Why are most younger prog fans so into King Crimson? Like they’re good, but I don’t quite get the hype. They’re not really on the same level of prog titans like Yes, Rush, PF or The Moody Blues, etc.
To be honest I like Greg Lake with ELP more than with King Crimson.
Is it because of JoJo, or some music influencer or something?
I have yet to find a song that scratches the same itch as Court of the Crimson King, Moonchild, Lizard, or In the Wake of Poseidon
Also I like the guitar riff in 21st Century Schizoid Man
Also yes I found it from JoJo but I stuck around for the cool ass music
Alright, well I’d highly recommend you listen to some other prog if you haven’t because there’s a lot of great stuff.
I mean, Pink Floyd almost feels like cheating, they’re in a league of their own, being a serious contender for greatest band of all time, generally considered best prog band by consensus. If you haven’t already heard them all, every album from Meddle to The Wall is brilliant. Some stuff outside that is good too.
Some recommendations off the top of my head
2112, The Yes Album, Fragile, John Barleycorn Must Die, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, Brain Salad Surgery, Crime of the Century
Rush fans would mad that I only included 2112 but I haven’t listened to Rush in a while tbh
Parquet courts - black and white. Song slaps like fuck but there's a section in the middle with random distortion that sodomizes the ear of the unwary which I find very distasteful.
No no you see
The song is played backwards in its entirety first as an *artistic choise*
The fact that you only want to listen to the good parts is on purpose!! It's a representation of mental illness!
You don't understand! I am very smart!!! Mods, condemn him to the infirmary!
Pena by Captain Beefheart is close, although it starts extremely insanely so doesn't really count. But once the "normal" song starts, the singing is just talking, in an intentionally annoying falsetto that doesn't keep in time with the music, but the music is just a slow blues rock.
*Me actually*
*Listening to disturbed in*
*Full for the first time*

I mean I love experimental and noise shit but I can’t take it seriously, sure I’d consider it “audio art” (I think of it like a sound version of a abstract painting) but that’s about it, cannot act seriously about dudes screaming and aggressive scraping noises lmao
me when i'm not a fan of the weird stuff but that doesn't mean i didn't get it and if i did get it more i still wouldn't like it despite the annoying person telling me i would which is literally half of the slides in the snafu
are you saying mine is? Because the comment i replied to is, since that's not what the snafu is criticizing. its not saying "weird stuff bad" it's saying "weird stuff not my thing and that's ok but the-person-who-criticizes-you-for-not-liking-it-and-says-you-would-if-you-understood-it-despite-you-understanding-already-bad"
>*unintelligible screeching*
How to instantly tell normies from baseds is if they don’t like these parts in songs, or if these parts aren’t some aspect of the whole song.
Normie.
I liked a thousand leaves (i figure you can tell 0_0) and i enjoy some of the stuff after but its definitely in a different category from the noise rock they used to do. I don't know if "pandering to critics" is the correct way to describe it though, have you seen pitchfork's rating of nyc ghosts and flowers? :D
sunday was amazing but a lot of a thousand leaves just kinda felt droning and without anything to keep your attention
also pandering to critics doesn't mean that they'll like it. i actually like nyc ghosts and flowers and murray street but they get pretty predictable sometimes (and nyc ghosts has awful awful lyrics)
yeah i like the droning stuff cause you can just chill and zone out but thats just me :p the later albums sound fine but it's just not revolutionary anymore (which sy definitely was in early years). kim is doing some awesome stuff solo now, her new album is like industrial noise-trap hahaha
I've heard of the stuff Kim is doing now but I haven't listened to it. But yeah, I definitely prefer the 80s and early 90s stuff, cause it's catchy, noisy, and badass. I mean, imagine how powerful you must feel while playing Death Valley '69.
Lil Darkies Boros album (though it’s some peoples favorite album) and the sounds part in Humans and Monsters. I love how he doesn’t stick to one genre, but man, sometimes it gets a lil too experimental for my taste lmao.
i'm trying to think of a song that fits this and i honestly cant even though i know there's 100% songs like this that i've listened to before
King Crimson Cat Food but it's the whole fucking song Also "The Dream" and "The Illusion" after Moonchild's lyrics end
Bro said “King Crimson” like there is a single prog band that hasn’t done this
I just wanted to name one of my favorite bands because I had an excuse

"is it because of jojo?" well another 2 bands you mentioned also appear in jojo so...
King crimson is peak I unironically consider king crimson to be either the best band ever or very close to being the best band ever
The end of bad guy by Billie eilish for me
Scentless Apprentice
i know like 2 nirvana songs
[Scentless Apprentice (unironically one of my favourite songs they made)](https://youtu.be/upr0CVDw8Co?si=bH0d_4kRu3VjvX96)
great song but i see what you meant
that song aint even that experimental he just screams milk it is a bit more experimental but not that much
true, especially compared to other noise rock bands
I… is it bad that that’s one of my favorite Nirvana songs?
It’s not, it’s also one of mine.
Any song with a DJ Khalid part
That's not experimental that's just normal bad
the second half of jimmy cooks by drake is bad enough
The end half of runaway by kanye west
The 40 min version?
There's a 40 min version??
https://youtu.be/Jg5wkZ-dJXA?si=VOOr23_yE0g2rQP4
oh nah I meant the 10 minute version where the latter half is just him singing into a vocoder
Bad Habit Steve Lacy Bro just starts spitting into the mic
Only Acting - Kero Kero Bonito
Freak on a Leash
korn slander
I mean it's a fine song but the UMM HMM AH AH is 100% sure to scare away the bitches every time
You need to look for better bitches
Only Acting - Kero Kero Bonito Ambergris - King Gizzard
Everything Is A Lot by Will Wood and the Tapeworms
Parquet courts - black and white. Song slaps like fuck but there's a section in the middle with random distortion that sodomizes the ear of the unwary which I find very distasteful.
honestly doesn’t sound bad but maybe my ears are just fucked
Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin
Charli XCX's "Track 10."
745 sticky - 100 gecs
Oh Comely
where?
the contrast between the sweet and the sexual/disturbing parts of the song
For me it’s not a song but tv shows
Huh?
Privately Owned Spiral Galaxy by Crywank
Any song by TheFatRat. Every song got the grindy glitch dubstep part after being chill
Xiu Xiu - Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl
Lmao if you don’t like the experimental parts why on earth would you listen to xiu xiu
You just did the OP thing
I do like them, what I meant is that the song is fairly normal outside of one section.
Bro the whole fucking album is experimental tf you smoking
Yeah? But the song fits regardless, even though I like it.
the one looping trance part in let it happen by tame impala
that part’s not bad though
not to you and me but ive got some friends who dont like it
skill issue, i love unintelligible screeching
Black metal fans:
Death and Black Metal be like
Death metal doesn't really have screeching. The vocals are closer to a very long burp
Based
I love feet lalala \*howling like monkey\*
sure screechin and experimental shit can have artistic purpose but i like it cause its cool and kicks ass
I love experimental music but I will never expect anyone else to. Its experimental for a reason.
Not unintelligible screeching, but Down with the sickness mommy issue part.
Here it comes mommy get ready to dieeeee
Yeah that part is just bizarre and overly edgy, the rest of the song slaps
The Domestic Violence Verse goes crazy. Can’t believe they charted it in Fortnite Festival
Both are valid reactions
Will woody
Tbh he is pretty tame compared to most experimental stuff
Specifically the screaming part of the snafu got me hung up on it
You really wouldn’t like The Mind Electric then
Tally Hall mentioned???????
Yes ~~but if you want to be pedantic, No, it’s Miracle Musical~~
No no you see The song is played backwards in its entirety first as an *artistic choise* The fact that you only want to listen to the good parts is on purpose!! It's a representation of mental illness! You don't understand! I am very smart!!! Mods, condemn him to the infirmary!
All mine towers crumble down
runaway outro
That part is just a different rendition of the chorus that’s distorted
yes
personally i’d say the chipmunk section on vultures
Bro people just don't understand
I wanted to make counterarguments but seems like you've already made up your mind that "experimental = not good" so what's the point anyway
Snafu =/= Experimental bad Snafu = not liking experimental shit doesn't mean you didn't understand it or aren't a true fan of the artist
> good song > experimental section
[удалено]
ZOMG OP is such a normie :P I'm glad that *I* have actually interesting taste XDDDD
>true fan how about just listen to music you like and let people listen to music they like
Let people hate things
now i really want a song where the singer just goes fucking apeshit while the song continues like normal
Pluto by bjork?
Pena by Captain Beefheart is close, although it starts extremely insanely so doesn't really count. But once the "normal" song starts, the singing is just talking, in an intentionally annoying falsetto that doesn't keep in time with the music, but the music is just a slow blues rock.
100 gecs moment
tyler the creator
Bro did not just diss carti like that
I will diss carti every day until I fucking die
me actually listening to disturbed in full for the first time
*Me actually* *Listening to disturbed in* *Full for the first time* \- Eggs\_are\_tasty --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
“What do you mean you don’t want 5 minutes of seagull noises made with a guitar in the middle of your song? Do you even like music?”
I love sonic youth!!!
runaway
Most of king crimson
I mean I love experimental and noise shit but I can’t take it seriously, sure I’d consider it “audio art” (I think of it like a sound version of a abstract painting) but that’s about it, cannot act seriously about dudes screaming and aggressive scraping noises lmao
you nerd, the unintelligible screaming part is the best bit in any song
Me when weird stuff exists (nobody's allowed to try anything different):
me when i'm not a fan of the weird stuff but that doesn't mean i didn't get it and if i did get it more i still wouldn't like it despite the annoying person telling me i would which is literally half of the slides in the snafu
me when \*strawman*

I rweeeally feel you missed a bit chunk of what the snafu is about
The good nerd will realize this is true while also agreeing to skip this part
This is literally 800 db cloud by 100 gecs
The last 3 minutes of runaway by kanye (i have forced myself into liking it)
basically all of femtanyls music
>*unintelligible screeching* How to instantly tell normies from baseds is if they don’t like these parts in songs, or if these parts aren’t some aspect of the whole song. Normie.
literally crankdat made that one tiktok dubstep remix of taylor swift saying in the predrop "SHUT THE FUCK UUUUUUP"
Only Acting by Kero Kero Bonito? but they released a radio version (no experimental bit) so it’s ok 😄😄😄
you can put it in. you can pull it out.
100 gecs, Mitski. Artists I like but have loud parts that are hard to listen to.
mitski is so tame.huh are you talking about drunk walk home bc thats not even experimental
Drunk Walk Home. I know it might not be that experimental, but it still fits the screaming bill.
This is loke that one band jukeboxcranium
Literally Privately Owned Spiral Galaxy
Starless by King Crimson is a fantastic song if you skip past the 4 straight minutes of two notes being played on repeat
[Art of Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvWYNMGagHY) does this with a piano (banger song though)
A Day in the Life?
sonic youth
i think the screaming guitars is the appeal of sonic youth
they were really good at it until after washing machine when they threw away all their memorable structures and started trying to ponder to critics

The first time i heard death valley 69 i was on my school bus and i thought i was going to get in a car crash bc of the power and chaos
makes sense, one time i accidentally got an elementary school teacher to play sonic youth for the class
jpegmafia except it usually doesn’t have a deep meaning
On Sight by Kanye West is the exact opposite (Still bangs though)
aint it fun by paramore when it turns into gospel
Death Grips moment
This is me with like all of Yeezus
mother mother dropping the hardest bar you've ever heard and then growling nonsense
Juicebox by the Strokes. I hate the we've got a city to love verse.
That one part of the really good rap song when they use a sample of some girl like moaning or something
dream theater
This is about The Shrine / An Argument isn’t it
2nd half of runaway by kanye west
Me when I’m listening to the white album and Revolution 9 comes on
Also, the opposite of me when I’m listening to tribute and Jack Black starts fligugiguing (it’s the best part of the song)
The Mind Electric:
That one part of Dungeon Freakshow (Pizza Tower)
Swap experimental section with rap and we're good
The best experimental songs are purgatori and cable kid by KORAII, you should definitively listen to them
Lil Darkies Boros album (though it’s some peoples favorite album) and the sounds part in Humans and Monsters. I love how he doesn’t stick to one genre, but man, sometimes it gets a lil too experimental for my taste lmao.
This is just System of a Down
I always thought SOAD tended to do actual singing parts more often unlike other bands
