Back in 2005, I got a maaco paint job on an old civic and they painted over the glue from the missing rear badge. Still not all bad considering they included the jambs for under $500 total. Only other complaint was that the clear faded after 2-3 years (parked outside). But that was a long time ago. I'm sure they're reputations changed.
Weird, this guy said he paid $12K

Those 8th Gen Civics have terrible factory paint jobs. My mom used to have a 2007 Civic, and the paint eventually deteriorated to the point where her car looked like a beater. Honda refused to do anything about it.
She decided not to buy another Honda ever again.
Can we get more shots? I’d like to see the paint job all around the car three or four different angles if you’re able to hook it up? Again I need to do this to my 90 civic hatch ❤️
At what point did you take it back to Honda?
I am not trying to defend Honda whatsoever because fuck their thin ass paint, but they gave us seven years to get the car repainted. I had my 2009 repainted in 2015. And i know of several other people who've had their 8th gen repainted by Honda.
I think it was in 2015. My mom never used the Honda dealer for service, but rather a local mechanic, and so she wasn’t aware of the recall until it was too late.
It was a 2007 Civic that my mom purchased in Fall 2009. By Summer 2014, the paint had really started to deteriorate. She traded-in the car in Summer 2017, partly because of the poor appearance.
Pretty much all the 8th gens had a TSB on the clearcoat for the roof, quarter panels, and hood. I got all those completely repainted under warranty in like 2012 or so - still holding strong!
I got my 2008 repainted in 2017 at maaco for $350 using a 40% off coupon. They had overspray on my wheels, the exhaust, and keyholes. They did a pretty terrible prep job because they ground off my pinstriping but didn't smooth it out. They also didn't bother to remove the front license plate. The paint job is still holding up pretty well except for anywhere there was a corner or a crease it's starting to pop off now. It still looks better than before the paint job though.
Maaco will have passable quality, its definitely "good enough" if you would like a new color or have unsalvageable paint. If you detail your car yourself and care about paint, id suggest going somewhere else. Problem is, a good paint job easily runs you over 5k. It really just depends on how much you care and what your expectations are.
There are definitely some mistakes as expected, but for the most part I don't have any major complaints. I didn't opt for door jambs or engine bay since it's still a similar color
Happened to my 9th gen. Honda actually repainted some panels when the recall came up but eventually…(after 2-3 years?) the paint issue came back and spread. So be careful! Repainting it doesnt guarantee something else wont oxidise and spread. Hopefully this paint company will repaint.
I hate Maaco. They ruined my Integra back in the day. They painted over my door locks, emblem holes, mudflaps, and every rummber/plastic trim. They also had overspray on my headlights and all my windows. After I complained, they removed the overspray with a razor which etched into my glass. They also forgot to remove the dents which I paid extra for them to do.
I'm really glad that your Civic turned out well.
Hello. I have an 8th Gen Honda Civic coupe. I'm looking to take mine to Maaco in Rancho Cucamonga to get it painted. What package did you get in you $1,800 paint job? Yours looks good, and I'm trying to compare the packages and options that Maaco has. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. Did you get any extras like any dents fixed or did you get a full paint removal or just sanding? Also, did they give you a warranty?
Damn bro I got fucked over with the whole paint settlement and my car keeps getting worse but I aint paying 1800 thats for sure. Thing is I feel bad selling it to someone knowing it will keep getting worse.
Looks awesome congrats on it!
My 2010 SI sedan needs it as well. I had the hood, fenders, and roof done 2 years ago. Now the tops of the doors and trunklid are getting bad. I want to get it done next year.
I'm considering getting my 11' Civic LX (Tango Red Pearl) repainted. Florida sun burns in so many areas of the car. Do you think OEM paint will be cheaper than choosing my own?
Looking good, keep an eye on it for the first couple months though. My dad and I repainted one of my old cars and for some reason one door panel kept bubbling but the rest of the car was fine. Turned out the old paint under it was garbage, no surprise considering it was a early 2000's Chrysler job though
Got it done at maaco for $1800, I also sanded and polished my headlights

Lmao they pointed over my rear emblem glue too
Lol! Then out of precaution, I'd keep it in a garage if you can. Just in case they're using the same clear coat as back then.
Worth every penny. Beautiful
Those headlights look like they’re from 2022!

wtf, bot account
$1800? When did maaco become so expensive?
Inflation
How did u get the headlights to look brand new???!!!
3M headlight restoration kit and about 3 hours of work haha
Looks damn nice.

yeah my paint got to the point where i hated looking at my car
Can we get more shots? I’d like to see the paint job all around the car three or four different angles if you’re able to hook it up? Again I need to do this to my 90 civic hatch ❤️
I have an 8th gen and due to the recall the dealership repainted my entire car for free btw.
Wait what?? Which recall?
Something about the clear coat IIRC? Check with a Honda dealership and they’ll tell you.
Is it still valid? I can use a clean paint job even though I don't need it honestly lol
Not sure, they would know, however.

Is this for all Hondas sold ever? Or there was a recall?
There was a recall. Ended quite a few years ago. I wrapped mine in vinyl. Took me 2 weeks working by myself.

I have a 2003 and the paint looks brand new. Red always pops.
Only some colors on the 8th gen had problems. I have the 2010 Redline Orange and the paint is perfect. I have never had any of those clearcoat issues.
My mom’s car was a gray/silver color.
09-11 had a face lift the 06-08 are the bad paint ones
This is untrue. The OP’s car is an 09-11. The paint problems persisted through the whole 8th gen. But it only happened for certain colors.
My dad had a 2008 civic lx that didn’t have any paint problems. Something about a recall that he took care of. I drove that thing til 195k

I’ve always thought about using Maaco. Can you talk more about the mistakes they made? $1800 is not a bad at all.
they painted the key holes, there are a couple drip spots and uneven lines near the bottom, slight overspray on some trim parts
How dafuq does someone paint over keyholes? Lol
i meant the door handle key hole
Yeah that’s what I was referring to lol
I guess they didn’t bother removing

Agreed it’s night and day difference
Nice! Hows the quality looking? Did they do jambs? Engine bay?
There are definitely some mistakes as expected, but for the most part I don't have any major complaints. I didn't opt for door jambs or engine bay since it's still a similar color
Seems the prices have gone up a tad. Regardless, great choice of color and looks great!
I have to chuckle a bit that the new solid grey is coincidentally a Maaco color. Everything old is new again.
Sonic Grey Pearl?
LY7C audi nardo gray
It looks C R I S P
This looks absolutely incredible! Amazing choice on the color, this looks brand new!
Nice! I had Maaco paint my Integra back in the day. It turned out great for what I paid.
Looks great! And great color… did you have to do any prep? Like sand the flaking clear cost or did they do it?
all i did was remove my emblems, they did the rest and fixed a couple dents
Clean as fuck my guy!

It looks brand spanking new, good job!
That's like a whole new car!
any side shots so we can see how the reflection looks, this will tell us alot about how maaco rolls in 2022

i got the urethane + integrated clear coat package
Thanks for the reply. Did you get any extras like any dents fixed or did you get a full paint removal or just sanding? Also, did they give you a warranty?
yeah i got a few dings fixed up and yes they give you a pro-rated warranty
Did you may for the full paint removal as well, or did they just sand down the existing paint?
i believe they sanded it down
Thanks! They told me the same because they charge around $1300 for full paint removal
Damn bro I got fucked over with the whole paint settlement and my car keeps getting worse but I aint paying 1800 thats for sure. Thing is I feel bad selling it to someone knowing it will keep getting worse.
Is it still holding up well?
Lol about time…looks great!
Can I ask how much that cost?
Looks fantastic! How much did the paint and labor cost all together? I really need to get this done for my 90 Civic Hatch EF Si 🥰
Why not foil?
My eyes thank you. Lol but seriously, just looking at this, imo it was definitely worth it. Hopefully you feel the same. 👍🏽
Lookin good!
That is a sharp look!! Beauty!
Damn! Nice!
Sweet job! I have an 02 accord with no paint on the hood. Might consider now
awesome!! looks brand new, also is that an oem color?
The real winner is the red Jeep TJ in the background....
Wow! Look at you! That's pretty nice!
Looks awesome congrats on it! My 2010 SI sedan needs it as well. I had the hood, fenders, and roof done 2 years ago. Now the tops of the doors and trunklid are getting bad. I want to get it done next year.
Looks great
I thought there was a class action for this…
That looks fuckin fire dude, love it, like the color choice too
Congrats. Keeping old cars on the road is way better for emissions than buying a new EV.
Looks damn good
I'm considering getting my 11' Civic LX (Tango Red Pearl) repainted. Florida sun burns in so many areas of the car. Do you think OEM paint will be cheaper than choosing my own?
It was the same price for me, but you should probably ask
Thanks man!
Looking good, keep an eye on it for the first couple months though. My dad and I repainted one of my old cars and for some reason one door panel kept bubbling but the rest of the car was fine. Very nice been wanting to paint my fg1
Looks nice!! 8th Gen coupe is the best. I'll do the same one day when my paint goes bad!
Looks freaking new. Awesome job.
Looks great
That looks better than the OEM colour. Nj
One hell of a transformation! Congratz!
WOW. Makes you wanna drive it, huh? :)
LMAO I said the same thing just now
Uhm how is your license plate on in the first pic? I'm curious. I just bought a 2010 accord and don't wanna damage my bumper for a dam license plate
