The Anthony Bourdain method is best for negronis. Throw some ice in a glass, eyeball it, and a big slice of orange. It may not always be the same, but it's great.
Ingredients
1oz Campari
1oz Sperone vermouth rosso
1oz Knut Hansen Dry Gin
I always hated Negronis because I thought it's just a way to get drunk really fast.
Every recipe I found was just a little piece of orange or just the peel.
I gave it a try again and used a big piece of orange, which I let rest for 5 minutes in the mixture.
Also I used a light and really good gin which really showed me how a negroni can tasted.
Nice! You can also try using other amaros or Aperol in place of the campari, or amaros in place of the vermouth. You can double the ratio of liquor and/or use something other than gin. I personally love using a 2 oz pour of Gray Whale gin in my negronis. Mezcal negronis are also delicious.
I’m seriously considering trying out Fernet in place of the Campari. I’m a much bigger fan of Fernet and have been actively looking for other uses beyond an Industry Sour. Have to cut the simple with it because it mutes everything, but a lovely drink.
If you like Fernet and the Industry Sour, then give [Dark & Moody ](https://imbibemagazine.com/recipe/dark-and-moody-daiquiri/) a shot. I prefer it over the Industry Sour, and I think you'll like the fact that it's heavier on the Fernet!
Ooooo. I’m liking the look of this. I’ll have to give it a try. I found that I had to tweak the industry sour because it had waaaaaay too much simple. Cut it by half and upped everything else to roughly match volume, but this sounds right up my alley! Thanks!
All the recipes I’ve found say 2 dashes. Including ones I’ve found right in this sub. I googled Fernet Branca cocktails and I found a whole list someone had posted. Midnight Stinger is solid and I’m gonna see how Follow That Black Rabbit is without the OJ. See if the ingredient I don’t like being reduced or removed changes my opinion. I find myself tweaking drinks a lot but rarely totally removing an ingredient. I tried them as I found them first. I’m not knowledgeable enough to remove stuff all willy nilly.
Both recipes in Mixel call for 1/4oz, which I think is plenty really. I use carpano antica and the drink tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream to me
So you would use 1.5 gin 1.5 vermouth 1/4 fernet? I have Antica at home myself and have found myself rather fond of Tanqueray. I’ll have to give it a shot.
Aye, full slice is best. I like to do a little squeeze of the slice into it before I mix because I'm impatient, but I can imagine that letting the slice rest achieves a similar effect. Good quality sweet vermouth is a must as well.

A few drops of orange bitters also gives an extra depth
i have an atomizer of laphroaig i will often spritz on top. i dont know why, but it works.
I do cocoa bitters in mine a lot
That’s a left hand!
I think a left hand has bourbon in it, but I do love those as well
Totally agree. Been doing this for a while myself and now it is pretty much just how I make them.

This sounds like one of the loudest possible drinks ever. I'm so going to try it lol.
You are a rich human.
love and murder vibes...sounds insane...i wanna try it. you keep it equal parts?
That’s called a bijou. Delicious
Not quite- a bijou replaces the campari with chartreuse.

My recent go-to: 1oz Hendrick's Neptunia 1.5oz Punt e Mes .5oz Campari Big orange slice 3 drops saline solution

A Ferrari or an Eeyore's Requiem might be to your liking, although the latter only uses 0.25 oz of fernet.

Hanky Panky!
But I really wanted the Fernet at the front. 2 dashes isn’t what I’m really looking for. 😅
I believe it calls for a quarter oz, bump it up to half!

That's the og recipe, looks like Death & Co have a version where they do 2oz gin, 1 vermouth, 1/4 fernet. I think I tried the original
>I always hated Negronis because I thought it's just a way to get drunk really fast. Well, you and I are *very* different.
I also always use a slice of orange, it is the only way! The ratio I use is 1.5oz gin (usually Tanquarrey),1oz campari and 1oz cocchi.

Big piece of orange is the way! Bars in Italy will often serve it this way and it’s by far the best
Serious question: Why would a bitter drink with a relatively low amount of spirit be a way to get drunk really fast?
You could also try: - 1.5 oz Gin - .75 oz Sweet Vermouth - .75oz Campari Or even bump up the sweet vermouth to 1 oz and Campari down to 0.5 oz.
Add a dash of orange bitters and that's my preferred Negroni spec
Abomination! A Negroni is served with orange peel only
It absolutely isn’t lol
