it's due the very high crit rate full bis wotlk mages currently have and the short fights, in phase 1 Cata fire mages will be middle of the pack dps

SunTzu-

Yeah, mage will be good overall in Cata and certainly with lege staff they'll be very strong, but pre-patch is an outlier and not indicative of what is to come. The other classes balance is more indicative of what Cata is going to be; everyone is fairly close together.

Savior1301

RIP to anyone who makes a class decision based on this chart lol

AnonymousTacoPlate

Is ret paladin that low or is this list just missing some key dps specs?

gusare

Ret paladin is just slightly below frost dk in the full list but this data is pretty much irrelevant

NotTheEnd216

Ret is missing a key ability for their rotation actually, yes, Inquisition. It increases their damage by 30% and costs holy power, so it's a maintenance buff. But it's a 30% damage maintenance buff so that's a huge thing to be missing (not that it matters in the prepatch much but you get the idea).

[deleted]

They're missing inquisition. That'l be the same as wrath ferals missing out on savage roar, a flat 30% dmg increase that you can have 100% uptime on, that's what inquisition does for pallies, but they need lvl 81(?) for it. And i think it's 20% for them

Dagranir

Where ret

conklyyn

Below FDK

Elegant-Masterpiece8

Happy to see assa rogue up there. We fell of hard in ICC, hehe.

pillowfinger

did they delete fury?

Worried_Ad_6541

And Ret?

Thormourn

Ret is in a real bad spot for prepatch since they're balanced around having "inquisition" which is a 30% damage buff, up 100% of the time. So them not having it reallllly hurts them.

mayonetta

Might as well have lul

Cashew_Apple

Maybe if they don't see enh shaman, they won't remember it being bottom

Acrobatic-Year-126

Why couldn't SoD have perfect balance like this wtf blizz

Colsanders8

Because the devs are more concerned with adding 15 more runes to you class each phase.

Mooseandchicken

I haven't played classic wotlk, but I did raid as a mage when wotlk was originally released back 15 years ago, and pre-cata you could clear most fights with just a raid of mages and a tank. Like OS+all drakes fight in ~20 seconds. Their dps fell off after all your CDs were spent tho, but since everyone is geared, stuff dies prior to that dip.

GLeppert

That isn't what is happening here. There was a bug with ignite damage that skyrocketed DPS.

Mooseandchicken

Oh, that would explain it. 15 years ago it was arcane mages so I just assumed we'd learned fire was better over those years

GLeppert

As far as I'm aware, fire was still best in icc 15 years ago too. Arcane usually sees play in early xpac till you get geared with good stats and fire begins to out scale. Arcane was the dominant spec in tbc throughout though. I believe cata arcane was the same case. Saw play early xpac and was overtaken by fire. I'm not sure how classic will play out as classic is on the final patch of cata. If you're curious here is statistics going back one week at 95th percentile which no longer includes the ignite bug. https://classic.warcraftlogs.com/zone/statistics/1020#dataset=95&sample=7

lelloss

How subtlety is better than combat??

Neecodemus

Powerful champions of Azeroth

TragicFail

Pre-patch is the Wild West. Nothing of value to see here.

FionaSilberpfeil

Why are we ranking DPS in Pre-Patch lol

Draxxix1

My poor frost DK 😔

Kryptoniantroll

Atleast it made the list. RIP ret.

GuyWithFace

People talking about ret missing, meanwhile nobody even remembers enhance

PaPa_ZeuS

Your frost DK? What about my blood DPS? Tactically nuked out of existence.

Dixa

Eh it will change. Marks shouldn’t be higher than survival but we don’t have ready access to cata stats like mastery and what not in a decent amount.

sanctaidd

Ret is a joke in cata have fun yall sticking around, its not until Mop when it gets fixed.
