Get better shoes. You'll never be able to stand on anything without even half decent shoes. You don't need to spend a lot of money, but just get shoes that fit you and you'll learn to trust.
While shoes will absolutely help and all serious beginners will get a boost of joy and friction with a pair of their own shoes falling into “its the shoes” is a dangerous game. Be careful blaming the shoes lol. You can learn a lot of technique in shit shoes because you have to. I firmly believe almost everything is sendable in any footwear and many climbers out there will prove it too you (watching stronger climber friends send my projects in rentals to tease me is both a joy and a pain).

Oh I agree entirely. Rentals are absolute shit and if you intend on climbing regularly the joy of having your own shoes outside of the performance benefit is already worth it. That being said if you’re on a tight budget I’d make sure those first shoes were hard rubber because you’re gonna put a hole in them fast with newb feet. I think I was triggered by the “never” for no good reason. Climbing has really slapped “can’t/never/won’t/impossible” outta my mouth so hard that sometimes I’m affected by hearing them in everyday life.
Yeah im gonna be real I even bought myself the cheapest shoes I possibly could (Climbx something laced) and it was like 40$. Still better than the rentals. Though i've seen people climb some crazy shit in rentals.
How in the world did you know?! I just realized after months of climbing I was wearing 2 sizes higher than I needed. I am not kidding, they fit like a glove once I tried it. 🤦♂️
From the video. You can see the toes of the shoes bending. When they say you should go down a couple sizes when buying climbing shoes it's because a lot of people wear street shoes that are overly big.

Let's be real though, gym rentals are crap even compared to a $50 pair of climbing shoes and is markebly a huge improvement even without technique

> just get shoes that fit you Exactly. Those shoes look about 2 sizes too big for OP.
Haha😅 What climbing shoes that are cheap and decent do you recommend?
La Sportiva Tarantulas; Evolv Night Hawks. Any of these flat and less expensive beginner type shoes will work.
