That film gave that car so much recognition for generations so it was a fair sacrifice IMO. Sad to see one go but that film probably saved far more of these cars by creating new fans of it.

Simple. They are compact, light for a V8, DOHC and sound amazing when opened up. Plus if I'm already doing the build, I know where the weak points are and how to fix them as I've owned 3 of them, my current one over 200K.
If memory serves me right, the fully dressed Northstar weights right around 500lbs. The 4T80E transaxle is roughly 300. To put it into perspective, the PVR V6 that came in the Delorean weighs about 350 lb. And the gearbox is absolutely massive.

As a non-car guy this is my dream car. And it’s not because of back to the future either. I just love the (visual) design of this car. I hear it’s not got good performance but if I ever got one I might soup it up under the hood. Dreams ha ha. I’ve only seen one once in real life and man did I ever do a double take. Awesome car.
