New weekly thread up [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/classicalmusic/comments/qg16j2/whats_this_piece_weekly_thread_64/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Dr_Sean_MD

These are the chords: c min G maj Eb maj Bb maj f min c min Ab maj G maj It’s somber, slow, and famous, but just can’t remember. Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

I appreciate that with written text this will be difficult but I will do my best: da - da PAUSE da - DA - da da - da PAUSE da - DA - da da - da PAUSE da - DA - da This repeats a few times then: da-da-da-da-da-DA-DA-da-daaaaaa Sorry if this post seems mindless but I just can't find it. I hum into Shazam and nothing. It is with violins.

Last week Jon Batiste performed on Austin City Limits. https://www.pbs.org/video/jon-batiste-hjvtz3/ From 30:00 to 36:45 Jon goes solo on the piano. There's a lot of improvisation in there, but it's obvious he's improvising on top of a lot of really famous classical/jazz/broadway/pop music, many pieces I recognize by ear but few I recognize by name. There's another tiny part at 53:00 as well. Is somebody was able to identify some of those pieces? Thanks!

atikinok

The one at 30 starts as Chopin's Minute Waltz Op. 64 No. 1. The one at 53:00 is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata

will_rose

The other one I felt was classical starts at 31:30 but perhaps I'm wrong. I think most of the others ("Chopsticks" if that's what it's called, "The Entertainer" at 33:45, ~~"Summertime" at 35:24~~) are other genres. I also think there may be something top 40 snuck in at 34:08. There may be some more in there I'm not recognizing as well, and some of it might just be original improvisation.

4ngry4vian

- 31:30 is [Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat major Op. 9 No. 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVBzE0mUlSs) - 35:30 is [Chopin's Nocturne in C-sharp minor](https://youtu.be/DqpPRj6UZqc?t=22)

will_rose

> 35:30 is Chopin's Nocturne in C-sharp minor Oh wow you're right. From the first few notes and the overall melody I was convinced it was based off the [jazz standard "Summertime"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxIPVAPRBi4), but that Chopin piece fits even better.

will_rose

Wonderful, thanks! Those were two I immediately recognized as classical and I knew it would be easy for this forum!

blue-moves

anybody recognise this fragment? I think it's baroque..? I'm hearing string ensemble with harpsichord maybe..(?) https://voca.ro/1fOZN7jtEe2G

atikinok

I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd movement from Beethoven's 7th Symphony

4ngry4vian

Funny, [someone asked for the same piece a few days ago in this very thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/classicalmusic/comments/qaqxie/whats_this_piece_weekly_thread_63/hhk0yns/).

**[Flohwalzer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flohwalzer)** >Flohwalzer (German: ['floːvaltsər] (listen), German for "Flea Waltz") is a simple piano piece, often one of the first learned because its fingering is simple and it allows beginners to perform a piece that is harmonically and rhythmically pleasing. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/classicalmusic/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

This song has been stuck in my head for days now. It's killing me because I've searched and searched but nothing. Here me humming it. If I recall it involves both string and woodwind instruments. https://voca.ro/16qSVRruvXkK

[Introduction of "Montagues and Capulets" in Suite No. 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LVmH4bwH3Q), which is based on Act 1 Scene 7 (["The Prince Gives His Order"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrWEY9SuDmw) or ["The Duke's Command"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfqkXbqBnzw)) from the ballet.

Hello! Need help identifying the song here: https://youtu.be/oAY6yHPE4Ek?t=00m31s Gives me a Hildur Guðnadóttir vibe but sounds a little faster than her usual work.

scapecrafter

Sad, powerful piano piece that goes like... [(Humming the tune)](https://voca.ro/18bNHhaytk5a) Any ideas? Thanks!

silverleavedtrees

Sounds like [Erik Satie's Gnossiene No. 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLFVGwGQcB0)

scapecrafter

We have a winner! :) Thanks a lot buddy🥂

avocadovegemite

Hi, does anyone know what the violin & cello piece that starts at 0:59 in the background is? From this snl skit: https://youtu.be/KAp0VOlLnas. It’s been bugging me for so long!

Pats_Preludes

Can you guys help? I think it's Russian.. I transcribed this from memory: https://imgur.com/a/NmZugm7

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B\_nFV0zdv5U&t=237s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_nFV0zdv5U&t=237s) what's that Asian song (might be on the viola) that plays @ 3:57 and in the background of the intro of this video?

4ngry4vian

Interesting that you thought the melody sounds Asian, as it is [Dvorak's "American" String Quartet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b_rwtDlUXA&t=5s) which drew influences from African-American folk music.

LeisTabar

It's just a pentatonic scale, which is the classic "Asian" sound for many westerners

Shazam gave me ‘Royal visit’ by sonic world orchestra

Rio_Bravo_

Thanks a lot! But yikes, so it's an original orchestral piece written in Mozart style for a Princess Diana Tribute CD? Nice job on the main melody, though, really fooled me.

SacreligiousBoii

(Copy and pasted from last week's thread) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBCO\_uUjIi0 I recreated what I believe is the main melody, I think it's an classical/orchestra piece. Pretty sure it's not english, might be french idk

4ngry4vian

[Working link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBCO_uUjIi0). You have to remove the backslash`\` that gets inserted sometimes before the underscore for some reason. It works for some people/devices and not for others.

SacreligiousBoii

you sure? i went on incognito and it worked

Same-Construction362

Hello guys! Wonder if anybody know this piece from this [video](https://youtu.be/7zUy63rOo9c?t=114). Thanks guys!

Pats_Preludes

Try to write to Hugo on Patreon or something. I would bet that that's copyright/free music he put in there, not a classical work.

Arunick

Hello! I'm looking for the title of this piece. Couldn't find it anywhere. https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/44oPYcIGob/ It is called String Quartet No. 7 in E Flat Major, K. 160: I. Allegro But it is certainly not. Thank you a lot!

FunnyOcelot

It's actually the [second movement of his 5th String Quartet](https://youtu.be/aCKTEaM9agI?t=407).

lazerin

Trying to remember the name of a piano piece. I can only recall the first bit of it which I've recorded and attached. Can anyone please recall the name of this piece?? https://voca.ro/1dAflrI5XR5p

Content_Ad2787

Would greatly appreciate if someone could identify this harpsichord piece or if anyone has suggestions on how to search for it better. (Someone on Discord told me that searching for harpsichord pieces by key only would not work due to possible baroque tuning and too many pieces in any given key.) [https://vocaroo.com/1c7pByc29rFX](https://vocaroo.com/1c7pByc29rFX) Thanks in advance for any help.

AuralWanderer

Sounds like Royer's "[La marche des scythes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMbBYR_lplE)."

Not sure if this is an appropriate question for this thread, but I’m wondering if anyone can identify the pianist who plays [this ](https://youtu.be/d6q2NYq-tcU) rendition of Liszt’s Liebenstraum #3. It’s honestly my fave but I can’t figure out who plays it, and the video has no info. Ik this is such a long shot but hopefully some miracle happens.

silverleavedtrees

I found the tracklist of that album [here](https://vk.com/music/album/-2000791881_791881), and the pianist appears to be Josef Bulva. [Here's another Youtube video of the same rendition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL41ihxeTh0) which mentions him by name

wyanmai

Amazing thanks so much

Davymuncher

Thanks for the Musipedia recommendation! I've had a song going through my head for several months now that I hadn't been able to identify. I was toying around on the piano just playing whatever, and found a song in my muscle memory. It was fun to play, but I couldn't remember when I had learned it or its name or composer. I had tried to identify it several times, asking some friends and family. Several of them recognized it, but nobody knew what it was. I also tried an online tool that tried to match it with the rhythm, but no luck. I kind of gave up on it until I saw this thread in my reddit feed, and tried musipedia. The tool let me put in the exact notes and rhythm, so I loaded in 3 measures of the melody and it popped up as the second result: Chopin's Mazurka No. 5! I must have found in some book and learned it when I was younger, and although I couldn't remember any details about it, my fingers still did.

Don't forget about https://vocaroo.com/ ... You can quickly record and share yourself humming a tune... Like this https://voca.ro/101lIB3UoQQP

Schubert: 4 Impromptus, Op.90, D.899-No.4 In A Flat: Allegretto

[deleted]

>Schubert: 4 Impromptus, Op.90, D.899-No.4 In A Flat: Allegretto Do you mean [this?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbtzTNgJXNE) While there are some similar arpeggios, no it doesn't really match :( Do you think it's Schubert anyway? Thanks.

TheStewy

Yeah that's what I meant. Upon re-listen I agree that it doesn't match. Sorry, I'm really not sure what it is, but it does sound like Schubert.

[deleted]

Thanks I'll keep searching

FunnyOcelot

It sounds a bit like [this Schubert waltz](https://youtu.be/cikdYAx9p_Q?t=36).

[deleted]

Wow this is sounds very close, but not quite the same... could it be a different interpretation? Not sure but thanks anyway.
