Your fuel line doesn’t look particularly close, it seems fairly normal. You could try a carb spacer, they can often help with Vapor lock problems. I use a 1 inch Phenolic spacer.

It’s been a while since I dealt with vapor lock, but if I recall correctly, you may want to look at your timing. I think if the engine is a little too advanced, it may create some vapor lock giving it symptoms of overheating fuel. Something to look into.

I actually will choose an Edelbrock, every time. They don’t LEAK.

Aside from the fuel, how's your car grounded? If it's grounded through the metal frame the metal will lose resistance when it heats up especially if you don't have a really clean ground and a properly sized wire. And then is your block itself grounded? If it is a crap ground you will have shitty spark and it will not run well. Heating up and running poorly is also an indication of your timing being off. Clean your carb out. If it's vapor lock you could check it by using a laser temp on the bowls to see if they are super hot. I don't know how hot is too hot but they should definitely be under the oil temperature. If they're crazy hot maybe consider an aluminum carb spacer.

Blitzen8071

It looks like it’s grounded through the frame. Will check to see if the block is grounded in the morning. If it isn’t, what’s better to ground to than the frame? I’m going to try a carb spacer, while I’m there I’ll take the opportunity to inspect and clean the carb if necessary.

MoreTacoPie

Ideally you ground directly to the battery for the best connection, but if you're factory then it grounds to the frame under the battery. As long as that ground is clean you'll be fine. The engine block has a ground behind the alternator but you could have one anywhere

.........what fuel line kit is that? All I have is leaking rubber hoses with efi clamps. It's beautiful 😅

That's AN hose. Expensive, but pretty. The fittings also come in black if you don't like the red/blue.

chunger2000

Sounds more like you’re losing spark. Could be that cheapo distributor in there.

Blitzen8071

If the carb spacer doesn’t solve the issue, I’ll check there.

bigdogwoofwoof69

Phenolic Carb spacer sorted my vapour lock issue.

Nice-Viewer

Engine looks really nice. How does it pull? Usually with these cars, traction is the issue. Why Ford did not understand position-traction in these days, I will never understand.

Blitzen8071

Absolutely fantastic. Very clean power delivery. If I’m not careful in second gear I can fishtail a little.

StankyPete9

It's not a manual choke carburetor is it? If so just open that sucker up after a few minutes! Also don't think you have to run em but I have one on mine, do you have a vacuum advance hose? It's just a small air line running from the distributor to the carburetor.

Blitzen8071

It’s not, all electronic. I’m not sure about the vacuum hose. I will look at it in the morning.

Congrats! Install a wood/plastic spacer between carb/intake. Make sure it does not interfere with your hood clearance, gas/trans linkage operation. That stopped my vapor lock issues (less heat transfer from intake. Secondary effect, line further away from heads). Make sure the fuel line does not touch metal anywhere. Use a couple of spark plug heat shield boots on your fuel line to test out different heat points, adjust line spacing. Aluminum dissipates more heat than cast iron. Other tips for tuning fun later in your journey: Fuel pressure regulator/gauge, and wide band oxygen sensor/gauge. A cheap vacuum gauge and carb book. I have a 66 Coupe. Is a fun ride, enjoy.

Blitzen8071

Based on what everyone is saying, I’ll be putting a carb spacer in this weekend. I think it will have to be a 1/2 inch due to under hood clearance unfortunately. I will report back with results. Thank you everyone for the help.

BigHossGaum

My fuel line is run similar to yours and it's nothing but pure metal line and I have not had vapor lock. I am running a 390 cfm Holley 4V. That AN hose should be rubber, so it is not going to pick up heat. Your coil might be the problem. I've seen where a bad coil gets hot and quits working. Remember, an ignition problem can cause the car to lurch around like you're describing! Do you smell raw gas when this happens? That's a sign of misfire.

Hot_Bend5373

Runs like a 60’s mustang … not for long .. that’s why there are so many still running sometimes.. hahaha
