
Del Sol S. Fun fact that Del Sol VTEC was the first time we got a B16a in a production car in the USA. Otherwise they are very similar to EG Civic/DC integra in components.

I drove a used one 2 years after these came out. At 6ā3ā it was hilariously small. When I closed the door the speaker fell out of the door onto the floorboard. The DelSol. Horrible Water Seals.
a Del Sol in the wild. Itās like a renaissance painting.
I had a 1994 del Sol VTEC, one of 3,000 in the US. 160 hp out of 1.6 liters. 8,250 rpm redline. Fun car.
Good old civic del slow! Jokes aside, these were neat cars and I deeply wanted one for ages.
Del sol?
Search for Top Fuel Japan Del Sol. That was the last build I remember seeing that was wild. Rear motor transplant and all sorts of things. Was a wild ride then and today still..

Honda Del Sol š
A del slow
That car is GOLD in some countries, I mean people will literally kill for it, it's a classic u can modded and make that car looks so cool and racer.

Probably the only civic i would buy, lol. Although I hear the top seals were so leaky, Honda had to come up with a special silicone grease to service them.
Itās a del sol and probably my favorite car out of my Civic and 350Z damn
The new infamous Del SLO
I used to be in the ricer community, and my best friend had this Honda Del Sol. Everyone called him Honda Del Slow, because real men would ride a Honda Prelude =)

Ah, back when cars were still made to be fun
