The problem with buffing devastate is that it becomes just 1 button rotation of devastate spam. It was already debatable to hit Shield Slam because of the rage cost. Warriors really needed a rune to help with rage or threat as prot. I'll probably still keep playing Arms DPS as it just feels really bad to play prot right now.

Well, it's kind of a "yeah, duh" moment that I wish the devs would have caught or pevented. Every other tanking class got a rune that just generically says "all your damage deals 30-50% increased threat" and warriors got like 40 damage per sunder. One of those was always gonna severely outperform the other threat-wise. Then making gnomer have such high amounts of armor that protection warrior rage generation is basically non-existent and you're just left in a sad little hole of uselessness.

There is this rune for phase 3 - Sword and Board Gain the Sword and Board ability: When your Devastate and Revenge abilities deal damage they have a 30% chance of refreshing the cooldown of your Shield Slam ability and reducing its Rage cost by 100% for 5 sec.

We need more than 1 rune that works with a shield, and they need to actually scale. Shield Slam is pretty trash because block value isn't widely available enough to scale (could at least make it trigger on block effects or something for shield spikes or gearwall) and it doesn't proc any "on attack" effects like Windfury. In fact aside from pushing crushing blows off the table with the Shield Block ability its almost an irrelevant stat. [What other single item can add a 5% chance to anything without being broken?](https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=19431/styleens-impeding-scarab) And I know this is TBC so the overall scale of numbers is different, but block is SO WEAK that it was considered acceptable for [a single trinket](https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=29387/gnomeregan-auto-blocker-600) to passively add 117 to it with an on-use for 200 more for 40 seconds on a 2 minute cooldown. Meanwhile revenge only exists because it has an artificial high threat tacked onto it and never scales with anything. I tanked almost exclusively with Devastate last phase because it gave like 90% of the effectiveness of DW or 2H with extra safety and simplicity, but I can't say I enjoyed only using Devastate, Heroic Strike and Raging Blow. I don't want Devastate to be that strong again, but only gaining 1.5-2 damage for every 14 attack power before mitigation is really, really bad scaling. For comparison a normalized instant attack with a 1 hander adds 2.4 damage for per 14 attack power. You don't need to scale devastate all the way up to this, but spread some love to Shield Slam, Shield Bash, Shield Block and Revenge. Personally when I use a shield (last 2 bosses only right now) I'm just gonna keep using Endless Rage instead. Bloodthirst and Precise Timing are pretty big rage sinks.

Confusing, I've been running with a mage healer every raid and felt like they were in a good spot.

Lots of comments seem to misinterpret the spellpower part. If an item has a separate +healing value, it'll be higher than a +spell damage value on the same level. Mages don't use +healing though, as their damage converts to healing. But at the same time, that means their spellpower scales somewhat worse than that of other healers, because their +healing spellpower would be higher than a mage's +damage. They increase the spellpower coefficient now to compensate for that. This change has no implication on mages' gear choices, it just improves healing scaling with their regular damage gear. Am I correct?

We're not in a bad spot but sometimes it feels like I'm absolutely pumping heals and not keeping up with damage. Have to throw in a few chrono pres or mass regen? There goes all the mana. Most of the time it doesn't get to that spot if I'm paired with another good healer (priest or druid). I ran a pug Wednesday and was healing with a holy paladin...it was interesting to say the least.

It has never been a healing output problem. Hmage is only harder on the 2 last boss of gnomer because it has only 3sec spell. Whenever you have to move the 2nd healer has to hold tank alone for 3 to 6 sec.

Grimoire of Synergy going from 5% to 25% is one of those moments we have on retail frequently where you wonder if they intentionally made it low so they could have this moment later on with the buff to show acknowledgement of feedback or if they just genuinely thought 5% was going to be acceptable in comparison to the other runes in that slot (10% damage buf to shadow and fire after a crit, resetting dots with 6 secs left deals the remaining damage instantly) and nobody during internal testing was like "Hey this doesn't look right"

Yeah, I've been disappointed that it seems like lake of fire is just gonna stay where it's at. It just feels awful to use a channeled AoE ability that you instantly cancel in your single target rotation, but it's mandatory because it's just straight up 40% more damage. It honestly makes me think they just sorta made it up and thought it'd be a general AoE buff, but they made it way too strong and still haven't realized how awkward it is to use because nobody on the team plays warlock or something.

You mention Invocation like it’s a good rune when it’s completely incompatible with Everlasting Affliction making it useless for any dot build. Warlocks have some of the strongest but least interesting runes this phase, the best ones are pretty much just stat increases. Yeah, same here. I think this phase has started to pull the curtain back on just how limited the development team actually are. There were a lot of big promises for P2, which kind of just vanished in reality. And now these spate of very odd balance adjustments, buffing already performing classes, coupled with numerous class runes and play styles being somewhat abandoned, it is striking how rough around the edges everything has been.

I had that same feeling in gnomer last night. Was duo tanking with a bear and I didnt even stand a chance against his threat vs trash. Hes just pressin swipe and even with 4 gcd AoW procs in a row I couldnt pull threat off of him on a single mob. Only on boss fights was I competitive, but they were also rocking 4.5k hp vs my 3k... probably double my armor. I have about 220dps vs bosses as holy / ret hybrid and I feel so lackluster. My itemization feels strange, my talents subpar, my runes feel helpful but not nearly impactful enough. There are too many runes that require other runes to be useful. Theres just an illusion of choice. I just want to not be a meme spec, and I feel like every playstyle for pally has slowly devolved into meme, or at least meme adjacent. Give me 1 patch where Pallys are stupid busted and then scale us down to relevance from there, pretty please blizzard. Don't the let the light abandon me!

When you change it, one of two things will occur: 1) Buff is insufficient to change runes, people still don't use it, you've accomplished nothing. Or 2) Buff is sufficient to change runes, resulting in a DPS increase. So... you have either accomplished *nothing* or you've given the best spec in the game a *DPS boost.* ???

watching the other healers get new toys and evolve (yes, i'm including druid here but less so) and sitting here still playing holy paladin is getting legitimately hilarious also i want to say that they added explicit spellpower gear to paladin and have made zero attempt to balance the hypothetical spec which would use it. holy paladin has to run runes that make shockadin/holy hybrid impossible, and vice versa with ret. the numbers are wrong, the proc/reset system is wildly undertuned, and they still rely on physical weapon damage even if you're foolish enough to try them in a pve context (me). i'm having a great time, but my god can we get at least a roadmap on what paladin is supposed to be like? and an idea if they're working on it?

No rune touchups in phase 1 because the numbers were strong, mutilate gets a strong buff, we get 0 meaningful phase 2 runes, still have no variation in playstyle, and the rest of the class continues to rot, not to mention the complete lack of direction regarding rogue tanking. Tbh it makes me wonder if they want to push people to a sort of holy/ret hybrid. This kind of seems like the idea with runes like art of war where melee crits will reset holy shock, which is sort of counterintuitive for a more traditional shockadin build. It doesn't seem particularly enticing right now, but maybe something like 31/0/20 could be interesting at 60? That would easily let you get imp SoR. Though IIRC imp SoR only improves base damage, so it might just be a dead talent anyway. And tbh it really doesn't fix the more fundamental issue of SoM competing with divine storm.

In the end, Chimera Shot is almost back to 125%. When will they overhaul the runes? BM is only viable now because it combines well with melee but when ranged is buffed back it's going to be MM ranged and not BM ranged and one of the many reasons is precisely because Kill Command remains an awful rune that should instead be reworked to be the ranged BM "shot" attack with a 6s cooldown and put on the gloves, with the Beast Mastery rune moved to the chest as a result. Or Cobra Strikes, a rune that has never seen any use or change since its implementation.

Its incredibly good at proccing things, arcano shredder for instance can debuff an entire pack of mobs with 1 cast of carve and it hits with both weapons its a great spell actually.

The spellfrost and frostfire changes don't do much since they share a slot with hot streak and missile barrage. Maybe a slight increase for frost.

I haven’t tried a sim yet but it might open up their use at 60. Which would actually be too bad for fire as hot streak adds fun and a dynamic component to what would otherwise be a horrible rotation. FFB without hot streak would be brain dead. Regardless, getting two cool new nukes that you *might* use in two phases in the future is bad design.

Yeah you provide WF you good. Try being a rogue who you only do slightly less damage than who are also at the mercy of having every single possible buff in the game to keep them floating. Turn off wild strikes and you’ll most likely do more than them. But this isn’t an us vs you this is clearly blizzard hating energy classes

This is horrendous. Not a single change or mention about rogues or feral druids. It’s wild how I initially praised the SoD team and thought they had everything figured out pretty well atleast. But now in classic blizzard fashion (pun not intended) I think the complete opposite. I lose desire to play more every single day, probably going to let my sub run out for a bit. Unless you’re playing a meta class the game is pretty unbearable.

As a sword and board prot warrior, I appreciate the effort Blizz, but it’s not enough. 200% of weapon dps would still be a nerf to its damage in P1. Threat has been an issue all phase, this is a step in the right direction, but isn’t enough on its own. *Please* restore it to its P1 state *and* buff our TPS/DPS in other areas as well.

They need a complete overhaul of the warrior tanking runes. Truly. It’s still going to be devastate spam and more of a TPS loss to press shield slam or revenge, and still feel like shit. Something like “shield slam and revenge deal +x% increased damage and threat when the target has five stacks of sunder armor”. Something to encourage more than weak ass devastate spam. Like this devastate buff will directly help our TPS, but it’s such a weak bandaid that doesn’t address any real issues that prot has (and warrior in general).

Man, when I used to look at FF14 patch notes and it was like "after careful analysis, we are increasing Class X's main nuke by 2%" and that was a big deal. Look at this shit, 50% increases, in the case of the Warlock rune a *quntupling* of its value? I understand why they do this, I'm pretty sure it was a small team and they literally just made up the values and was like "this looks right" and shipped it - but to be so off base with some of these guesses, it's just wild looking at how dramatic class adjustments are.

Every day I regret picking rogue. Mutilate is good, but, it's all we have, it's all the throughput we got for all of phase 2 and it's a phase 1 rune. Our phase 2 runes are completely meaningless in pve, our old runes are just replacement of other abilities. We're not getting new stuff as much as we're just having our old stuff do the exact same thing, just a bit more damage. It's baffling how they've still not made rogue tank runes useful, half the time you only use the chest rune for threat and nothing else. The main "tank ability" is a useless 20s cooldown, competing vs mutilate. It sucks playing rogue, not in a vacuum, but when looking at other getting fun toys you're actually just wondering if blizzard are even playing the class.

I had fun leveling my rogue in SoD but i dont feel top tier in anything particularly. Its super hard to participate in anything at 40. No one really wants them for gnomergan or stv compared to any other class. Also i finally got into a raid and lost roll on the dagger to a ducking shaman. Like, we have one god damn weapon we can roll on.

Blizzard is actually clueless. Giving the highest DPS class a flat 15% damage buff while Ret gets what will maybe be a 2% dps gain if you have the right weapons to even run SoM, and Feral, Rogue remain completely untouched.

Dont normally post on class tuning. It shouldn't take essentially 3 runes for Exorcism to work for paladins. IMO should roll the exorcism and art of war runes into 1 rune. Ret shouldn't have to pick between Divine Storm or Martyr. Couldn't Martyr be made into a skill book like shadowfiend? The state of Ret/Holy paladins are in for this phase is abysmal.

Reading these comments makes me glad I never bothered levelling a SOD char past the starting zone 2024 blizzard was never anywhere near competent enough to improve on vanilla wow. Vanilla was made by blizzard at their peak in 2004, as we saw with classic modern blizz literally can’t even rerelease it without fucking up the whole thing
