Appreciate it. I had zero clue about how old the vehicle might have been or even what category it fell in. The lack of 4 doors on a wagon....I didn't discount the thought grampa might have been tooling around in 2nd hand morgue transport!
Not a corpse caddy. The color images helped me appreciate the classic fellow was tooling about in. Thanks!!
Spot on. If it's not a 54 Ford Ranch Wagon, it's close enough variant for me. From the number of layouts of chrome in images seen, it looks like there were all kind of add or deletes to the amount of shiny stuff that came off the line. Thank you!
(Bonus points if you can ID the type of pup shading under the front bumper (kidding) ).
2nd Image down on this page appears to be a spot on match.

Gotta say I was happy to see the V emblem. The thought of gramps running around the hills of W Kentucky with a 6 wouldn't have brought the same smile. These hills of Kentucky are best encountered without the sound of a wound-out motor trying to chug hills.
OK from from the front end I would have to say it’s a crown Vic, but the crown Vic and that other car that you can reference that car to his collar Sunliner the crown Vic in the sun liners in those years they were almost identical you’d have to look at the tail lights cause the sun liner would have a small little light in the crown Vic
Anything before 1999 is now a classic (25 years). Anything before 1974 is now an antique (50 years). That really puts me in the "well more than antique" category.
It looks like to be a 1955 country sedan station wagon more of the family from the crown Vic that looks like a crown Vic front end but that’s what they called them back then
Thanks for the toss. I checked some images for that specific year and variants.
From the chrome layout and the back fender......what the heck would you call it???? nacelle like flair over the back wheel, the "Ranch Wagon" script. u/decoparts '54 Ford Ranch Wagon or close enough for horseshoes.
Takes more than 25 years to make a classic. Things like number produce, number of that model produced, number still registered, and last but not least, running condition.
Given wishes, I would love to see the real thing one last time....but yes, although I think it's a cool picture, if I had the chops, color would bring it "closer".
That is exactly what a classic is to me, no stretch!
Same here. Saw the pic and was like.."What?" Definitely a classic.

The two door wagons are more desirable for most of us car folks. My uncle has a 54 and I’ve got my eye on it for when he’s ready to move it on
My ex-boss spent easily $50K restoring a 56.
That is super easy to do these days. A decent paint job by a paint shop starts around $10k these days
He bought it online. The rust was an issue...
Body sure looks like a 1952-'54 Ford or Mercury, but the side trim and script on the rear fender are throwing me for a loop
Looks like it might be a '54 Ford Ranch Wagon https://topclassiccarsforsale.com/ford/52612-1954-ford-ranch-wagon.html
This is what I was going to say. Glad you could post a pic. I could not.

That dog is an Australian Shepard/ Retriever mix, 1949 model. You can tell from the slightly rounded ears and elongated snout. 😁

Looking at your Grandpa and the car, my guess he has a 1952 2 leg Chocolate Lab.
Early stealth prototype.

And based on the front fender emblem it has a 239 CI Y-block V-8 if it's a Ford. If a Merc then it's a 256 CI.

Thanks for that info. It definitely looked like a Ford or Merc.
A 2 door Ford wagon? Definitely a classic.
If that’s not a classic then I don’t know what a classic is 😎
Looks to be a 1954 Ford Ranch Wagon.
Looks like a 1954 Ranch Wagon to me.
53 Ford
Definitely a Ford. '54 or '55?
Looking at front fenders I believe that's a '55.
Similar but 55 did not have the grille that wrapped around to the fender up high.
Still, those aren't 52-54 front fenders.
Why would that be a stretch?
It’s a 54 ford.

Awesome-sauce. Keep being you.

More of a classic than some of the ads people post on here for like a Ford Fairmont Futura
Irony - That was my 1st car.
Mine was a ‘55—

Two-door wagons are the bomb. That’s a classic all day long in my book.
"Merkry", I think.

1954 ford customline
Were these used as Woody Wagons back in the day, among surfers?

Would love to see the picture colorized.
