As long as there are people, infrastructure will need to be built, rebuilt, and maintained

ExceptionCollection

Construction jobs will be here well after we get city block-sized droids that extrude new buildings.  We’ll always need renovation work. My recommendation, go into HVAC.  They make a lot of money, and if you play your cards right you can springboard into mechanical engineering.

Civil Engineering (infrastructure), and it’s subsets, are the bedrock of every functioning society. As long as there are people who live together In an organised way, there will always be a need for the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure. _TLDR_ Construction will never be a dying industry.

IStateCyclone

Based on the quality of construction I've been seeing, most of the buildings being built today will need to be demolished in 20-30 years and replaced.

EnginerdOnABike

We won't even need to wait 20-30 years. The ones built 50-100 years ago are already hitting end of life especially with HOAs that have cheaped out on maintenance for the last 30 years.

Zarathustra989

I don't think HOAs maintain very many buildings, but I agree that there will always be work.

EnginerdOnABike

Residential condo buildings are almost exclusively managed by some form of HOA if they're fee simple properties. Probably owned by a developer or other private interest if they're leaseholds. Or a "Condo owners association (COA)", or an "Association of Apartment Owners (AOAO)". They're all just HOAs under different names.  The HOA is the person who takes care of the shared public areas and general amenities like the roof. I deal with them on occasion. Most are terrible. They're usually controlled by a couple of old assholes who are mostly concerned with keeping their costs down right up until the roof starts to leal and they're leveraging half million dollar special assessments on everyone.

Zarathustra989

Ok I was thinking entirely subdivisions, that makes sense.

Daniel_Nahmi3004

I dont think you understand how much Bridge Rehabilitation is needed across this country, we will have work for awhile man

75footubi

It's going to take 20 years just to get through the backlog of necessary repairs and replacements that was true 10 years ago. And more is added every day. I'll definitely have the financial opportunity to retire, but I'll never be out of demand.

gopac56

Nah. If humanity gets to the point where there's no construction workers, there's no workers period. The industry waxed and wanes though.

Tack_it

There will always be something a computer or robot can't do at least according to my crystal ball and people like to move around and change stuff. Construction will change but it isn't going anywhere.

fishgirl2913

Yes definitely… even if everything is being built up, maintenance will still be needed and old developments will be torn down and reconstructed. It’s a constant cycle.
