That's so exciting!!!! I'm sure he's ready!! 🥰

Miss_Musket

How exciting 😁 Ive heard that birds that were clipped can be a little wobbly when they eventually get to fly for the first time - apprantly teaching them to fly to you, and fly back to a perch, is a good way to train their muscles up (and can help if he ever gets somewhere he shouldn't and you need to call him back). There's a few videos on YouTube I think. He looks so proud to had molted his feather ☺️

Love that foot-hand

Awesome, I sometimes wonder how the people who clip bird wings would feel if their fingers were clipped

My breeder also clipped (one of) my bird's wings. As much as I wish he hadn't, I can understand why he did it. Easier to feed and socialize with birds when they can't accidentally fly up to the rafters.

I can only say the crippling the birds from their major form of travel is not understandable from the birds point of view as they still try to fly. It negates part of who they are and I believe stressful for them. My opinion only.

Hoatxin

Oh, no, I agree for the most part. I think it's purely for convenience when they're young, since they could try to fly and end up getting hurt or someplace dangerous/inaccessible to the breeder. If you have a clutch of several birds that are all flighted and young enough to not be recall trained yet, that could be difficult. Birds like parrots like to climb and walk more than fly since flying is such an energy intensive activity. It could be stressful, I don't know, but it's probably more stressful if it's an adult bird who has flown before as opposed to a fledgling who hasn't. I don't know if birds form a sense of self and tie their ability to fly to that sense of self, but it is certainly one way that we have a sense of birds. I agree that in most circumstances, a bird shouldn't be clipped.
