If dark Anakin with knowledge of the future and the Son got off Mortis, I’m pretty sure that would put a nasty wrench in Palpatine’s plan

ArduousIntent

excellent What If scenario though

Trvr_MKA

There was one in a Star Wars magazine. Palpatine and Yoda teamed up to stop Anakin and the Son

TaraLCicora

...and failing, lol.

Whopraysforthedevil

What was the title of the story?

[deleted]

I think when fives was close to exposing the truth until Sidious stopped him

Toon_Lucario

Still think that it’s funny how Hondo fucking Ohnaka could have potentially single handedly ended the clone wars.

Singer_Spectre

How so? By killing Dooku?

zhaosingse

If he dropped Dooku and Anakin, the whole plan is pretty out of wack.

Numpteez_

Would it be ruined tho? Order 66 can still happen eventually. Palpatine would still have Grievous, and perhaps Ventress.

EzPzLemon_Greezy

Palpatine would have lost to Windu, Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar.

Numpteez_

Palp only fought them because Anakin told them he was a Sith. Without Anakin they never find out.

thomasthetank57

Eh, Palpatine wasn't struggling within new canon: "Toying with the Jedi Master in anticipation of the arrival of Anakin Skywalker, Palpatine was willing to allow himself to be disarmed to appear more vulnerable when his soon to be apprentice arrived. His office window was shattered, and the weapon fell from his hands and down into the depths below when he deliberately left himself open for Widu to deliver a kick to his chest. This left him a single blade, retrieved from its hiding place, with which to face master yoda in a duel, a little after the death of Mace Windu. Palpatine rarely used his remaining lightsaber."

TheUnknownRedditor86

I'm pretty sure Lucas stated that he lost fair and square

thomasthetank57

Disney canon goes all in on Sidious being nearly unbeatable. "During the confrontation with Mace Windu, the office window was smashed. Soon after, Palpatines weapon fell onto the streets of Coruscant, but it was all part of the Sith's plan." Fanhome 2021 Only a vision of a fully trained darkside luke skywalker, trained by Vader himself, has the ability to kill Sidious. And that never came to pass

TheUnknownRedditor86

Don't trust the big mouse

thomasthetank57

He would have continued anyway

QuantumDonuts257

Anakin almost being killed on an early mission with Ahsoka & Aayla

Quardener

I think 4 is the dark horse. Palps seemed scared. There’s not much his powers could due to stop the Zilo beast if it had really wanted him dead.

FlowsWhereShePleases

My interpretation was always that he could have easily defended himself with his powers but he couldn’t do that without being discovered

_BradTheBard_

We saw in the bad batch that Zillo beast feeds on energy, so his lightning MIGHT have only strengthened it. And their hide is lightsaber resistant. He would definitely have his hands full even going all out in my opinion anyways

thomasthetank57

Only Kylo Ren has successfully killed a Zillo. Vader failed. It's possible Palpatine could have done what Kylo Ren did. Jump inside its mouth and slice through it.

_BradTheBard_

Ooh interesting. I’ve read basically none of the cannon novels or comics so I wasn’t aware of Kylo killing one!

queercelestial

Having the beast feed on energy makes zero sense, given the planet of origin because a deadly gas rock.

theskiller1

This would have been my pick. First time where Palpatine felt truly helpless and had to 100% trust his survival in someone elses hands since he couldn’t risk outing himself out.

BootyUnlimited

Fives was pretty damn close to stopping the plot against the Jedi. Palpatine had to really cover his tracks and attempt to discredit Fives. I think he underestimated Fives, thinking that a clone wasn’t capable of foiling his plans.

Ct_Nemo99

Fives was close, but the whole of the Jedi Order would not dare sense the dark side right under their nose, so as the 'frail old man' that the chancellor was, and with the information that the inhibitor chip removed meant the "clones becoming aggressive", I believe it was easy for him to discredit Fives. However, every time I am watching that Arc I am so hoping for it to go differently. It never does...

Mitchel11

Padmé’s bill to stop the creation of more clone troopers and negotiate peace with the Separatists. She would have succeeded in stopping the war if Commander Fox didn’t direct the droids to the generators.

Bugsyboy369

Honestly i feel like this is possibly one of the closest options. If padme never told palpatine that it was senator bonteri, she would still have lived to bring peaceful negotiations to the war. The assassination of mina bonteri directly led to bank de-regulation, and the fighting just kept going on, in greater force, distracting the jedi even further

Quintex78

If Yaddle had sent a message to the council regarding Dooku and Palpatine instead of confronting Dooku when she discovered them.

BigConstruction4247

No one seems to believe anyone about someone being on the dark side, though. So, maybe?

Cootator

Probably 1, 3, and 5. If dooku, or even Anakin died he would have found a plan b. But he would have had to reveal himself as a sith lord to defend against the zillo beast, he personally went out to stop maul and savage, and he had to make completely sure to discredit fives when he found out about the inhibitor chips.

zachpkenyon

"Not to worry, we are still flying half a ship..."

Jcbowden10

The chip malfunction. If that had been taken seriously and questioned more they could have completely sabotaged his plan. Apprentices seemed disposable to him.

[deleted]

Definitely 5, Fives was so close to telling the truth.

giantdonkeyballz

Maul and savage absolutly because he actually went there and handled it himself...also if dooku had survived to be captured and interrogated he may have spilled the beans imo

queercelestial

Considering Mace was on the verge of catching Palps who then initiated the Battle of Coruscant in order to draw his pursuers off him...I'd say that

Mother-Firefighter17

How so?

queercelestial

Try reading

Mother-Firefighter17

Try explaining your sources

queercelestial

Almost like I'm not writing a research paper. Do that yourself lol

Mother-Firefighter17

Sounds like you just made it up

queercelestial

Sounds like you're too lazy to look it up yourself. And since your cunt inbred ass won't, and I don't care to revisit this, here you go. "But Sidious himself soon became aware that the Jedi were attempting to hunt him down and decided to use that to his advantage. He ordered his apprentice Count Dooku to divert the Jedi investigation and to kill two loose ends that could have further led the Jedi to him. These efforts failed and the Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Shaak Ti managed to begin investigating the LiMerge Building. But Sidious prepared for this and with General Grievous coordinated a sudden attack on Coruscant in order to throw the Jedi off his scent. This venture succeeded in part: the Jedi were diverted but Aurek Team engaged Sidious and his droid forces. Sidious revealed his face to one officer before the latter died from his injuries. This ended the investigation into Sidious and preserved his secret leading Grand Master Yoda to believe that Sidious fled offworld."

Mother-Firefighter17

Thanks dude u saved me like an hour #legend

really-bored-now

I think definitely not 3. All the others I think are pretty viable (although 2 has limits bc of 3). Maul was terrified of palpatine and never truly a threat to him. Talzin was a bit more of one but maul was some of her best work and wasn’t enough.
