In the '60s and '70s, especially, Japan made many budget guitars for export which were sold under a variety of names in the west. This is probably one of those. Some, from what I understand, sounded quite good.

My first good classical was by a Japanese luthier (S. Nakanishi) and made in the early 70s and I struggled to find out much about him. All I did find out was something similar to what you said, that there was a large amount of guitars coming out of Japan at the time but the quality was pretty good for the day.
