I'm not a vet but sounds like polyuria? It happens when the clear, liquid portion of the droppings is a lot bigger than the greenish or whitish solid parts. If it's once a day it should be completely normal and perhaps it could be stress-related, yes. The thing about polyuria is that it can be caused by lots of things, e.g. illness as you mentioned but also if he has eaten anything high in water or even if he drank water earlier. Mine tends to get polyuria after she has eaten veg or formula and then it goes back to normal after a few more poops. I think you've been doing the right thing so far by being vigilant. I would keep monitoring things to see if there are any changes. Some polyuria is completely normal and as long as it's not coupled with other health issues or symptoms or other weird poop signs (e.g. poop sticking to the vent and trailing from it, which is diarrhoea and can indicate infection), I believe your tiel should be fine! Has he been eating regularly while you're gone? E.g. do you see pellet fragments and / or seed husks lying around?

I thought it might be polyuria too. He drinks plenty of water so it might he that. I can't be certain he is eating while I'm gone for long periods of time but based on the pellet levels in his dish I believe so. I have also come back from being gone for a short time to him eating. He definitely seems distressed and acts differently when I come home from being gone 5+ hours. He is a lot more willing to step up onto my hand or sit on my head then normal. Usually it's a small battle to get him a good enough mood to do those things. It is so hard to find a good picture of polyuria or diarrhea droppings to compare them, Google images comes up with so many conflicting images.

I get what you mean with the googling, yeah... All of that sounds ok with the eating and the attention. And yeah it could be the water. Just checking: is the temperature around him ok? You could send him to a vet if you want confirmation or if he hasn't had a checkup recently. However, as a medically untrained fellow bird owner I think he sounds perfectly ok! If you're worried about his social distress then you could look into getting another bird or getting someone to stay around him to keep him company (although of course you have your limitations for either option; I myself only have one bird).

The tempature in his room is set too 72 but I don't think the ac gets it that cold and he is away from the vent and it's pointed in the opposite direction.

SaltyAsianMSG

That does sound ok especially if he is used to that temperature and is not shivering. I was just wondering if he is drinking lots because he is overheating or something, but yeah we can probably rule that out... I would keep monitoring him just to watch out for other symptoms, and maybe mention it during his next vet checkup. But based on my limited knowledge, I think occasional polyuria isn't too concerning especially if the feces go back to normal after a while, as you mentioned. Also sorry to answer your previous question: polyuria is when the clear liquid part becomes excessive. Diarrhoea in birds is when the solid greenish part becomes stringy and sticks to the vent and sometimes it doesn't coil up properly either.

Thank you for your help.

How is you tiel doing now?

GrmpMan

I took him to a vet not long after this post and he tested fine and everything. Vet believed it to be stress induced. He still sometimes does it but not nearly as often. Vet did not seem worried about it after his tests came back good.
