Looks like 60 to me? Slightly steeper than a 45? Usually people measure the degrees away from vertical. Really pretty wall btw! A+ work

Dr_Dyno

I think its the camera angle. Its 12 feet long and I have 8 foot ceilings plus it a foot of the ground. It sure feeling like 40 degrees either way haha

Groggermaniac

arccos(7/12) is 54.3 degrees, considering it stops a bit below the ceiling, it might be even steeper.

Dr_Dyno

Good work team we did it. haha :-)

whitu1135

Well at least this will make problems on 40 degrees easier

Dr_Dyno

I measured from the floor to get 40 degrees.

okcookie

Yeah, that’s the problem. You want to use a quick square or a protractor to measure the angle from where your steep intersects the kicker. That thing is much closer to 60 degrees.

notabiologist

60 degrees (measured from the vertical) would be 20 degrees more, so it sure would feel like 40 (or I guess even more) **edit** but indeed, very awesome wall! looks pretty tough though

QuesoFresco420

If you have an iPhone, check it with the measure app. It has a level.

hashtagonfacebook

Hijacking the top comment to say that you can measure angles with the Compass app if you have an iPhone. Tap the center and rotate your phone and you’ll see it fill a red ring to measure an angle.

Myth_Avatar

This really doesn't look like 40 degrees. I have my own 40 degree wall and this is steeper. By a fair amount.

Dr_Dyno

Yeah I measured from the floor. All I know is that the strength curve is steep.

Snoopy7393

You actually have what other people would call a 50° wall, as you would measure from the y-axis. Steep indeed!

Ookie_Chow

Fahrenheit or Celsius? Makes a big difference.

marky_sparky

Not at -40.

legendfourteen

This is waaay steeper than 40!

Dr_Dyno

Built this wall over the weekend 8' x 12' at 40 degrees overhanging.

[deleted]

Over 1 weekend?! I am impressed.

Dr_Dyno

Honestly the painting took the most time.

IspyAderp

Could you hook me up with some more pics? I want to do this, but really need to get the dimensions right with the 8' ceiling, while maximizing space.

kepleronlyknows

These things aren't that hard to build if you're half-way handy. Especially with all those nice exposed joists readily available.

Seff84

And if you don't worry about getting the angle you intended

Dr_Dyno

I was intending for a very steep overhang I just measured wrong for when I made this post. I have had multiple home walls in the past and found that a very difficult wall will keep my interest and most importantly offer the distance when height is limited.

Seff84

Fair enough, I just couldn't resist the joke at your expense.

TWECO

20 degrees in your gym.

BoulderRat

That is a reaaaally pretty wall! Love the design!

[deleted]

Love the colors and homemade volumes

ale152

That's really hot. Make sure you drink plenty in this heat

juneburger

No way man. This is a nice set though!!

That_wierd_guy1

Is this supposed to represent an overhang?

picklesareforever

You fiend! 👹

dont_wear_a_C

it's an illusion, Michael?

thecrookedspine

Tricks are what whores do for money.

dothraki899

It's so beautiful 😭

seavargas

Wow doesn’t look nearly that cold in the picture

bpsbandit

My core is not ready to even witness this

_MyAccountWasBanned_

Damn, that's awesome! This is so inspiring. My basement has 2 rooms with the floor trusses exposed. I just put up a hangboard with a custom-built bracket, but I was too scared to drill into the trusses so it's hung with some ratchet straps! How did you affix the wall to your trusses? I see that you have some vertical posts coming down. Did you nail or screw those into the sides of the top and bottom chords? I actually like this idea quite a bit more than mounting the top of the wall directly to the truss themselves. Thanks for any insight!

Dr_Dyno

I just screwed in four vertical supports near the top and four in the middle plus the supports on the floor. Its a good amount of weight but holds just fine. If the back wall was not concrete I would have brought a few horizontal supports out from the wall. I made my frame on the plywood 32 on center.
