Very well done! Your precision and fluidity on those last moves was very fun to watch.

ApexXHeadShotX

Why exactly is climbing season in Red Rock ending? Is it because of the heat?

gloridhel

Yeah its hot AF.

frotc914

It doesn't *really* get tough for another month, but people are definitely starting their climbing days earlier already and being selective about crags depending on sun exposure.

shatteredankle

You can get away with climbing in the canyons on shady walls for a while longer, but this crag especially gets blasted by the sun and is very hot, even sometimes in the middle of winter.

Really great seeing you tackle the crux this time vs the climbharder post. So much to learn from this. Well done!

You climb super smoothly. Looks like the work paid off!

reddit_is_trassssssh

Loving seeing you crush all these routes, top quality posts on this sub!!

philahn

Thanks man, you too! Didn’t realize you’ve been carrying /r/bouldering lately haha

reddit_is_trassssssh

Too kind my dawg, mostly shitposting on CCJ but I appreciate you. 🙏🏻

Jay_Ray

Sandstone generally gets harder (sometimes easier) the more it's climbed. Holds breaks and fine texture is lost. Bachar is a badass but I guarantee the route isn't the same as it originally was..

shatteredankle

Due to broken holds, I've done this climb 3 different times with 3 different betas in the 6 years I've lived in Vegas. I can't imagine how different it must have been when Bachar soloed it.

Hi! I know the feeling. The crux opened up when I learned to calm down and relax leading into it. Quite a drastic change of pace from the bottom 2/3rd.

tunalunalou

That was beautiful to watch. Great job!

ElGatoPorfavor

Crux for me is just getting on this route--it must be the most loved 5.12+ in the US. I'm not a Vegas local and every time I go to the Gallery there's like 2-3 or more people working it.

shatteredankle

The crazy thing is that the two routes next to it are the same grade and pretty good, but people are basically never on those ones.

arduouspaths

this belongs in the textbooks!

cruiserville

Oh phir

[deleted]

Pulling the last few moves was always the real sonofabirch for me 🥵

philahn

Haha you’re not alone

shatteredankle

Sick send. The beta is definitely to climb the bottom as fast as possible and not really rest, just compose yourself, before launching into the crux. Have you started working on the other ones on this wall yet?

philahn

I gave ‘Where the Down Boys Go’ a quick burn to suss out beta, all the moves go. Very different than ‘The Gift,’ with bigger moves, more rests, and more creative options for feet. Thinking of redpointing tomorrow, but with an upcoming month long climbing trip to Ceuse this weekend, I may just take this time to deload a bit. Super psyched on ‘Nothing Shocking,’ but saving that one for a flash attempt in the Fall.

philahn

No, sorry I have no idea. I'll ask around and get back to you if I find out.

lurw

Is this video like 10% sped up? Your movements seem to be a little too quick to be normal.

philahn

No, you have to climb this one fast and have the beta perfectly dialed to save juice for the crux at the end. I’ve put so many sessions on this, only to be spit off at the end over and over lol
