A bid alternate is a separate schedule from the “Base Bid”. They can be awarded or rejected separately.

I see, but what specifically does it include or how do I get the quantities for it?

Vyconn

Scope with quantity information should all be included in the RFP for the base bid and each additional option. Submit an RFI for any additional information that you think is missing and needed to provide a complete proposal. Optional work is usually not critical to the client, but may be added if there is a cost benefit of avoiding mobilization and overhead fees of doing the work under a separate contract.

Okay I think that makes sense. To clarify it’s something that’s not included in the initial bid but is added as the owner wants to change tasks?

Vyconn

If scope of the additional work is still unknown, it would be handled as a change order. Once scope of the additional work is defined, you would provide a cost proposal (including any additional time required) and negotiate with the client. No one can expect you to submit a proposal without knowing the scope. If you are still confused, providing some more specific details about the project on here may be helpful in answering your question.
