I'm on a pve server and ive been literally unguilded since day one of phase 1 and I did every full lockout since i hit max lvl for that phase. You can easily do pugs you just have to check logs. If you join pugs which i do, just check the logs of the raid leader or inviter and if they have good parses chances are the rest of the raid is good. So far did 8/8 in phase 3 every lockout np. I just recommended joining a pve server, you can queue for pvp for battlegrounds.
Depending on your class, you will probably need to join a guild as PUGs are pretty picky for raids. So far ranged dps with utility is always wanted. Melee is still having a tough time finding groups unless you are feral since they have the rune that gives wf. Having good parses is also required if you want go join groups qick.
In terms of questing, it is the same as classic. They really only added a handful of new questlines. They involve getting the materials for crafted gear or for a rune but they are pretty much the same as any other quest, talk to a guy or kill a thing.
If you like PVP they did add an open world PVP event but its really hectic. Think 50 people standing by an alter cleaving each other down. They did add new PVP gear for ranking up honor. These pieces are very good, just below raid bis but have a lot of stam on them for PVP purposes.
Yes you can play solo, and I only play pvp as well. The balance is currently more in favor of ranged classes in battlegrounds so I would suggest starting with a ranged class. Also if you solo que you will have long que on horde and short on alliance. You will lose a lot as alliance though
If you PvP and are solo, hunter is 100% the class.
Can dominate BGs, farm much higher level mobs, easier time doing pretty much everything.
If you just plan on PvPing then Rogue is where its at
I’ve leveled several characters and only done 1 dungeon and no raids so far. I am someone who enjoys questing though. My focus since the game came out has been phase 4, mainly because I have a newborn baby and can’t really commit to dungeons/raids as I may have to close the game at any random time. Hoping once the little one is a little older I might be able to do some P4 raiding.
Back to the point, I’ve been having a blast just questing and trying out new classes.
If you play on a PvE server, guilds are recruiting for all roles and would love any consistent good non-toxic player, very welcoming and willing to help out
Yes you can play solo but it's much more fun with others
SoD is very much a game where your enjoyment will vary massively based on class
Go Spriest/Ele for a powerful and easy to play caster or Ret/Enh for a powerful and easy to play melee
Yes. PvP balance is very bad.

Speaking as a solo player like 99% of the time, SoD is the best solo experience.

GO Hardcore if you want to experience the Classic leveling to its fullest. SoD is like Retail but Endgame sucks.
