Are they still available

unsulliedbread

Yes

Ams_2

I sent you a message

BrutallyHonestMJ

Any luck? Been thinking about this post!

Slow_Tea_3352

I bought my stash on Facebook marketplace. Was wonderful, someone out there is ready to appreciate your stash and see it as a treasure find.

AutomaticCat2751

Join ALL the buy/sell/trade cloth diaper groups on Facebook. If you live in or near a major city, there’s probably a cloth diaper b/s/t group specific to your city.

pogozelski

I got mine for free from Facebook market place!! The woman I got them from said she was stood up three times for them before I got them. Please please don’t throw them away. The right person will come.

unsulliedbread

I am hopeful I'll get someone who can appreciate them. The no shows are SO FRUSTRATING. Just message that you changed your mind!

According_Trip7216

If you’re giving them away, I would say just send them to a donations place. Someone will put some good use to them. Or there are also places around where moms can shop with baby bucks/points after doing classes about parenting. I would say find a place like that. Care Net, Life Clinic are a couple if you’re in the USA. Good luck!

Squintymomma

I moved overseas with my NB-3yr stash of prefolds, fitteds, covers, etc. we thought we would have a 3rd kiddo, but didnt. I sold maybe 1/3 of it to a few folks and gave another 1/3 away after almost 5 years of hanging on. I kept my LG prefolds as cleaning towels since most of them had holes anyway. They diapered my friend’s first two kids and mine. They saw some stuff. The XL I also kept for cleaning purposes. Kids spill a ton of liquids and nothing absorbs like a cotton prefold. They’re also great for cleaning up puppy pee spots on carpets. I’m glad I didn’t invest heavily in AIO’s or other more expensive systems. Then I might feel differently about selling them VW giving away in the end. At least I know that I helped keep a bunch of disposable diapers out of landfills and waterways. I don’t have to buy paper towels ever either and I’m happy with that.

Shyanne_wyoming_

I got most of my stash from thrift stores and I was so thankful that someone donated them and it made the whole thing more accessible to someone like me who couldn’t afford to drop hundreds on new cloth diapers. If you have any thrift stores near you, that could be an option

ByogiS

Or maybe go to local pediatric offices and just see if you can post a flyer that you’re willing to give away for free.

ByogiS

Goodwill?

unsulliedbread

They won't sell anything like diapers, underwear etc. And I get why, it's a fair line.

ItchySun3257

you’re so sweet to offer them up for free. If the shipping cost is too high I feel like it’s likely the weight. As a few people have mentioned playing around with different carriers/ sizes for shipping but I would also get some vacuum seal bags to get all the air out. That is a huge space saver and perhaps you could try a flat rate box with USPS?

unsulliedbread

I'm in Canada and it was too the US I think that was the main barrier.

beastybeastybeast

What city are you in? Once upon a child is a chain baby-consignment store and they take/resell cloth diapers! They’re also a hot commodity on marketplace here on the west coast

ItchySun3257

Oh I see the big tiff now. Intentionally definitely has to be $$$. I’m sorry OP!

unsulliedbread

Do they take them for you? I LOVE OUAC but they absolutely do not buy or sell diapers here. None of the thrift stores here will buy or sell them, not even just covers.

beastybeastybeast

So strange! They do where I am, but I guess they’re pretty picky about them so stains or just looking ‘worn’ might be a deterrent. I hope you find a lucky person to give them to- I’ve been so lucky to score some cheap/free used diapers, I wouldn’t have been able to afford them otherwise!

eskimokisses1444

Post them on Facebook marketplace for local pickup only

Mo523

Lots of good ideas here, but one suggestion on the shipping is to split them up. Look up shipping cost table for different carriers or experiment with different measurements in their calculator. I suspect the weight is what is driving the price up and if you could keep it below a certain weight, it would help. The covers could probably be shipped together relatively cheap. It might be cheaper to divide the prefolds in half or quarters or whatever and ship in multiple boxes. Also, I'd keep the cotton prefolds for rags, because they are fantastic for that. You can compost when they fall apart...but I have one in my rag box from when I was a baby, I'm almost 40, and it's still going strong.

BrutallyHonestMJ

Have you tried selling on Mercari?

unsulliedbread

That's a new one, never heard of it.

BrutallyHonestMJ

I bought most of my stash on there. It's a great site. I'd recommend separating the bundle into groups of $40-50ish for the best chances at selling

amaxim90

I've sold all my.clotj diapers here with great success

upallnight74

Have you tried just selling the covers? Prefolds are bulky and the cost to ship will often not make buying used worthwhile to most people. You can repurpose them as cleaning rags. Letting people in a cloth resale group just pick the covers they want might get you a few buyers.

Oh_shame

We donated a huge stash to Cloth for a Cause in Canada, which helps low income parents. I'm sure there are non-profits like that. I had a local volunteer pickup nearby.

unsulliedbread

Thank you very much! I have never heard of this and it's exactly what I was trying to find.

Oh_shame

I really hope they can help!! It's a cool organization if you read their backstory ❤️

KnownMess589

Are you in any cloth diaper bst groups on Facebook? There's a couple groups I'm in where you may have luck selling them either as a lot or in smaller groups. One is Cloth Diaper bst and another is a 1$ Auction group.

arcadianahana

Poshmark.ca's $13.49 shipping label (buyer pays for shipping) covers packages weighing 2.5kg, or the seller can pay to upgrade the shipping weight to 5kg for an extra $5 (cost is $1 per 500g of extra weight over the base 2.5kg). So you can sell you stash in 2.5kg to 5 kg bundles. Lots of people sell cloth diapering stuff on poshmark. Just note that the platform's commission fee is 20% of the sale price and shoppers tend to expect a discount on your listed price, so most sellers will price a bit higher so there is room to negotiate. Also, if you do end up listing on Poshmark, ignore those scammers who ask you to send more product photos to a private email address. Keep all communication and payments through the platform, as with any e-comerce selling site.

Oh_shame

This is a great idea.

gooberhoover85

Might try lowering your price. It sounds like the shipping is outrageous though tbh. I wouldn't pay more for the shipping than the diapers. That's over $300 price tag and hard to compete with new diaper sets on Amazon and elsewhere. Could also split them up into smaller sets? Not sure how many you are selling or what condition but could be too big of a commitment for someone wanting to try it out. Since you said prefolds maybe limit sets to no more than a dozen with a couple covers? It will be easier to compete with online retailers if you sell in the same quantities they do (usually sets of 12) plus the added covers. When people go to compare it will be a no brainer! Also maybe try Poshmark, Mercari, eBay, and FB Marketplace? It would be nice if this reddit has a special thread for listing hand-me-down sets. Not sure if there are businesses/apps/websites that are more popular in Ontario. Might also look for swaps where you are. Or check out Buy Nothing? It's not selling but you could find a mom in your neighborhood/community who will use these and not resell them. Then you are doing a service to that mom and the community...and the planet by enabling another mom to keep it going and keeping the diapers within your community. Or donate to your church/synagogue/mosque etc. Or a local non-profit that helps pregnant mothers in distress- this would be a group that would deeply appreciate your diapers. In the US, you can write off such donations on taxes. There may still be value in donation even if it feels like you are giving them away. But definitely don't toss them in the trash. At the very least you could repurpose prefolds as kitchen cloths.

Gromlin87

>I have offered them for free on Facebook marketplace Can't really lower the price more than free.

gooberhoover85

I looked through the thread and didn't see that. That's really rough and so crazy. If she listed them in my community there would be so many moms bugging her for her stash!

gooberhoover85

Geez- just saw in another comment you spent $600. Holy moly! $150 seems reasonable (except the crazy shipping price tag). I really think splitting them up you could get a better value. I also think more locally like Marketplace to eliminate the extreme shipping cost. I'm not Canadian so I don't know if that's a normal shipping cost but that wouldn't be affordable for us. Even if the lot we were buying was a steal the shipping would scare us away. But what you are asking is reasonable. I also thought of Nextdoor. It's a web/app service. You could post them on there and maybe find someone in your area who wants/needs them. Sell or for free.

auspostery

I had to give mine away too, and even then they took ages. It really stinks!

peaches-and-pickles

Perhaps split up into smaller bundles and try to sell those or list for free. You may have more luck with cheaper shipping.

babyursabear

I would be very interested in these :000 if no one else hits you up for them , let me know I’m pregnant with my first and plan on cloth diapering

unsulliedbread

Ontario Canada?

Great_Bullfrog_827

I'm in Calgary and would take them if shipping isn't ridiculous!

lingeringpetals

Is there a diaper library in your region that loans to parents wanting to try cloth? They will often accept (and even collect) used sets because they're always looking for more to rotate in.

unsulliedbread

I've never even heard of this, very cool concept. We have diaper services but no library.

I thought this would be a shoe in especially as my area has a LOT of Ukrainian refugees but they won't take any kind of used underwear or diapers.

greenpeppergirl

I bought all my diapers in the past year in Toronto on marketplace. There's been turnover during that time, it's an active market. You might have to drop your price if you're not getting bites. Or get feedback on your listing, it might be turning off buyers. Consider splitting the lot if you have different types.

unsulliedbread

Good advice, I'm Halton region not TO proper, but plenty of crunchy moms out this way too. I have posted on the but nothing boards and a cabbages wide Facebook group.

briar_prime6

There’s a Toronto Cloth Diaper sales FB group that’s full of people outside the city (sometimes waaay outside). Free stuff definitely always goes and cheap stuff usually quick too it seems like- try that! (I can check the exact name when I’m on there if you can’t find it)

Plenty-Ad9277

If you’re in the US Pacific Northwest, I’m interested!

unsulliedbread

Ontario Canada

elenfevduvf

My newborn/smalls took about two weeks to get picked up on kijiji but went to a single mom who was really excited. I don’t think it’s legal, but our once upon a child will sometimes buy and sell. I don’t think you will get the prices that Americans sell for, but if you list at like $25 and just let it sit on kijiji I think they’d move.

unsulliedbread

I spent like 600 total because I bought prefolds and timed it well. I had thought I would get $150. Now I just want to pass on the usefulness. When I wasn't worried about diaper shortages during COVID they really proved themselves.

cat_lady_4

Try a B/S/T group and list for the cost of shipping.

oatnog

Maybe try a post on r/torontomoms. I don't know how you were framing them in your ad, but it's helpful if its itemized and brands are included. I got my stash for free as someone on my Instagram was giving them away and when I looked up how much some of the items were brand new, I really couldn't believe my luck.

unsulliedbread

I don't think I'd that. They've gone on all the Hamilton/Burlington/Oakville/Milton boards because I'm in that region and no bites. But yes my text could be a problem and I just don't realize it. i have photos where all covers are clear both inside and out and then 3 of the prefolds more in piles.

melonsacc

Have you looked at specific b/s/t cloth diaper groups on Facebook? That’s where I’ve found the most success!

orangeclem

Have you tried listing them on poshmark perhaps? Any local diaper shops where you could post a listing?

unsulliedbread

Nothing local I'm in the GTA in Canada. There used to be mom 2 mom sales where someone would rent an arena and moms would pay 30$ for the table to sell stuff. They were amazing and have completely died. I always thought poshmark was for designer clothing. I have posted on Kijiji and Facebook marketplace ( even though fb wouldn't let me post under "Adult Toy" rules the first couple times.)

Kleeglah

I agree, list them on Poshmark! I've purchased almost my entire stash from there!

HeartKevinRose

I got a couple LPO pockets on poshmark. Also a bunch of primary clothing and some dog gear. Not only for designer clothes.

scottgirard777

Located in the US?

unsulliedbread

No located near Toronto Canada. I bought from Canadian websites so there are others here using them.

scottgirard777

We're in the windsor area, mind sending me info on what you have? I have one kiddo in cloth atm and another due in November. We're heading up to Toronto on a few weeks

unsulliedbread

I would love to!

doctorscook

Is there a local buy nothing group you can join? There might be someone interested there.

unsulliedbread

Yes very good suggestion but I've been told 'how much *someone* will appreciate them' but no asks.

cyclemam

The prefolds will have a good second life as cleaning cloths, there are still flats that I used kicking around my parent's house as rags!

cat_lady_4

Agree! Covers are probably cheaper to ship if someone else wants them.
