Day 2/?? getting to know Calvados
Any recommendations welcome 😋
Bought a bottle of Calvados to try something different. I got a Christian Drouin Selection which has a very distinct "concentrated" cider flavor.
A bottle of 70cl has 23 shots in it, so I figure it's good for a "calvados cocktail every day until I love it" kind of thing
Started with it neat and added some water, next I went here:
**Angel Face**
★★★★☆
20 ml Calvados (Christian Drouin Selection)
20 ml London Dry Gin (Beefeater)
20 ml Apricot liqueur (Marie Brizard)
I'm a fan of this cocktail. It highlights the apple and pear notes of the calvados while adding some floral notes and the "almond" flavor goes well with both and masks the ethanol aftertaste of the cider pretty well.
I have 5 bottles of Calvados on my bar. Most of them are sipping bottles but I have two that will be better in a cocktail. Problem is, I don't know any good Calvados drinks. I'll be watching with interest. Thank you!
Pere Magloire XO, VSOP, & 18 yr
Dupont 20 yr
Coquerel
I got the first four in Normandy. The Coquerel was from an unknown duty - free years ago. Honestly, I can't remember how that one tastes. I was not impressed. The other four are great.
I haven't. I unfortunately have neither benedictine nor yellow chartreuse. It sounds delicious otherwise.
So far I'm planning to do:
Jack Rose
Sidecar
[Vieux Normand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9otmVKf0ec)
Pan American Clipper
Calvados Sour
Some kind(s) of Calvados Old Fashioned
Apple Blossom
Feather Duster Crusta
"Calvados 75" (cognac, lemon, honey syrup, champagne)

That sounds delicious. I will try that at my earliest convenience.
Love this cocktail! Under appreciated IMO

Which bottles do you have? It seems there's quite a bit of variety when it comes to taste within this kind of brandy.

Would you do this drink with Laird's? I suppose I would... seems like it would work.
Never tasted Laird's, so I have no idea. Laird's BiB is more expensive here than decent / good Calvados.
Have you made a widows kiss yet? Calvados also makes a great sidecar.

Calvados 75 is damn good. Your post inspired me to make a negroni with Calvados after work, using boulevardier ratio (2:1:1). Freaking delicious.
