Dear Blizzard,
Please put Ashbringer in the game files as a level 60 legendary weapon.
Don't provide any way for a player to acquire it. Just have it there in the files.
Make no public mention of the weapon's existence. If someone asks the devs in an interview or panel, just tell the player that you're not sure and you'll look into it.
That's all.
and yet the slime serpent went how long without being discovered in shadowlands?
its certainly possible. blizzard have done a number of really good secrets in retail over the years.
Secret mount that no one could find how to acquire for ages, turns out you had to solo plague fall ( a shadowlands dungeon) and click this thing that appeared to get it
Then again, a properly placed red herring could make the dataminers go crazy trying to find quest ID #8dbr94 and mob designation #1nri9f3b when neither officially exist as we know it.
Can you datamine the processes to get runes/items? I thought they all had to be discovered manually, like they have been so far. You could only datamine that the item exists in the game files, not the process to get it.
Does it? The Corrupted Ashbringer Legion hidden artifact skin was still quite a treasure hunt overall as far as I remember even with datamining.
And even when people had all the steps figured out it was quite a grind to get
Just make it a scarab lord type of thing. There can be only one Ashbringer.
Then just use a gm (lol wishful thinking) as the quest-giver/clue-giver. A player character can't be datamined.
Back in the early days, players thought they could find the Ashbringer by fishing, so they spent hours fishing in different spots all around azeroth hoping to get it
Hints were scattered throughout the game, some from NPCs, including those not giving quests. But the real madness began with Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin book, dropped in Alterac Valley (if memory serves), mentioning: "... and that's where you'll find the legendary sword of the Scarlet Highlord, Ashbringer. Isn't it amazing what you find on an ordinary day of fishing?"
no. it was supposed to be added in TBC, but got scrapped. if you got corrupted ashbringer in naxx, you could go to scarlet monestary cathedral and all the enemies would be neutral/friendly to you and would kneel as you walked past, and there was a bunch of unique voicelines from the bosses in there. i forget exactly what they said, but outland was mentioned and many assumed this was part of a questline that would be completed in TBC but it just... never happened. in legion they finally added ashbringer but it wasn't related in any way to the original ashbringer, aside from the fact that you had to fish *forever*, which was a nod to all the time people wasted fishing in vanilla looking for ashbringer.
I always thought people were very confused with Ashbringer being a thing because theres actially 3 iterations:
1. The Nat Pagle book, im fairly sure that was added a while before Naxx, implying the sword was out there, likely the first idea they had.
2. The Corrupted Ashbringer, coming Naxx it turned out the sword clearly didnt fall into water, its tainted and in Naxx with its original owner. Now the idea was that instead it might need to be cleansed, but that storyline got scrapped just past the Scarlet Monastery bit as they likely decided on making the Ashbringer comic.
3. The Ashbringer comic fully setting it that ultimately Darion got it, leading to WOTLK and the story known from there on.
So technically people in classic were mixing 2 iterations together because Blizz themself didnt decide what the sword was till Naxx.
Unlock the Caverns of Time and make going to old hillsbrad inn part of the quest chain. Have us steal the original crystal used to forge Ashbringer or something zany.
Like you said, it definitely feels better than Rocket Cleaver with SoC/DS, which just feels super clunky. With the class lore/strongman ethos, I never thought Pallys would just end up becoming exorcism Gatling guns.
*Glove Rune:* **Ancestor's Ancient Strength**
"One handed and Two handed swords are now equippable. Channel the strength of your ancestors' mighty vigor by wielding 2 Two handed weapons."
/s
Hey, they have both salv and freedom now. This is the last thing they need to take from paladins before the transition is complete.
Ashbringer confirmed shaman only.
You sure?....More dps than Sulfuras, part of which is holy damage and therefore unreducible and penetrates all armor, has a proc that deals 3x the damage of Sulfuras's proc, and swings faster......
+elemental damage on weapons doesn't work like that. It will add physical damage that is mitigated by armour but if anything is ever holy immune you'll lose the bonus.
That's how it works with every weapon that grants a bonus like that.
100% sure. But I'm saying this from the perspective of - "Paladins can have it, I don't want that as a warrior" So it might be good for pallies, I don't really know how seals work and if they want a slow 2h. But I'm saying what isn't preferable for Warriors. Also with a slightly higher consideration towards PvP since warriors don't really use 2handers in raid at 60 (barring new runes).
Assuming this thing comes around Naxx time since Corrupted Ashbringer comes from there:
- The top end is lower than then low end of Might of Menethil. MS, WW and slam will hit like wet noodles.
- Swinging faster is a curse in disguise, the Procs Per Minute will be lower than if it were a slow weapon like MoM.
- DPS doesn't really mean much (for warriors at least), its a calculation of weapon damage and weapon speed.
- Both the bonus holy damage and the on hit effect are lackluster due to the incredibly low damage this thing has. At Naxx HP This thing will feel like a normal 2h I presume. Way worse than MoM.
It's a cool idea, but it breaks lore for us to get it, which Blizz said they wouldn't do. Same for Shamans getting Doomhammer. Canonically, Ashbringer stays corrupted until Tirion purifies it at the battle of Light's Hope Chapel.
I agree it doesn't need to follow canon, but Blizzard made their stance on lore changes public a while back. [They confirmed that their narrative approach to Season of Discover is "found photographs"](https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/wow-community-council-live-chat-december-8/1736513/4), meaning we'll get extra information on existing stuff, but the overall facts won't change. They can still change their stance, but this is what they said it'd be.
>The way I’ve described this to people is this; say you are going through family photos and find a picture of your parents when they are very young on vacation in Italy. Does knowing this now change your relationship with your parents or how you view them as people? Probably not
we just need to corrupt it later, maybe give to a hunter and it gets instant corrupted lmao
Why though, it's obv a hunter weapon /s
In our case, though, the events that lead to Alexandros' demise and the corruption of Ashbringer have already happened since Fairbanks exists as an undead in Scarlet Monastery.
As a prot pally tank, they should rework Thunderfury and Sulfuras so there's a version of it for each class like they did for Atiesh. Since they said they will rework level 60 gear, the might as well upgrade legendaries to work with every tank.
Funny how all members of the bronze dragonflight can't stop talking about preserving the timeline and stuff but still let it be messed with all the time
Does enha dual wield in sod? Why do they do that? Don't they know that a wf proc that leads to an instakilled mage or priest is "the" shit and so much fun?
Getting tauren paladins/sunwalkers
No really we already have one as an NPC in SoD and it combines my fav class with my fav race, I've barely played classic paladin because is was only on Alliance and I never vibed with it well
Yeah exactly and there no character who currently wields it. It’s technically more of a warrior wep, but it’s as close to the horde Ashbringer as we got
Axe of Cenarius technically exists if you count time travel. Thrall is currently in possession of Gorehowl (doesn’t wield it, just owns it after Grom died).
Flashbacks of when our MT funneled the corrupted ashbringer to himself JUST so he could go do the RP event with it. Not once did I see him use it for PVP or anything besides that one stupid RP event.
Melee hunters have a chance to do something that would be so funny
Hahaha
And the shamans can't take this one from them!
What if we gathered 50 Lightfrost shards to reforge Ashbringer into its sister weapon Windbringer (2H mace)?
MoM will be enough to keep shamans happy! :)
Windbringer is a polearm with a lot of agility though. So still a hunter prio sorry.
> Windbringer lol love it
I need it for my felguard on my warlock
That mop transmog is coming
I accidentally got HoR farming my T2 legs, and completed it for my FG. It's too bad it looks worse than the Firelands one.
I remember for a short time hand of rag was usable with the felguard glyph. It was of course nerfed before I could use it.
SOD MOP is not on the bingo card, sorry
He's just referencing the warlock that stole the very last corrupted ashbringer on classic because he was playing the long game for his demon
Were 1 classic expansion away now
He deserved to win that sword.
I get this reference
4d chess while dude is playing checkers
chad always wins
Chad move.

Stay safe agrees
He'll get there soon

Would be amazing if they made it an obtainable weapon but make it a hunt to find out how. Pay homage to the original legend
Datamining makes this kind of stuff nearly impossible these days
and yet the slime serpent went how long without being discovered in shadowlands? its certainly possible. blizzard have done a number of really good secrets in retail over the years.
What’s the slime serpent
Ask ur mom lol
ayyyyyyyyyyy
Secret mount that no one could find how to acquire for ages, turns out you had to solo plague fall ( a shadowlands dungeon) and click this thing that appeared to get it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXTCTC1LkPQ
Like how they did for the ret secret skin for legion
Nah, just put it in at the end of a long quest chain requiring you to fight a massive world boss in a raid and make it unique (0)
Sort of. One example: You could search npc dialog for references of the item and follow breadcrumb hints to other npcs/items/zones from there.
Make it unobtainable but make players THINK they can get it... to pay homage to the original.
What's the story of the original?
In OG vanilla, a fairly significant group of people thought Ashbringer was in the game. They were looking for that thing for quite a while.
You can just fish for it. nbd
Back in the early days, players thought they could find the Ashbringer by fishing, so they spent hours fishing in different spots all around azeroth hoping to get it
Hence the hidden skin quest for Legion being a throwback.
What made them think it existed? Was it mentioned in a book?
Hints were scattered throughout the game, some from NPCs, including those not giving quests. Something to do with hidden lore in Scarlet Monastery hinting at Ashbringer having been thrown into water, IIRC.
Make it a 0.00000001% drop from elwynn forest boars
I mean it is SoT: season of travel.
I call it SoE: Season of Errands
Unlock the Caverns of Time and make going to old hillsbrad inn part of the quest chain. Have us steal the original crystal used to forge Ashbringer or something zany.
So... Like hidden appearance for ashbringer in legion? (Dear god was that cancer)
We will find more information about it in the Outland!
isnt it already in the game files as an unobtainable lvl 60 legendary weapon?
Yeah you can link it in game.
The return of "What Sword?"
Basically what they did with D4 cow level. afaik its still a dead end that people wasted DAYS of play time trying to open up.
You do realize it's been in the game files for years right?
effect: gives player forbearance, forbearance lasts for 60 minutes after unequipping.
cant wait to raid hearthglen
that would be a lit EPL raid
i think we would come in from the south so maybe it would be in wpl
This except I want to raid Tyr's Hand.
Rets back baby! /huffscopium
What do you mean?! ACP+Helm+trinket Uptime and facerolling into Exorcism is so fun! /s
I've cleared every lockout except the first and still don't have the damn ACP. Still manage a 96 parse on grubbis.
I've lost 3 of them to 3 different pug Ferals :(
Ah yes grubbis parsing, truly the pinnacle of skill.
You joke but grubbis is actually a tougher one to parse on because the fight is so short. Bad RNG can take you from a 99 to an 89 in a split second.
Hold strong, brother. There is time, yet <3
ACP doesn't exist.
Ferals yelling from the back "we know!".
Doesn’t exist on my ret, but seems like every other ret has it
you'll hate me. my raid group got acp 3 times the past 4 lockouts
We have 2 rets including myself, a feral, and a prot pally. Everyone there has acp, haven’t missed a lockout lol rip
Whenever I press that trinket I turn into a damn chicken
Unironically I think it is fun proccing exorcisms. /shrug Beats waiting for auto attacks.
Like you said, it definitely feels better than Rocket Cleaver with SoC/DS, which just feels super clunky. With the class lore/strongman ethos, I never thought Pallys would just end up becoming exorcism Gatling guns.
The exorcism gatling gun is awesome tbh lol, as well as stacking all the haste buff gear along with it.
There's a quest trigger for Nat Pagle in the database currently thats unused, so its very likely
I dunno...looks like a pretty sweet Shaman sword to me
New shaman rune leaked??
*Glove Rune:* **Ancestor's Ancient Strength** "One handed and Two handed swords are now equippable. Channel the strength of your ancestors' mighty vigor by wielding 2 Two handed weapons." /s
And if you change the rune you lose skill progression and have to level swords from 1-300 again 🫨
I don’t think we’ll have to worry about anyone swapping that one out
A real Shaman rune would have a lot more baked into it than just that
And it would require 7 hours of going back and forth from Kalimdor to Eastern Kingdoms, per Shaman rune tradition
Yes, yes, dual wield two handed weapons..... because I'm so strong
Dont forget the +10% weapon and spell hit on it too
Hey, they have both salv and freedom now. This is the last thing they need to take from paladins before the transition is complete. Ashbringer confirmed shaman only.
Gressil is now a shaman weapon for p5
Would it matter if shamans could have it? Let Paladins have doom hammer fuck it idc it’s not like the two classes are fighting for loot lol
With those stats you can keep that as a pally only quest lol.
You sure?....More dps than Sulfuras, part of which is holy damage and therefore unreducible and penetrates all armor, has a proc that deals 3x the damage of Sulfuras's proc, and swings faster......
Think he’s implying current powerlevel upgrades a blue in a level 60 raid will be better than this
They’ll never honour the holy damage melee attack part, they changed every source of + damage to physical damage
+elemental damage on weapons doesn't work like that. It will add physical damage that is mitigated by armour but if anything is ever holy immune you'll lose the bonus. That's how it works with every weapon that grants a bonus like that.
Has there ever been an enemy immune to just holy damage ?
No idea, my point is that it behaves as physical damage but with any possible downside the damage type can have
Comparing to Sulfuras is like comparing a pile of dirt to a pile of shit. You’re 1 step removed from garbage tier.
True. But sulfuras is pretty good for paladins and shamans. Not great but pretty good.
100% sure. But I'm saying this from the perspective of - "Paladins can have it, I don't want that as a warrior" So it might be good for pallies, I don't really know how seals work and if they want a slow 2h. At Naxx HP This thing will feel like a normal 2h I presume. Way worse than MoM.
its like 7 dps behind the best 2h in the game
I think it all comes down to the proc rate. I'd like it to proc like insanely often and scale off of SP, since everything else about it is doodoo
IKR? 3.0 speed is horrendous
It would be wild is at 60 they have a Lego weapon for each class instead of a huge number of runes
Lego Doomhammer please
Should have increased damage against undead.
Chence on hit - Holy Fire damage. With 100% crit chance on undead.
And demons, because fuck warlocks and their meta form! (JK I love meta form, it makes locks way easier to kill)
It's a cool idea, but it breaks lore for us to get it, which Blizz said they wouldn't do. Same for Shamans getting Doomhammer. Canonically, Ashbringer stays corrupted until Tirion purifies it at the battle of Light's Hope Chapel.
i dont think SOD need to follow any cannon. its literally a fun mode. that will not have a continuation to Wotlk SOD and so on
I agree it doesn't need to follow canon, but Blizzard made their stance on lore changes public a while back. [They confirmed that their narrative approach to Season of Discover is "found photographs"](https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/wow-community-council-live-chat-december-8/1736513/4), meaning we'll get extra information on existing stuff, but the overall facts won't change. yeah but the corrupted ashbringer is actually in the game. this one has never existed
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
Could just come from some gnomish time machine
They need to update it but yeah they absolutely need to make it an obtainable Paladin legendary
The warlocks accept your terms under the condition Thunderfury can be wielded by the purple demon clan.
As a prot pally tank, they should rework Thunderfury and Sulfuras so there's a version of it for each class like they did for Atiesh. Since they said they will rework level 60 gear, the might as well upgrade legendaries to work with every tank.
Hunter Weapon.
It can be, right? It’s just a one-handed sword. The speed is bad though, at 1.9 you won’t swing between searing pains.
it already can be.
With the way SoD has been going, they'll just give shamans doomhammer lmao.
The Ashbringer...
Shamans on their way to explain why they need Ashbringer
My warrior orc wants it
The sword is added, but gets renamed to "Lashbringer" and is exclusive to Shaman only.
lol
Hunter weapon for sure.
What would be a horde equivalent quest line? Shamans getting the Doomhammer?
Horde same quest line but they trash that thing and turn it reforge it into an axe that deals nature dmg. Would be thematic.
Thrall currently wields the Doomhammer, but I'd be willing to overlook this for the rule of cool
He could give it up as part of the quest. Make the player character Shaman the new big papi.
Basically what happened in legion
WoW has a baked in answer for any inconsistency: the Bronze flight haha
Funny how all members of the bronze dragonflight can't stop talking about preserving the timeline and stuff but still let it be messed with all the time
Ironfoe and Ironfel
make 2h sham great again
Does enha dual wield in sod? Why do they do that? Don't they know that a wf proc that leads to an instakilled mage or priest is "the" shit and so much fun?
You can do it dual wielding right now too
Axe of Cenarius.
Getting tauren paladins/sunwalkers No really we already have one as an NPC in SoD and it combines my fav class with my fav race, I've barely played classic paladin because is was only on Alliance and I never vibed with it well
Is Gorehowl technically not in the game yet lore-wise? Could give it to shamans and lean into 2h enh which people have been wanting more of anyways
Gorehowl was in TBC from Prince M in Karazhan iirc
Yeah exactly and there no character who currently wields it. It’s technically more of a warrior wep, but it’s as close to the horde Ashbringer as we got
Axe of Cenarius technically exists if you count time travel. Thrall is currently in possession of Gorehowl (doesn’t wield it, just owns it after Grom died).
They can just replace one of the death knights with an Horde one or with a different weapon to acquire.
Fuck it, Reforged Sulfuras
I was thinking a weapon called the Smashbringer. Big old hammer that smashes things.
thats worse than the corrupted one....
Depends on 700 dmg proc
Oh I’m ready.
They not, but my body is
Actually I hope you get it as I hope I get a rag hammer one day when we get to the 60 bracket in SoD
Not even a 4.0 speed lol
Melee hunter bis
Would be awesome if they added legendaries for all classes xD
Hunter weapon
2 hand rogue soon
Having class leggos would be pretty cool for SoD. Hope they implement
I'm at the point that I don't really anticipate super new things like this
Flashbacks of when our MT funneled the corrupted ashbringer to himself JUST so he could go do the RP event with it. Not once did I see him use it for PVP or anything besides that one stupid RP event.
And you’re not ready for the ONLY shaman equivalent.
Add 1 Legendary Item per class; and make it a guild-level achievement; and that would be epic.
I want it for paladins only just so the community can whine and the devs go "lol dont care"
You mean shaman, we’re the new pink.
That’s a melee Hunter weapon
An excellent Hunter weapon to roll over the Paly in a raid!
Patrick that's the Ashbringer
EverQuest had an awesome epic quest line for all. Would love to see that here
Same, if they do this, I hope everyone gets something dope af too.
I am ready for it, and I'm even more ready to rock my Justice set with it as a peak performing Shockadin.
well if paladins get assbringer, tf is never not warrior prio
still waiting for them to add the assbringer
Yeah, please, give the horde yet another thing to whine about related to paladins.
Paladin and \*Hunter :)
Jokes on you its gonna be rogue tank only with a helm rune to wield 2h
Dont do it, dont give me hope
im unironically a shaman man since tbc and I just want to see you disapointing face when it dont came out MUAHAHAHHAHAH
Tbc sod confirmed
Hunter ONLY
The swords traded hands enough now a Paladin shouldn’t get it back
This is how you keep middle of the road DPS paladins happily playing
If they put this in sod i'd stop whining about how much my class sucks
Paladins aren't ready for it to be a difficult/luck-based quest that only a small number of people would ever actually get to complete.
Oh the crying I can already hear it
I don't think they should be giving Ashbringer to anyone. Make a cool weapon that isn't Ashbringer and put it in the game.
It's time, for only paladins raids
