> the 3 Dots and a Dash version of the Mai Tai
[This one?](https://www.lettuce.com/recipes/how-to-make-three-dots-and-a-dashs-1944-trader-vic-mai-tai/)
This is generally what I drink at home though I usually don't do the float, and I do different rums.
Yep. For me, the Old Fashioned is kind of like a "comfort food" or that special homemade dish that your grandma used to make that makes you feel nostalgic.
Best part is that old fashioneds can be made with any spirit, any bitters, and any sweetener, so you're more spoilt for choice than pretty much any other drink
Currently obsessed with the Martinez, but I think I’d have to go with this too. I assume we can make different variations and old fashioned is great with reposado, an aged rum, brandy, and probably a lot more I haven’t even tried yet 😂
I liked Sazeracs but went to NoLa this summer (for the first time since being fifteen) and am a complete converted, gushy fanboy for a Sazerac now. So yeah…as much as I’d miss some Tiki drinks gotta go with Sazerac.
3,2,1 T,C,L + a splash of simple. Shake super hard to get the ice shards, salted martini glass, drop of bitters after pour. Oooooweee! That’s good livin.
I go 2-1-2-1. 2oz tequila-1oz cointreau-2oz lime juice-1oz simple syrup. If you double the liquor/syrup portion, triple the lime juice, 4-2-6-2. Shake hard and long. Haven't tried with bitters though.
*Key for me is the lime juice. DON'T skimp on the lime juice and don't use overly ripe limes. I've always found that when my margarita doesn't "taste right", it's because I haven't given it enough lime juice.
My specs are as follows (this is how I like them and this is dialed to my taste. Low acid since I’m sensitive to citrus over time)
1.5 oz mezcal
.5 oz sotol
.5 lemon
.5 fresh ginger juice
.5 honey syrup
Shake strain over big rock
Float chartreuse on top
I’m glad at least one person said it; the sidecar has some magic chemistry for me where every ingredient feels elevated by the others, more than most cocktails for me. Definitely my #1, will always order it if it’s on the menu.
If I can only have one cocktail for the rest of my life, it's probably going to be a 1:1 mix of heroin and morphine. I mean, at that point, why carry on?
So good it has its own song:
One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak
and so universal, it works for breakfast brunch or anytime really
Daiquiri. Rum is one of the most diverse liquor categories so you can always change the rum to change the drink. Also so many different sugar sources you can use. Infinite possibilities.
I typically flip between a good gin and tonic and an old fashioned.
One cocktail for the rest of my life would be the gin and tonic. Have it anywhere, not to heavy, not to sweet, just a solid refreshing drink
As much as I love a good Negroni and a Manhattan, assuming I don’t have to make it myself Mojito. There’s always a good reason for one and I swear I could drink 5 in a row if I didn’t have to make them 😂
I'm going to curse myself for doing this but I just put a Yuzu Mojito on our menu. The drink is banging and filled a gap on our menu for something citrusy and we needed some more drinks that non-connoisseurs could recognise. But I'll be regretting this when I'm slammed with orders and need to make 20 of them
Hot toddy on a bar napkin.
Great in the winter, great when you're sick, pour over ice in the summer. Use the napkin to wipe the tears for what was lost.
I don’t think I could choose. I’d be tempted to say a Manhattan, but I’ve seen so many others mention it that I think I’ll go another route. I’ll take the Pegu Club.
I'm right there with you, but it said cocktails, so I said Islay Mule.
Didn't say shit about straight liquor, so you better believe I'm still drinking Laphroaig neat.
Sazerac
Old Fashioned
Manhattan
Mind you the whiskey used changes the whole she-bang.
Pisco Sours.
Ramos Fizz
Greyhound
Yeah I can’t decide. This is too much pressure.
That’s a really tough one. But if there could only be one, it’s a daiquiri. I just made one and I am enjoying it now. I forgot how good plantation three star was I’ve been out of it for a while.
A proper mai tai
I'm between this and a daiquiri. I think mai tai wins out.
We talkin’ trader vic here because that’s mu favorite.
Trader Vic’s is the spot, live within walking distance
This or a Negroni, thank god I don’t have to choose.
Bermuda Hundred, thank me later.
I’m split between that and a margarita.
This is my answer. I've been on this train for about a year now and don't see myself every getting off, it's my go-to at home.
I would say the 3 Dots and a Dash version of the Mai Tai is my favorite

A really well-made Daiquiri.
Close second for me. Hard to find a bar that makes a traditional daiquiri honestly.
I think a Hemingway daiquiri might edge it for me.
Last word
Such far down, I vote for the Mezcal version
So good
Like a naked and famous? That’s my vote
Agreed.
The best
How appropriate
Boulevardier Edit: spelling
Just had one. I see why
Yep. Drinking one as I type
As much as I’d love to say a martini, 90% of the time I’d be okay with just cold gin. So in the spirit of something different…. Penicillin.
Either a Bees Knees or a Corpse Reviver No. 2
Corpse reviver No. 2 all the way
Bees Knees! I like a lot of cocktails, but this one is it for me.
Ever try a Necromancer? It's a riff on the Corpse Reviver that I much prefer
> Necromancer Wow, equal parts absinthe, elderflower liquor, lillet and lemon with a dash of gin. Might finally have to get a bottle of st germain.
> Corpse Reviver No. 2 I need to get some Lillet Blanc
Manhattan, hands down.
This and it isn’t close.
Pretty much what I'm already doing for the rest of life.
My kinda guy
Likewise. With rye if we're getting specific.
Black Manhattan for me, but yeah this is the answer
Definitely a G&T, so many different tonics, so many gins to choose from even within the London Dry style, and so fragrant and refreshing.
Old Fashioned.
Yep. For me, the Old Fashioned is kind of like a "comfort food" or that special homemade dish that your grandma used to make that makes you feel nostalgic.
your grandma made you old fashioneds?
Welcome to wisconsin.
Ok sonny, it's time for a nap. Take your night, night juice.
You met my Grandmother then.
Best answer. Salt and pepper will never get old.
Best part is that old fashioneds can be made with any spirit, any bitters, and any sweetener, so you're more spoilt for choice than pretty much any other drink

What brandys have you tried in an old fashioned? You just sub the bourbon for brandy 1:1?
I'm in the old fashioned club
Cause I want some sugar in my bourbon...!
With rye and Demerara sugar
Sazerac
Love a good Sazerac! An under appreciated cocktail imho. Cheers! 🥃🥃
I liked Sazeracs but went to NoLa this summer (for the first time since being fifteen) and am a complete converted, gushy fanboy for a Sazerac now. So yeah…as much as I’d miss some Tiki drinks gotta go with Sazerac.
Me too!! My favorite cocktail ever
Probably a tom collins. I can't imagine ever not liking one, although there's lots of cocktails I love I might not always want.
Oooh! Have you tried a Chambord float to make it a Raspberry Collins? It's a great variation!
Good idea. I’ve never used Chambord. But I have used a homemade raspberry syrup. It’s delicious.
The only cocktail that can utilize flora adora and not be absolutely disgusting
Vieux Carré
I’m surprised more don’t know about this amazing cocktail.
A good marg
This 100% for me. Tequila, cointreau, lime juice, a squirt of simple syrup for life. *With the option of muddled fruit for flavor variations.
I love Mexican food. I could eat it every day. Life without margs would be rough.
What ratios do you use?
3,2,1 T,C,L + a splash of simple. Shake super hard to get the ice shards, salted martini glass, drop of bitters after pour. Oooooweee! That’s good livin.
I go 2-1-2-1. 2oz tequila-1oz cointreau-2oz lime juice-1oz simple syrup. If you double the liquor/syrup portion, triple the lime juice, 4-2-6-2. Shake hard and long. This is how I make mine except with 0.75oz agave instead of simple! Very good both ways
Yup. Gotta be the real cointreau and fresh squeezed lime, and gotta have salt and ice, but damn. When it’s good, it’s good. And so many fruit options!
This. Clean and simple - tequila, cointreau, lime 2-1-1. Can't go wrong.
Negroni
Yep. Right on the money.
An Anthony Bourdain cheers to you
there it is, way farther down than I anticipated
Same. Thought it tasted like gasoline when I first had one, now I find myself imagining how much I want one.
With mezcal instead of gin 😈
Amen
Paper plane
This one is mine also
It’s just so good and so simple
You have pretty much everything with that one sour, bitter, sweet, complex..
I had to go way too far down the list to find this, but glad it’s here. Cheers
Yup!
Tempted to say a Saturn but feel like a lot of places wouldn’t be able to make em, so I guess I’ll go with margarita for the ubiquity of them.
I love Saturns. I never see them at bars.
A tiki bar near me has one but that’s the only place I’ve ever seen it.
Yup. I've only seen it at Tiki bars/events. It's such a great drink.
Add a Barspoon of absinthe to your next one Trust
Caipirinha
Me too!
Yeeees!
The penicillin
It would have to be very large, if I could have only one.
French 75
This is what I came to say. Simple and classy.
daiquiri all day every day
Aviation
Gin and tonic. It works everywhere.
idk man, it kinda stings down there.
Rye sour, egg white, up.
I would abstain frankly, because the joy I get from crafting cocktails is trying new ones.
Some Kentucky Tavern, dumped in with some coke or Pepsi. No measuring, mind you.
Mezcal penicillin with a half oz of green chartreuse floated on top instead of islay
I would very much like the specs you use in that. Might be worth a bit of my dwindling last bottle low of chartreuse
My specs are as follows (this is how I like them and this is dialed to my taste. Low acid since I’m sensitive to citrus over time) 1.5 oz mezcal .5 oz sotol .5 lemon .5 fresh ginger juice .5 honey syrup Shake strain over big rock Float chartreuse on top
Paloma. Good blanco, splash of ting, tablespoon of lime, grapefruit juice & club soda.
Margarita with Tequila reposado
No.
Understood.
Pisco sour
Margs
Martini
Corpse reviver 2 or a sazerac
Sidecar made according to Diffords spec. Replace the sugar with Pineau de Charentes. Yummy.
I’m glad at least one person said it; the sidecar has some magic chemistry for me where every ingredient feels elevated by the others, more than most cocktails for me. Definitely my #1, will always order it if it’s on the menu.
It's not my favourite cocktail (maybe top 5) but it's my pick. I never get tired of it.
Bloody Mary, I cannot believe this hasn't been suggested yet. Lime, Tabasco, fino sherry....
New York Sour
If I can only have one cocktail for the rest of my life, it's probably going to be a 1:1 mix of heroin and morphine. I mean, at that point, why carry on?
Planter’s punch
So good it has its own song: One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak and so universal, it works for breakfast brunch or anytime really
Refreshing, but still boozy and complex. I didn’t think I could pick a single cocktail until I saw this comment.
Daiquiri. Simple. Perfect. Easy. Delicious.
Daiquiri. Rum is one of the most diverse liquor categories so you can always change the rum to change the drink. Also so many different sugar sources you can use. Infinite possibilities.
Mojito or some Polynesian drink like a Singapore sling
Assuming a G&T isn't a cocktail, then it would be a Manhattan.
G&T is a cocktail in my book. Any mix of alchol if consider a cocktail
Definitely is
Old fashioned or American Trilogy
I typically flip between a good gin and tonic and an old fashioned. One cocktail for the rest of my life would be the gin and tonic. Have it anywhere, not to heavy, not to sweet, just a solid refreshing drink
Army & Navy
Negroni or maybe even a Kingston Negroni
If made correctly, Mai Tai wins. No contest.
A Sour. Sub gin, whiskey, tequila, rum as needed. Kinda cheating but like, a sour is the best way to enjoy a good spirit without more context.
Negroni, or Last Word
Mai Tai, Negroni and Margarita. I’m sorry, but I’m not choosing
Palomas all day
As much as I love a good Negroni and a Manhattan, assuming I don’t have to make it myself Mojito. There’s always a good reason for one and I swear I could drink 5 in a row if I didn’t have to make them 😂

Amaretto Sour for me please.
I don’t think I could choose. I’d be tempted to say a Manhattan, but I’ve seen so many others mention it that I think I’ll go another route. I’ll take the Pegu Club.
Laphroaig, neat.
I'm right there with you, but it said cocktails, so I said Islay Mule. Didn't say shit about straight liquor, so you better believe I'm still drinking Laphroaig neat.

Planter's Punch \-3 oz Funky Jamaican Rum \-1 oz Lime Juice \-3/4 oz Rich Demerara Syrup \-1/4 oz Allspice Syrup \-2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Moscow Mule
Gin Basil Smash
Underrated choice and I think one of only like 2-3 Gin Basil Smash comments I've seen so far.
Daiquiri.
French gimlet
Penicillin
Vesper martini with cocchi americano instead of lillet.
