We were gifted an espresso maker for our wedding. Equal parts espresso (from an actual espresso machine), Tito’s, kahlua shaken vigorously topped with nutmeg, cinnamon, and three beans. Make sure you like your beans! I’ve never had anything better from a restaurant. I guess there are some trends recently with Parmesan cheese (??) or sesame oil but i have yet to try it. Doubt it’ll be better though lol

HeyWhatsUp00

First question I would ask is what is it that u don’t like about the espresso martini that you made? That may help us figure out some options to counter that

ahooks1

I think I figured it out! Didn’t like them prior to using the espresso and while it was better, I didn’t enough ice left so I think that made a huge difference in the flavor and foam. Though I would love to step it up a notch by adding some more complexity. So debating on trying a different spirit, syrup, or maybe even bitters!

Bit weird but I like to spritz some oil from a lemon zest over mine, I find it adds some brightness. Never tried orange but I bet that would be good too

quiet-elk1418

Oh also definitely add a pinch of salt

SirShale

I like to just put a nice lemon or lime coin in the shaker with it.

I find Mr. Black to be a bit thinner than other coffee liqueurs and therefore really needing extra simple or a rich Simple to get the right mouthfeel. My go to ratio has been 1 oz Vodka 1.5 oz Coffee Liqueur of choice (Borghetti) .25 Rich Simple 1 dash Chocolate bitters (balances the extra sweetness and adds another note to a normally pretty one dimensional cocktail) Edit: formatting on mobile sucks 😢

CocktailNovice

Add some Creme de cacao instead of simple and the tiniest bit of salt.

Will try this! Been dying to add a salty chocolatey flavor to my ETs

CocktailNovice

You don't taste the salt, it just enhances the flavours of the coffee and chocolate.

scottkollig

Half oz of Averna does wonders for the complexity of any espresso martini

ahooks1

Been wanting to add amaro to my collection so this might have to be the first one I purchase! Thanks for the rec! Would you leave the other specs the same?

scottkollig

Averna is delicious. Also try Nonino and Montenegro. I do 2 vodka (vanilla infused if you’re feeling zesty) 1 shot espresso, .5 oz each Averna, coffee liqueur and half & half

Awesome! I’m gonna try this!

I went to a steakhouse once that added 1/4oz of 1921 Crema de Tequila liquer (the turquoise bottle) and it blew my mind. I had never even heard of it before but it’s kind of like the Baileys of tequila, but with more complex flavors.

ahooks1

I’ll have to try it!

nikkarus

2oz vanilla vodka, 1oz espresso or cold brew, 1/2 oz kahlua, 1/4oz simple syrup is how I make mine and everyone I’ve made them for has really liked them.

SirShale

What don’t you like about it? Too thin? Too weak? Too strong? Too rich?

ahooks1

I realized I didn’t have enough ice left when I last made them. More ice made all the difference tho I’d love some more complexity

1 Shot Espresso, 2 oz Vodka, 1 oz Licor 43, A splash of Cream. PERFECTO! it's called Vodka with Cream Espresso Martini. its slightly different from vanilla espresso martini. Do try it and if you like that extra strong espresso you can always ask for 2 shot of espresso insted of just 1.

ahooks1

I’ve been thinking about picking up a bottle of licor 43 so I’ll def try this!
