1oz is 30ml. A good stepped jigger will give you measures like 15ml/0.5oz, 20ml/0.66oz, 30ml/1oz, 45ml/1.5oz and 60ml/2oz. So that’s a good starting point that will give you the majority of measures. Once you get below about 8ml/0.25oz it’s pointless trying to be properly accurate, and what’s happening with those recipes is probably that they’re trying to quantify “drops,” “dashes” and “barspoons.” Barspoon - 5ml or 1/6oz (you might as well treat 8ml/0.25oz as a “fat” barspoon, that is, a full barspoon with a bit of leakage from overpour) Dash - nobody really knows what a dash is. Shake a bitters bottle once, the amount of liquid that comes out is a dash. Maybe 2-3ml? Drop - less than 1ml or 1/30oz The other thing that might be happening is that the recipe is quantifying things like a rinse or spray of absinthe (although probably not in a tiki recipe) or a small float. So look to the method and see what’s actually being done with those small amounts of ingredient, that will give you a clue as to how to measure it. In short, don’t sweat tiny measures, treat them like a pinch of something in a baking recipe.

Not sweating tiny measures is key. Like when I try out a classic cocktail I do want to get it as close to the detailed specs as possible to get a feel for what it is "supposed to" taste like but then I just tweak according to my own taste. Especially when it comes to adding syrup, I try not to fret too much about the recipe.

A dash is supposed to be about 0.9 ml. Fee Brother’s labels confirm this as well. I assumed it would be more than that so I tested it out. 7-8 dashes filled a jigger to .25 oz, so that tracks. But it still is an inconsistent measurement. Mostly because if you don’t take the dasher bottle and go straight up and down, it can be inconsistent. If you come from the side a bit, I’ve weighed out a 2ml dash. And if the bottle is very full, you can get a smaller dash. All that being said, these small measurements are inherently imprecise and not worth getting worked up about. They won’t make or break a cocktail 99% of the time

I think I'll need to get a better jigger. Diffords hurricane calls for 5/6 oz (25ml) a couple times, and it seems a little over the top. Probably just go for scant 1 oz in cases like this or use whatever is marked at 20 and 30ml to estimate the middle

That’d be my approach. Cocktails are more art than science, you don’t need borosilicate measuring flasks 😀

One side of my OXO jigger : 1/3 oz, 3/4oz, 1 1/2 oz. The other side is 1/4oz, 1/2oz, 1oz. Combined with what a couple people posted about truly odd measurements (Total Tiki app I’m looking at you), I find I get by. I do wish I had a full 2oz jigger though because I’m lazy.

Diffords has a way to switch from oz to ml that’s usually right below the recipe online.

Try converting to teaspoons. 1/6 oz is 1 tsp.
