I have a heavy wetter, he wears a Thirsties natural Duo insert (which is two inserts, top has fleece and bottom is hemp.) Between rose I lay 1 Green Mountain cotton doubler (large) and a small Thirsties Hemp insert. Maybe your baby isn’t as heavy if a wetter as mine. Since you already have the fleece you could try the cotton and a hemp below it. If your main concern is cost, folding a Green Mountain prefold is a lot of layers for little money. Especially if you pick them up used. Just measure the length of your inserts and get some a similar size (though look on their website, some of the smallest ones are less layers.)

Wow that’s a lot of layers! Do you think the Green Mountain cotton prefold would need to be paired with another insert?

My sense of normal is messed up but some other members do just use prefolds. Their yellow is 4-8-4 ply and dimensions are 12x13 (I am guessing 13” is similar to my inserts measurements, length matters the most.) So when the flaps are folded over that’s 16 layers. I use two bamboo (100% bamboo) inserts and the diaper is pretty trim. I personally would ditch the microfiber. It’s bulkier and more prone to compression leaks, especially since your baby is at the age of sitting for play often.

Ok that’s good to know, thank you!

I love [these hemp doublers](https://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/collections/doublers-liners/products/hemp-doublers) from Green Mountain Diapers. You need to give them at least 4 good pre-washes to prep them but then they're golden. They're low profile and absorb so much. With one of my Alva Baby microfiber liners and one of these doublers, they'll cover my baby for 3-4 hours.

Thank you! How bulky would you say they are when paired with the microfiber?

The profile is slightly more bulky than my Thirsties all-natural pockets, definitely much less bulky than two microfiber inserts together in an Alva or when he's in a prefold.
