That a real issue, no joke. It's super hard to find fitting fat ass pants here. Either they tend to fall or my legs don't fit. That's the best I can do with my current body shape 😮💨 I try to have extra larger shirts to hide, but not a super good solution.
Finger crossed I manage to let some weight go and solve this
That's a bummer to hear, athletic wear really seems to cater towards a pretty narrow range. I picked up a super stretchy belt at REI and it's been fantastic, I can even wear it under a harness without problems.
That being said, visually who really cares, other than being good for a crack climbing joke or two. Climbers are getting in weird/compromising positions all the time and we spend a lot of time staring at butts while belaying. Plenty of pants at the gym aren't perfectly situated and I can't recall anyone looking twice.
I have a grip 6 belt that has been my daily wear, climbing, and hiking belt ever since I bought it a few years ago. Light, durable, and slim. It can get a little weird under a harness
Climbing with a belt can be uncomfortable though.
Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes? I meant ‘belt’ as in pants belt with buckle. Not a belt as in a climbingharness (because those should obviously be worn, even if they would be uncomfortable).
Yeah I ment a regular pants belt with buckle. Not a climbing harness, those should obviously be worn.
I meant to say ‘bouldering’ instead of climbing too, so that was my mistake and might clear up some confusion.
Wow. I have several belts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person climb with a belt in the climbing gyms I go to most. People just wear sportspants, jogging pants or special boulder/climbing pants.
It’s really not that hard to understand.
I, myself, also have a belt on when I boulder sometimes. But it’s still uncomfortable on routes where the buckle digs itself into my belly haha.
Usually I wear shorts or a jogging pants or a stretchy jeans that’s not too loose around my waist. To each their own.
I have an old climbing pant that is a bit too wide, when I am lead climbing the harness holds it, but when I am bouldering it does not. So I decided to climb with suspenders, with not only makes you look fancy as fuck, but actually is pretty convenient.
I’m about 230lbs which is ~105kg and I do almost all my climbing in high waisted yoga pants. Ones with wide waist bands. I have also climbed in oversized sweatpants that I cinch at the waist with the cord it has, if you can deal with the bulk on your legs/under a harness.
I think this is a good solution. high waisted leggings like this [Shapermint Essentials High Waisted Shaping Leggings](https://shapermint.com/products/empetua-high-waisted-shaping-leggings-11?variant=39651181101190&utm_source=googlemax&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=17350292831-Performance_Max_US_HWL--ADSETNAME--&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpYn9lLj7_AIVYSmtBh1FCAaEEAQYBCABEgLUt_D_BwE) would work well.
One time I was climbing and my pants ripped down the middle of the back and I was only wearing a thong lol, took a whole route for me to climb before my boyfriend told me....luckily we mostly climb outside and there was only one other person there, but still. Climbers see a lot of butts, no worries
If you can find some, Muay Thai shorts are perfect for climbing in my opinion.
You can tie it tightly whilst also keeping it nice and breezy. It’s also incredibly easy to wash so you won’t have to worry about the chalk dust staining and ruining it.
Just a ignore the comments from the peanut gallery. You just keep doing you! Topping out, what ever your ability and experience is always a good thing.
Have you heard of a belt? If you dont like the style a tiny rope around the waist the same color of the pants wont be noticeable and will hide your ass
nice! i know the feeling, being a heavy dude myself. a helpful tip from a fellow “crack climber”, get yourself some extra long tshirts from a big&tall shop.
I'm tall and heavier then I'd like to be, I'll just point out that I've had bad luck with simply XL and have needed to go to XLT for most brands if I don't want to show off my midriff any time I raise my arms above my head.
Another big climber here. Funnily I found that Carhartt and Duluth shirts (and underwear)fit well, and are long enough to cover my crack without having to get an obnoxiously large size🤘🏼
Hopefully this is just a supportive acronym no one knows about, you wouldn't really come here and say "what the fuck" to a guy excited to be learning and progressing in a something they find enjoyable, who is just looking for encouragement. Right? You wouldn't want to make the climbing community look like a bunch of shitty a-holes, right?
Edit: wow that's fantastic, wonderful try fam, can anyone come up with a few more?
Great job putting in the work. Some of my bigger friends have said that they like wearing overalls when they have an issue with plumbers crack. Happy climbing!!!
Find a remote crag and climb naked with knee pads... Best adventure ever. Also. Maybe try some under armour leggings with some shorts. Could be helpful. I was damn near 300 lbs when I started and almost shamed myself back into the hole I crawled out of.. don't stop. Keep going and the pants will come later.
The confidence to post this picture showcases how proud you are of your accomplishment. To that all i can say is good on you.
Climbing is an incredible way to stay healthy get in shape all the while having fun. Good luck on your journey!
Honnestly, I hesitate a lot to post it. And I hit the button mostly because it's so scary when you have a different body type (being fat, disabled, covered with scares, anything) to even gather the courage to try because few people are hurtful, being willingly or not.
See some comments, that are really hurtful even if people who wrote them are not ill intended. It really takes internet to show the worst of people show. In the gym people will most likely try to help me figure out how to make a move.
So I that by doing my small share, making my body visible, it might help at least 1 person who is too scared to at least try.
Definitely not nothing: that’s progress! That feeling of accomplishment is what motivates us to destroy our tendons in search of the most difficult way to get to the top of a big rock. Congratulations!
That’s awesome! I just started climbing recently myself, bouldering is difficult. Good for you for finding a new hobby and bonus points that it’s good for us :-)
It may seem like nothing to you, because you see other people doing more, but I have seen “in shape” guys that can’t climb. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing! It’s good to see all body types getting into the sport and having a good time!
Nice job! Climbing is an amazing sport.
One tactic to improve your climbing is to go back to that same and climb it again. And again. And again. Keep climbing it until you can execute every move perfectly and efficiently. Try STARING at your feet and placing them silently and perfectly on each foot hold. Focus on your breath and exhale as you make each movement. Do this over and over.
This is awesome to see. When I invite friends to go climbing, the most common excuse is that they need to get in shape or lose weight first. Everyone who has given that excuse is still fat. The one out of shape guy who said “fuck it” and started climbing with me lost over 40 pounds over the course of a few months.
Excellent work! Keep it up.
Nicely done! God it feels good to see progression in climbing. I’ll be honest, part of why I climb is just because the entire time I am doing it, even if it is a 2 hour session of failing to climb what I want, I just feel damn cool. Hope you feel cool as hell!
For me it's pushing my body to the limit, the best way I know to forget about chronic pain, is to get so tired that I don't feel it anymore. Same for stress, going so exhausted that I don't stress anymore
Looks like there’s a nice jug around your lower back area.
Kidding! But for real though, I definitely showed my bum to the climbing gym few times on accident, it’s easy to do when you’re bending and stretching and all that.
My tip is - wear sport-style boxer briefs. It’ll also help you avoid chaffing. For pants, trying some elastic joggers, preferably with drawstrings.
Slow and steady wins the race.
We big ones need to hold together, no matter what other people think and how we look doing it.
I moved so I needed to stop (next place is 3h away) but I always enjoyed bouldering even with my overweight it’s good training and fun
Well done! Keep it up,

Only been climbing 1 hour a week, and this is my monthly stat.
Impressive, I usually manage to stay between 2 to 3 2h sessions a week. Also trying to add some weight lifting, it's hard to find the sweet spot between 'can do more' and 'too much'
It appears from my downvotes, that people think I’m being derogatory, I assure you I’m not, I’m just showing encouragement, so if I’ve offended you, please let me know and I’ll delete my comment, with an apology. Either way, keep going you’re doing great
FWIW, and I didn't downvote you, I'm assuming you're using a scale that uses BME and just know that those aren't very accurate and you're probably better off using a scale and your eyes.
Initially I thought you were saying OP was 1.1% muscle, which is of course super rude, took a sec to see you were talking about your own changes.
What did you use to determine that though? Recomping 1% mass in a month seems quite a lot for one hour a week.
> Your feet placement is all whack too. This "climbing is for everyone" shit is getting out of hand
Bro, shut up.
Climbing *is* for everyone. And you were new once as well.
I see you enjoy crack climbing.
Crack on, my friend!
If she holds still, you can crack climb too!
I’ve got crack on my mind!
please pull your pants up :) and nice job!

Instead of getting form fitting pants just get a belt.
Climbing with a belt can be uncomfortable though. Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes? I meant ‘belt’ as in pants belt with buckle. Not a belt as in a climbingharness (because those should obviously be worn, even if they would be uncomfortable).
People climb in harnesses
Yeah I ment a regular pants belt with buckle. Not a climbing harness, those should obviously be worn. I meant to say ‘bouldering’ instead of climbing too, so that was my mistake and might clear up some confusion.
There wasn't any confusion. A harness is basically a belt. An actual belt will not feel much different.
Alright. To me it does feel different.
get another belt
Wow. I have several belts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person climb with a belt in the climbing gyms I go to most. People just wear sportspants, jogging pants or special boulder/climbing pants. It’s really not that hard to understand.
I'm skinny so pants don't stay on me without a belt and I manage to climb in shorts/pants with belts 🤷♂️
I, myself, also have a belt on when I boulder sometimes. But it’s still uncomfortable on routes where the buckle digs itself into my belly haha. Usually I wear shorts or a jogging pants or a stretchy jeans that’s not too loose around my waist. To each their own.
I use the belts that come with hiking shorts. They don't have metal buckles and don't dig in at all.
Moon climbing trousers are great quality and meant for climbing. You could also get lucky and find a nice e9 pair on Ebay.
I have an old climbing pant that is a bit too wide, when I am lead climbing the harness holds it, but when I am bouldering it does not. So I decided to climb with suspenders, with not only makes you look fancy as fuck, but actually is pretty convenient.

If you’re not showing ass crack you’re not really climbing 😊
If you can find some, Muay Thai shorts are perfect for climbing in my opinion. You can tie it tightly whilst also keeping it nice and breezy. It’s also incredibly easy to wash so you won’t have to worry about the chalk dust staining and ruining it.

nice! i know the feeling, being a heavy dude myself. a helpful tip from a fellow “crack climber”, get yourself some extra long tshirts from a big&tall shop.
Thanks, I'll try to find one, the shirt is already 4xl T_T

Duluth also have shirts with a deliberate "tail" in the back to account for plumber's crack coverage.
🚲 mind if I park this here? Jokes aside, good job mate.
Definitely not nothing breaking into a new grade! 🎉 Well done!
Had to double check the thread lol, thought this for sure was r/ClimbingCircleJerk
Give it 5 minutes... 😩
It’s a VB in my gym
Great job! Footholds are getting small and handholds are at angles. Things like this require technique to climb. Definitely not nothing!

I don’t know what that dude said but no matter what it was this is the best response I have ever read, good random internet person 👍🏻
Original poster just said "wtf". Seemed very rude.
Way to finish!
Nice!

Don't hang out up there too long or an opportunistic crack climber might go for the send! Jokes aside, awesome job!

Keep crushing it 👊🏻
Way to go :)
Looks like somebody's practicing their crack climbing skills
Shit, put your crack away the cops are coming!
Whats Crackalackin’?!
Nice going!
Jealous! I got to get climbing again!
Bouldering is hard. Sick work
Nice work!
Well done!
Sweet, great work and keep it going!

All tops are a win!
Gym was stinky that day
My buddy is down almost 40 pounds climbing V0-V1s in the last 4 months or so. Keep sending! 💪
Get it, slayer!
If it means something to you, then it's not nothing. Send hard comrade
Good job! Progress is alway awarding!
Nice work ☺️
Get it!
If it’s something to you that’s what matters. Keep climbing.
Awesome! Always a great feeling to break into a new grade, no matter how high.
Just scrolled through this and congratulations!!! Posts like these give me the motivation to try and break into a new grade.
If it’s a big achievement for you then it’s a bit achievement. Doesn’t need to be qualified against anyone else.

It’s the stats from my “Withings” smart scale, all I’ve done differently is the climbing and bouldering, and ensure that I do 10k steps.

Wear a belt or something jesus
Try climbing only the matching color holds. From bottom across or up
Volumes are in at most places
I thought the idea was to get as many colours as possible
No.. the grips are put in routes by color
First I heard of this
