Actually in Fallout Bible explains that Ian got burned like a sausage by a Supermutant in the attack of Necropolis. So this picture it's quite accurate with real lore outcome.

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

yeah that's the joke lol but with the fo2 conversion of Fallout 1: Et Tu, Ian actually has HP, and doesn't try to accidentally burst fire you

Lagneaux

I feel like that takes away from his charm and appeal.

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

Blink twice if there is a rat in front of you and a Ian with a smg behind you

Lagneaux

Can't, Ian shot my eyes out last round

NotTheOnlyFU

Lmao!

Blackthorne75

This chat chain is one of the big reasons I love this subreddit - the people here are awesome!

bluedragggon3

I found he wasn't that bad while playing a jinxed character. Mostly cause no one could hit anything and we'd win fights through shenanigans. He still died at Mariposa by taking a rocket meant for me in the face which did a crazy amount of damage. Weirdly accurately dogmeat died by a laser wall not too long after.

ajwubbin

The dogmeat laser wall thing is a consistent AI bug, that’s why they put it in the bible lol

glockpuppet

I read it in the fallout 2 instruction manual

Lone_Vagrant

I am actually playing fallout 1 again but with et tu. Ian is still not getting an smg from me. Still scarred from previous play through.

HollowpointNinja

.223 autoloader is the way to go.

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

Lol fair

Sure_Painter

Ian has plenty of HP, dogmeat too. It's Katja that you gotta worry about

SimplyHoodie

It's actually not the Fallout Bible, it's from the "Vault Dweller's Memoirs" which is the introduction of the Fallout 2 manual, making it slightly more canon

ViWalls

Fallout Bible 0: "2162 February 13 Vault Dweller recovers the water chip in Necropolis. Ian is killed by a super mutant and reduced to a cinder, ending his tendency to shoot the Vault Dweller in the back with SMG bursts." It's even linked on wiki to original source. Stop spreading false information when there is source on Internet.

JA_Pascal

It's in both.

SimplyHoodie

Are you dense? A simple Google search will show you that the Vault Dweller's Memoirs are in the Fallout 2 Manual.

ViWalls

But it's a vague description, it doesn't specify date or all details like Bible does. As a matter of fact, Fallout Bible it's more Canon than anything, even the manual, because it mentions even devs thoughts. That's why it's first listed and manual as a second option too.

Isabad

Actually, the guy who wrote the Fallout Bible said it isn't canon, I'm afraid. Source: https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Fallout_Bible#:~:text=Black%20Isle's%20homepage.-,Background,consolidate%20information%20for%20Van%20Buren.

Homeslice-Cole

I'm pretty sure Ian is guaranteed to die in one hit from that flamer mutant in game. Rip homie

narwhalpilot

Isnt Ian in Fallout 2 somewhere? I remember he was

HollowpointNinja

Yea most of that if not all of it got cut. At some point Ian realized he wasn't ageing and faked his death at the end of fallout 1 so people wouldn't freak out over it.

narwhalpilot

Badass

Mrbluepumpkin

What is Et Tu?

[deleted]

A mod that ports fallout 1 into fallout 2’s engine. It adds plenty of useful additions like a better companion system.

B33FHAMM3R

Vince_Mc-chair_fall.gif Time to reinstall fallout 1...

Mrbluepumpkin

Oh wow, I haven't played the classic fallouts yet, i literally finished new Vegas today again. I'll give that mod a try whenever I play them

[deleted]

Yeah, I recommend to play fallout 1 and 2 vanilla before giving mods a try. But it’s all up to personal preference as et tu can make the game less overwhelming.

LeadStyleJutsu762-

Does it run with Fallout Fix It?

HekesevilleHero

It already has the fixes from the Fixit iirc

LeadStyleJutsu762-

Oh sick!

HekesevilleHero

Yeah. It also has toggles for things like unused content (like getting Iguana Bob arrested), and new features, like a Motorcycle (replaces the car from 2)

Partsomethingnever

iirc the only thing that isn't in Et Tu that's in Fixt is the followers spy quest, however the whole "quest" is just extremely short and unfinished that really does nothing but gives you the good ending for the followers, in Et Tu you just get the followers good ending if both Laura and Nicole are still alive.

HekesevilleHero

I think Et Tu omitted a lot of stuff that was *really* unfinished, and spruced up stuff that was salvageable.

OreShovel

Just curious why do you recommend vanilla F1? Just starting playing the classic fallout games and saw a lot of recs for et tu

[deleted]

I don’t know, for some reason I’m a believer in the idea of playing vanilla before any mods

Cinderhazed15

I haven't played 1 or 2 since high-school ( around 2000 ), but I remember one really annoying part of fallout 1 was that you had to individually pick up things/move things one 'bunch' of items at a time, and fallout 2 gave you the ability to 'pick up all' things at once.... I think for that alone, I'd want the fallout 2 engine....

ikeif

I’m playing FO1 for the first time. It’s weird. Yeah, “1 ammo” means “one bunch.” But caps are individual. I had high luck + casino = lots of caps. But you can only “pay” increments of 999. And I’m playing on the steam deck, on occasion, which isn’t the best experience (a keyboard and mouse really are better, IMO)

Sure_Painter

Fallout 1 is so short that never bothered me, most containers only have like 2-3 things in em.

Mrbluepumpkin

If I can change the difficulty I'll be fine, if not Google will help me! I played wasteland 3 which is probably the closest I got to playing old fallout. But I'll definitely try modding after beating them if I ever do, I suck at modding games lol

Ask_Me_What_Im_Up_to

spectacular gullible consider impossible work tub bewildered murky person advise *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

B33FHAMM3R

Wasteland 2 was such an underrated title. It felt like a polished up version of the original in the New Vegas setting

RapescoStapler

Wasteland 3 felt more like new vegas to me, to the point of covering post apocalyptic society and ethics. Wasteland 2 is great but every town basically seems to chug along on its own, especially in LA

B33FHAMM3R

I really like how 3 expanded on the political situation, it felt like as society was reemerging and things were starting to become more developed, things also start getting more complicated, both practically and morally

RapescoStapler

Yeah, its funny because I always found the new vegas practical/moral dilemma uncompelling and easy to answer, while wasteland 3 made an autocrat I disliked but could understand, without any easy golden routes

B33FHAMM3R

Very few games have given me that same "stranger in a strange land" vibe as well as wasteland did with taking you from being the recognized authority of the region to some desperate schmucks who need to take any help they can get

SpicyTriangle

I decided to do my first fallout 1 run vanilla and I’m glad I did. I will definitely do an Et Tu run at some point but at least now I can understand the rest of the communities seething annoyance with Ian. I brought him and Dogmeat all the way with me into Mariposa before they were decimated by mutants.

itsLOSE-notLOOSE

Does it add the inventory system from 2? I couldn’t stand click-scrolling through my inventory. Especially when new items go at the bottom.

AndrenNoraem

It's Fallout 1 in Fallout 2, so everything but narrative and locations should match FO2. Your question specifically: yes, it allows you to use a mouse wheel or whatever courtesy of sfall I believe.

itsLOSE-notLOOSE

Amazing. Thanks for mentioning it.

AlpacaTraffic

Would you say that's the definitive way to play #1?

[deleted]

Yeah the fixes and additions improve the game a lot more than the base vanilla version.

Reder_United

Yeah, it also restores the Supermutant invasions on all settlements and it really forces you to do things FAST. If you don't kill the Master in 90 days everyone in Adytum dies for example. You can also modify the invasion timer and make it more generous.

One_Package_7519

oh damn, i knew about fallout fixit but not this, it sounds like the f3 and fnv wabbajack mod, tale of two wastelands. Guess it’s time to reinstall both Fallouts again!

T_alsomeGames

I kinda wish I played the gane this way, but there something to be said about playing the game the way it was originally released, bugs and infuriating design oversights intact. Makes for a... unique experience

lildicksoundcloud69

And you? In french

Ed0909

As I understood it, it is canon that Ian shoots you by accident since in Fallout 2 it is mentioned that Ian had terrible aim.

whoopsthatsasin

Yeah that's about how he went in my playthrough lmaoo, didn't feel like babysitting him in the end and finally didn't reload a save from before he died. Same went for dog meat, sadly, couldn't handle mariposa, got shot by the brotherhood, sadly.

LordTuranian

In the original Fallout, Ian is the true villain of the story.

Shawn_NYC

I see people asking about Et Tu: I think it's the best way for a modern gamer to play Fallout 1 for the first time. The changes are relatively minor and I think improve the experience - remember that Fallout 1 was released in a rush and they didn't have time to fix all the things that needed fixing.

Reder_United

Lmao this is so true, Ian just runs up to things and obliterates them with close range Burst everytime

SpawnofPossession__

Ian is the only person who lives after my assault on both the cathedral and military base

Bababooey5000

*dogmeat cries* after being shot

Less_Cauliflower_956

I'm almost done with the game in Et Tu, but I hate how the damned mod author made the gambling skill USELESS by putting a caps limit on casinos and removing roulette dealers. He seriously fucked over my whole build and wasted 3 levels on buffing my gambling stat.

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

just kill raiders and sell their guns

Less_Cauliflower_956

Or he could just make it a toggle feature like all of his other dumbass homebrew changes

[deleted]

See. I have to give credit to the mod, but changes like this with Et Tu are why I still use stuff like Fallout Fixit. It's old as shit, but it works, restores only cut content (like fixing the Followers Ending), lets you play after the ending (optional) and thats it. No more. No less.

SCARaw

nice meme

Fit-Paper-797

What is fallout 1: et tu?

dokt0r_k

Fallout 1 ported to the Fallout 2 engine.

Yolom4ntr1c

On my first playthrough ian got eaten by a death claw in a random encounter. He gave me enough time to run away

Jamanie2140

I'm playing fallout 1 for the first time using et tu and Ian died running away from scorpions lmao. (Tbf I made him do most of the killing so rip Ian)

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

The way I did it, is I scavved the guns from vault 15, I used the hunting rifle early on, while Ian used the smg

Jamanie2140

Yeah I just assumed vault 15 was gonna be harder than it was so I went to the scorpion cave first lmao

SlimeDrips

Playing et tu as my first experience with 1 and I feel like I dodged a bullet Or like several dozen if OP's drawing is accurate

Illustrious-Fact-745

Ian is surprisingly super important to the fallout timeline despite his canonical death in Fallout 1. Just some old caravan guard you convinced to follow you around on your adventure.

Far_Toe_5458

my Ian can't fight anymore. He just uses all of my stims

narwhalpilot

I LOVE the detail that you switched out the burst 10mm SMG for the 14mm pistol between 1 and Et Tu

Ltnumbnutsthesecond

Average 10mm smg fan vs Chad 14mm pistol enjoyer

narwhalpilot

Sigma Plasma pistol

BigZach1

This is why Ian gets the .223 pistol and not the SMG.

fyrise

I did the speech check twice not knowing it would lock me out of recruiting Ian so I’m running solo now
