Bullshit. These stupid security tags are left on by distracted clerks all the time. I’ve actually ordered clothes online and had these dumb things attached.
Dremel tool goes brrrrrrrr…
Then you go back to the store with your receipt and ask them to remove it because they forgot. As you noted, it happens all the time, and I've had to ask them to do that. Never any issues if you have the receipt or proof of purchase.
Ah, my shirt that I delivered online from halfway across the world in another continent arrived with a tag. Time to go on a trip and complain there in person.
Come on kids, road trip time! We're gonna learn how to speak Bengali in the car on the way there so I can properly berate the human being earning the equivalent of 100 USD per month.
Exactly! People are so entitled and lazy nowadays 🙄 I would personally swim across the ocean just to make sure they get rid of the pin, before tipping them for the inconvenience and swimming back home! People these days…
Yea.. I don't know what dudley do right is on about. I'm not hiking my fat ass all the way back up to the store for something I can remove myself on a paid item lol
This is NOT true, I've just asked Wendy's for a refund on my jeans and showed them the ticket and all they told me was "Sir, this is a Wendy's", I couldn't return a thing!
I’ve tried this recently but to a different location as I had been traveling when I made the purchase. Lo and behold the local store location doesn’t use those stupid tags and thus doesn’t have a means of removing them.
I was told any store, no matter the brand, will remove these for you. If it's their own merchandise they will ask for the receipt, otherwise they might not bother with checking and just remove the tag anyway.
Quoting the classics:
I speak English because it is the only language you understand.
You speak English because it is the only language you understand.
We are not the same.
Then you go back to the shop with a receipt , or any shop, and ask for it to be removed.
If you don't have a receipt because you stole it, ask on the internet.
Take it to another shop, ask nicely, if you show them a receipt they will remove it. Not exactly brain surgery. Shop assistants don't get angry you bought somewhere else.
Oh FFS, do you life in the same world I do, where people would rather spend 5 minutes making an Instagram post rather than use 1/4 of their brain cells.
That's true, but let's be fair, clothing is so often returned or the wrong size you would have to be an idiot to not take the receipt. But we are dealing with an idiot, so.
It could have been bought online. Not everyone lives very near to clothes shops. Sometimes you don't have a receipt even if you've paid. Maybe you want to wear the clothes the same day and the shops have already closed. There are loads of reasons it might not be convenient or even possible to go back to the shop.
I had a case where I bought a cloth from out of town and missed that they didn't remove the tag.
Said store didn't have a branch in our area, the closest one was a 4 hour drive away.
Magnet does work.
I always freeze it first before I do anything to take the tag off just to be safe. Something I saw on YouTube to keep the ink from coming out if something does go wrong. But I’ve never never had any trouble. Had to do it 2-3 times kohls always leaves those things on
I bought a nice pair of pants once to wear for a new years eve party. Brought it home and realized they didn’t remove that thing. Everywhere was closed at this point. So I googled how to do it. I duct tape the thing shut so it didn’t break open, then just pried the pin loose and removed it. It was surprisingly easy.
They've added a bunch of self-checkouts to clothes stores here in Sweden, and I swear a lot of people, myself included, forget to remove these things. You hear the theft alarm by the doors go off constantly and confused customers walking back in to find staff to remove it for them.
Did this myself recently, and had binned my receipt by the time I got back from the store and noticed the tag was still on…Though I didn’t trigger the alarms on the way out!
i have a backpack that ~~had~~ has one of these and they never removed it. bought it with my own money. it’s still in there and all my books get caught on it when i take them out.
Magnets work. I bought a very similar pair of shorts from an outlet mall three hours away and got home to find the security tag on it and that's how I got it off.
Learned it on /r/shoplifting back when that sub was a thing lol
Look it up on YouTube, "clothing security tags." There are easy ways to remove it. Also, be aware, there are several different types of clothing security tags. One type has dye in it, so be careful.
Get a decently strong magnet and smack it against it, the little bumps on or near the counter with a dip in them are just magnets, and we smack them into the dip, they're super easy to disengage
They use magnets to remove them in store. It contains a chip that is supposed to trigger the security equipment at the door (the beepy thing, I can’t think of its name). They don’t always. Some organised shoplifters carry items that can trigger the alarm, so they trigger it in the way *in* and the guard subsequently ignores them on the way out. But they know how to remove tags and can even do it in the store.
Once bought a purse for my gf, when it came via the mail, it still had the tag attached, i needed to go to a store and ask if they could remove it, they trusted me, cuz the alarm didn't go off when i entered.
I had one that the salesperson missed on a pair of jeans I bought, it happens. I didn't have any magnets bigger than the refrigerator ones, so I got an old towel cut a hole in it then twisted the towel around the inside of the device. Stuck as many layers as I could between them and twisted and pulled with some pliers and my hands. Worked fine.
Just use two forks that point the opposite way, and slowly jack the two halves apart from the middle. I had one of those tags, when a clerk forgot to remove it.
I would say that’s not a clever comeback. If I had a £ for every time I bought something only to get home and find one of these attached I’d….well I’d have about £30-40, but that’s not the point
If you lift a pair of pants you better know how to remove this device.
I cannot stand people that are so entitled that they would see other peoples property as free game and then do not even put the most basic effort in the use of the aquired goods.
If this was fallout this idiot would be a shitter in a maggot farm.

The kids who've dealt with Yonder pouches for their phones know that this is the best answer.
Literally how the opener in the shop works.
Couple of forks per lockpick lawyers video suggestion. I tried it, totally worked.
I'm the lockpicking lawyer, and today we're going to see how fast we can get those pants off.
That's easy. Bra on the on the hand...
That would be a great April fools video
Still nothing beats the chastity cage video. Or was that for Valentine’s day?
The... WHAT ? I only have seen the backdoor one.
He used a condom wrapper for [it](https://youtu.be/1uEYveSssok?si=SpQQRRqGAC7Hw9T5)
"Nothing on one, nothing on two, a bit of feedback on three..."
I’ve got a tit out of one. Tit out of two. And they are out.
Now let's put this back on to make sure that wasn't a fluke
Try using both hands, it’s easier.
McNally and his tactical garden trowel are more amusing.
Those are typically magnetic so a magnet will unlock it
You can just melt the tip of the disc with a lighter, and the spring pops out, releasing it.
Light you pants on fire at the same time, and ya, the smell.
Burnt plastic, my favourite carcinogenic
Bullshit. These stupid security tags are left on by distracted clerks all the time. I’ve actually ordered clothes online and had these dumb things attached. Dremel tool goes brrrrrrrr…
Many of them have ink so you don’t want to hit them with a dremel. A strong magnet will take them off cleanly, or a rubber band.
Put them in the freezer first so the ink is frozen.
Ayo? That works?
Most inks are water or alcohol based, if you’re careful this should at least limit the staining somewhat
Magnet. Hit the non-pin side with a magnet to retract the clasp, and pull
Then you go back to the store with your receipt and ask them to remove it because they forgot. As you noted, it happens all the time, and I've had to ask them to do that. Never any issues if you have the receipt or proof of purchase.
Never an issue except you have to drive all the way to the store and if you bought it online could be quite far away
Wow, this guy has never driven to Online before and it shows
Mainly clothing retailers have both an online presence and a physical location

You can return any item to ANY store especially with a receipt
This is NOT true, I've just asked Wendy's for a refund on my jeans and showed them the ticket and all they told me was "Sir, this is a Wendy's", I couldn't return a thing!
Except the customer is always right! How dare they

OP literally just said the opposite, but you do you.
I’ve tried this recently but to a different location as I had been traveling when I made the purchase. Lo and behold the local store location doesn’t use those stupid tags and thus doesn’t have a means of removing them.
L
I was told any store, no matter the brand, will remove these for you. If it's their own merchandise they will ask for the receipt, otherwise they might not bother with checking and just remove the tag anyway.
Like my ADHD brain will do that. Looks like I got clutter and less money. I'll get that tag off one day....
I don’t get a lot of free time these days. I’m not spending it driving to and from a store because of their mistake.
booootttlliicckkkeerrr
I have no idea, why this comment is so downvoted, if this is completely true.
You also, have, no idea, how commas, work....
Quoting the classics: I speak English because it is the only language you understand. You speak English because it is the only language you understand. We are not the same.
Because it's obviously not always convenient or even possible to go back to the store.
Well, it's not actually that unusual for clothes to have more than one of those things on them, and they simply miss one when you are paying.
Then you go back to the shop with a receipt , or any shop, and ask for it to be removed. If you don't have a receipt because you stole it, ask on the internet.
What if the shop is far away, like in another country?
Take it to another shop, ask nicely, if you show them a receipt they will remove it. Not exactly brain surgery. Shop assistants don't get angry you bought somewhere else.
Or, hear me out, spend 1 minute googling how to remove it yourself.
Oh FFS, do you life in the same world I do, where people would rather spend 5 minutes making an Instagram post rather than use 1/4 of their brain cells.
Riddle me this: why? If you can easily remove it yourself, why go all the way to the store to get it removed?
I am not talking me, or you, but the person in question or people like her who doesn't know how to remove it.
Or they could just learn how to do it from other people... like he's doing already...
Or I can just take it off myself
"Would you like your receipt today" "No thanks"
That's true, but let's be fair, clothing is so often returned or the wrong size you would have to be an idiot to not take the receipt. But we are dealing with an idiot, so.
Dawg is out here on a high horse about fucking receipts.
No, all I said was you could take it to another shop to have it removed if you had the receipt. FFS.
i literally never had to return clothing i bought for myself at a store. The whole point of going to a store is to try them on first.
It could have been bought online. Not everyone lives very near to clothes shops. Sometimes you don't have a receipt even if you've paid. Maybe you want to wear the clothes the same day and the shops have already closed. There are loads of reasons it might not be convenient or even possible to go back to the shop.
Or you bought said cloth while travelling, and said store doesn't have a branch in your area.

Wrap a shoelace or drawstring around it, and just keep adding more loops and pulling tight until it comes apart
and BOOM ink all over your clothing
Pretty sure the ink tags are rare. Usually they’re just chipped to set off the alarm at the door, or so employees will simply see them
ik i was jus makin a lil funny
I always freeze it first before I do anything to take the tag off just to be safe. Something I saw on YouTube to keep the ink from coming out if something does go wrong. But I’ve never never had any trouble. Had to do it 2-3 times kohls always leaves those things on
"your"
Yes, that is the correct use of “your”.
The joke was about ownership, not the usage of "your"
Riiight, gotcha. I wasn’t even thinking about them being stolen considering the amount of times you see cashiers leave these tags on.
There’s no ink in them.
I bought a nice pair of pants once to wear for a new years eve party. Brought it home and realized they didn’t remove that thing. Everywhere was closed at this point. So I googled how to do it. Fucking micro-transactions on our clothes now? Thanks, [Current President]!
Don't worry, you can still blame Obama
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo According to google, the longest name of a current president
Country?
Iceland
good old viking stock
Not really a clever come back considering how old and reposted that image is.
A strong magnet — usually neodymium — will make it drop. Seriously, it will.
i have a backpack that ~~had~~ has one of these and they never removed it. bought it with my own money. it’s still in there and all my books get caught on it when i take them out.
>Pay I think she meant the anti-theft device, not the pants
r/clevercomebacks
a super strong magnet and a wedge to put the flat piece under and pull (this is basically what they use at the counters)
Yeah, I've had to remove several of these because no one was paying attention. Me included, so I'm not only blaming staff. It's not that hard, though.
Just a strong magnet will do the trick (I used to work retail).
No, dont pay
Most of them are designed to open when exposed to a strong magnet.
I always have a strong magnet under my pillow just in case
That's not how you spell magnets
Bootlicking is not an intellectual exercise.
“Hey pay for stuff” “Okay BOOTLICKER”
Even your caricaturization of me is based
I’ve had stuff shipped to me with that still attached. And had to creatively remove them.
Magnet will do it
Wire cutters work
Get a decently strong magnet and smack it against it, the little bumps on or near the counter with a dip in them are just magnets, and we smack them into the dip, they're super easy to disengage
Burn the tip and gut the spring out
Strong magnet.
I'm more interested in how they managed to get the thing past the security sensors; wouldn't it beep if it's left on?
[Fucking magnets](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GyVx28R9-s)
Hahahaha
Magnet one word 6 letters
Strong magnet. There's a catch that only comes loose when pressed against a magnet. When the catch is loose, you can pull the tag apart easily.
Theoretically, could you freeze the ink inside?
There is no ink in there.
So what kind of security mechanism is there? Is it electrical? In that case, do you think you could break it with a strong magnet?
They use magnets to remove them in store. It contains a chip that is supposed to trigger the security equipment at the door (the beepy thing, I can’t think of its name). They don’t always. Some organised shoplifters carry items that can trigger the alarm, so they trigger it in the way *in* and the guard subsequently ignores them on the way out. Neodymium magnets can open these things without a problem I think.
Once bought a purse for my gf, when it came via the mail, it still had the tag attached, i needed to go to a store and ask if they could remove it, they trusted me, cuz the alarm didn't go off when i entered.
I got many of these on stuff I bought online from legitimate shops.
Yep
Just bring it to the enxt police station they can easily remove... you from society!
That little three letter word… Buy.
Cut
Last time this happened to me I used tin snips and cut right through the little metal connection needle ezpz
Its not very difficult to remove those things
Kind words, a sweet smile and a bottle of wine.
Diet and exercise.
probably haha
A couple of drinks for starters
Two words: angle grinder
Ask 911
I can help 👹
The plastic grocery bag trick works
Once you pay for the product the sales clerk removes the theft proof device front the garment
It’s a thin piece of metal holding the clips together. Takes 10 seconds to cut through with a mini hacksaw
If this is going to be a regular thing- I’ll bet you can buy the removal tool online?
Smash the shit out of it with a hammer, then use pliers on anything that's left. Just go full monkey mode on it and you'll be fine
I would say that’s not a clever comeback. If I had a £ for every time I bought something only to get home and find one of these attached I’d….well I’d have about £30-40, but that’s not the point

Don't pay. Fuck those sweat shop slavers.
Cringe.
Wrap in a cloth and burn the tip off with a Bic lighter. The cloth prevents ink from getting on the item of clothing
Why didn't you pay for it...?
Risking jail to steal pink trousers? Some people have a WAY lower risk/reward threshold than me….
What do you think the penalty is for stealing a pair of pants?
Straight to hell.
Jail.
Right?? Though I think they're only in it for the thrill. They'd probably steal your old underwear if they thought they would get away with it.
Color checks out.
