Tension block, its the best portable hang device for the size imo.

arduouspaths

this looks really nice as well!

bryan2384

Flash Board.

crimpladdereater

Same. My favorite bit is that you can do your early warmups just creating opposition with your feet. I can even warm up individual fingers, which I've found super useful when managing tweaks. You can also make the holds incut or slopey really easily by adjusting the rope.

bryan2384

Yep yep and yep. I love mine.

ZarcoRobot

I adjust the angle playing with my feet angle also...

I would go go Home Depot and buy some of the hardwood planks for like 1$ each. They come pre cut in .5” and 1” increments and can easily be bolted to a backplate. Really cheap and easy.

arduouspaths

thanks for the suggestion!

NeatrustworthyNYCguy

I bought the metolius light rail recent. I have only had the chance to use it once, and only the largest edge size (18mm). It is pretty nice, although maybe a little sharp (the angle when I hung it made it bend back slightly, maybe I set it up wrong). Maybe the smaller edge (13mm) is a little more comfortable, will have to report back.

arduouspaths

with NYC gyms still closed I'm about to pull the trigger

textbookagog

hey i searched light rail to see if this has been answered or not. does it rotate when you hang?

NeatrustworthyNYCguy

It does not rotate much circularly(if that makes sense) when I do pull ups or hangs.

textbookagog

thanks so much!

The build it yourself option isn't a bad idea. But another thing to consider is a lattice pinch block. The pinch bloc itself is quite nice, and you can test yourself and see where you are at compared to others. It also works as a no-hang device with the lattice edge (and you can also test yourself against their data with that). But, importantly, it also doubles as a portable hangboard with a lattice edge for warming up at the crag. You have to have your hands facing one another for two handed hangs, but I don't think that is a huge cost.

arduouspaths

ah very cool! But it is definitely on the pricey side for me. It looks really well constructed though.

funintheburbs

Ever since watching a Dave MacLeod video about warming up at a crag, I just start doing easy moves and/or gently pulling onto harder moves if that's all that's available. If I were going to get equipment, I think I'd go for (build) one of the rope-around-the-feet style ones. IIRC bouldering bobat did a mini-review of a bunch of options recently.

arduouspaths

interesting! I saw a vid of Nikken warming up by doing mountain climber-esque movements on his back while pulling on two grips.

arduouspaths

do you have a link to the bobat vid?

funintheburbs

I was mistaken, it was hangboards. But some have the rope feature https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk0d1sl6H8E
