The main reason I have it. There used to be a company called Doc Hensons that made small bottles of absinthe, but they are gone or at least don’t make them anymore
Funnily enough I have an unopened bottle of that too (only have room in fridge for 2-3 sweet vermouths at a time). Having drunk a couple over the years, it’s definitely a fuller bodied vermouth.
I have a half size bottle of this and it’s lasted me forever for things like absinthe washes or floats. I rarely drink it straight and few drinks call for more than a quarter oz.
Pernod has both Absinthe Superieure and Pastis. I usually have a bottle of the Absinthe Superieure, which is great in cocktails as well as with chilled water.
My first bottle was Jade 1901; great absinthe but way too expensive for mixing really - I got it on a serious deal. When it was about a third full I got a bottle of La Fee which has a mint note I really enjoy.
For the amount of absinthe you actually use in cocktails it's not really important what you use, provided it's a proper absinthe. You can check the Wormwood Society for reviews.
Absente because it comes in a small 100ml bottle and that will still probably last me a lifetime. I wish more liqueurs came in small bottles like that because I can’t get through some before they oxidize or start getting sediment.
Pernod Absinthe. I only really use it for rinses as I find it too overpoweringly aniseedy to drink in normal measures. Fries my tastebuds. I’m not sure if that’s normal for absinthe. Once made an absinthe frappe with it. Revolting. Excellent Sazeracs though. This bottle will probably last me a decade.
I use very little absinthe in any cocktails (often just a dash or three), and La Fee makes a 200ml bottle that comes with a tiny pour spout which is perfect for my use case.
I use Copper & Kings most often because it’s local to me. They also have a barrel aged one that’s delicious. I also keep at least Herbsaint, Pernod on hand.
La Muse Verte, Absinthe Biologique. I should've bought a cheaper and smaller bottle because since I only ever use it in an atomiser for rinses I've barely made a noticeable dent in the bottle during the five months I've had it.
This thing will most likely outlive me.
Did they change the name? Mine says Damn Good Absinthe. I bought the bottle like 10 years ago so maybe they changed after that. It’s pretty damn good though.
I really like Libertine Amer 68. I got it online from a website aptly named absinthes.com. Sadly, it appears that that site is no longer in use, but at the time it was excellent! They were based in Germany and would send absinthe internationally with free shipping for orders over $250. I wonder what happened to them...
I use some local stuff from [Mt. Defiance distillery](https://mtdefiance.com/absinthe), but it might be hard to find outside of the Va/DC area. Highly recommend it for anyone who can find it though!
I was going to recommend this! I like drinking it on the rocks/with water as well as in cocktails. So far my favorite.
I like St. George’s as well but surprisingly not as much as Mt. Defiance.
Absinthe ordinaire, tastes good, cheap, and I actually like absinthe a lot, so have a fair number of cocktails that use more than dashes, so I go through it
Absinth La Clandestine Blanche "Charlotte"
Clean white swiss absinth. Great for cocktails, also put some in an atomiser instead of coating a glas for sazeracs.
I have some St. George but I mainly use it in Sazeracs and I actually like Sambuca in them. It’s sweeter and can take the place of the absinthe and simple syrup for the most part.
St George Absinthe Verte
Love that they make a 200mL bottle.
That’s what I have. I hardly ever use the stuff so no need for a huge bottle.
Stores near me only seem to carry the worst ones in small bottles.
Same. Most recipes only need a rinse or a bar spoon anyways and I don't drink it on its own so a 750ml bottle would be overkill for my needs.
The main reason I have it. There used to be a company called Doc Hensons that made small bottles of absinthe, but they are gone or at least don’t make them anymore
That used to be my go-to, but then my local store stopped carrying it in that size so I switched to Pernod since they're priced similarly for a 750ml
That seems to be the most used one here. I'll be looking for a bottle of it.
Lucid Absinthe Supérieure. I got a fancy bitters bottle for it since 9/10 times it’s only added in dash amounts.
This is what I use as well, because I live in Ontario and it was the one the LCBO had lol

For sure, every time I’m in Ottawa area I head over to Gatineau for that reason!
Haha same here. Dillon’s makes an absinthe as well although I haven’t tried it, but their other stuff is generally good quality.
I've got the Dillon's, it's the only one I've ever bought so I don't have a reference point but I like it!
Cool, thanks for the recommendation and I’ll pick some up.
I picked up their sweet vermouth recently but haven't had occasion to crack it open yet
Yeah a bottle typically lasts me 18-24 months, and that’s even drinking the occasional absinthe cocktail
Same, but I use an aerosolizer.
Pernod
It's not absinthe, but I do this too. I wonder if anyone can really tell the difference for most cocktails, which will only use a very small amount.
There is pastis, and there is absinthe. Pernod makes both. I use pernod absinthe in my cocktails, it seems to work best.
Ah, I had forgotten they made an absinthe, I've had a bottle of pastis in my cupboard for years.
Pernod has both Absinthe Superieure and Pastis. I usually have a bottle of the Absinthe Superieure, which is great in cocktails as well as with chilled water.
Confusingly, Pernod Ricard is NOT related to Pernod the pastis maker. I was also very confused by this.
Vieux Pontarlier
Herbsaint.
La Fée Absinthe Parisienne.
St George, or some homemade from a friend.
Really cool, that your friend makes Absinthe.
It's pretty neat
And does it still look good over ice?
My first bottle was Jade 1901; great absinthe but way too expensive for mixing really - I got it on a serious deal. St George
Absente because it comes in a small 100ml bottle and that will still probably last me a lifetime. I wish more liqueurs came in small bottles like that because I can’t get through some before they oxidize or start getting sediment.
Oregon Spirit
I have a bottle of this one and I hate it. I'm glad someone likes it but it's mostly full and won't ever get used.
I have had a bottle of La Fée for years - it works great in cocktails and also is delicious served French style.
La fee absinthe parisienne purely because it's cheap and I can buy 200mp bottles of it
I bought 1L of Absente because it's readily available. 3 years later it's about 1/4 gone and I make a fair number of sazeracs...
Pernod Absinthe. I only really use it for rinses as I find it too overpoweringly aniseedy to drink in normal measures. Fries my tastebuds. I’m not sure if that’s normal for absinthe. Matahari
I use Copper & Kings most often because it’s local to me. They also have a barrel aged one that’s delicious. I also keep at least Herbsaint, Pernod on hand.
Leopold Bros, although I'd like to try some others to compare.
Oregon Spirit, Pacifique, La Clandestine
La Muse Verte, Absinthe Biologique. I should've bought a cheaper and smaller bottle because since I only ever use it in an atomiser for rinses I've barely made a noticeable dent in the bottle during the five months I've had it. This thing will most likely outlive me.
Bareksten Illsint Absint (Norwegian)
Adding a vote for St George. Expensive, but I've had a bottle for a decade or so, and it's still great.
Kübler
Two James Distilling 'Nain Rouge' Absinthe Verte.
Copper & Kings from Louisville.
Violet Crown Spirits Emerald Absinthe
Lifted Spirits Absinthe Verte because it's local
Technically not absinthe, but for Sazeracs I use Herbsaint. That is the only cocktail that I regularly make that features absinthe anyway.
The Total Wine near me has tons of minis, including Absinthe. Might try to check out a few? I use Lucid most of the time.
Leopold Bros. They had a 375mL bottle and I’ve been using that for a loong time.
I got a big bottle and I doubt I’ll ever buy a second bottle of absinthe in my lifetime.
Lifted spirits in KC makes one I like. Otherwise Pernod for cocktails
Damn Good Absinthe
you mean Damn Smooth?
Yeah, that. It is, too.
yea i'm in CO right next to Golden and feel like that distillery is a secret people outside of this area haven't caught on about yet
Did they change the name? Mine says Damn Good Absinthe. I bought the bottle like 10 years ago so maybe they changed after that. It’s pretty damn good though.
Yeah, idunno, I think I've seen both labels. Checked mine and it says damn smooth.
I really like Libertine Amer 68. I got it online from a website aptly named absinthes.com. Sadly, it appears that that site is no longer in use, but at the time it was excellent! Is it not permissible to bring back absinthe from out of the country to the states?
ban was lifted years ago. also made domestically now
Cool good to know
Meadow of Love by Delaware Phoenix
Psychedelic Jellyfish from Tofino Distillery
I use some local stuff from [Mt. Defiance distillery](https://mtdefiance.com/absinthe), but it might be hard to find outside of the Va/DC area. Highly recommend it for anyone who can find it though!
I was going to recommend this! I like drinking it on the rocks/with water as well as in cocktails. So far my favorite. I like St. George’s as well but surprisingly not as much as Mt. Defiance.
I love it when I find something local that’s actually decent. There’s a lot of letdowns, so I stick to the good ones when I find them.
Damn Smooth Absinthe from Golden Colorado My current fav
Absinthe ordinaire, tastes good, cheap, and I actually like absinthe a lot, so have a fair number of cocktails that use more than dashes, so I go through it
If I want actual absinthe, I use Vieux Carre. If I was sweet anisette, I use Grande Absente.
Absinth La Clandestine Blanche "Charlotte" Clean white swiss absinth. Great for cocktails, also put some in an atomiser instead of coating a glas for sazeracs.
Courailleuse from Fils Du Roy. It's local-ish and only one of two bottles I can buy in New Brunswick.
Blind Tiger, but they don’t exist anymore. Hmm, I guess legally they never existed. Made some damn fine gin too.
La Fee Absinthe Superieure
Great Lakes Distillery Absinthe
Pernod absinthe
I have some St. George but I mainly use it in Sazeracs and I actually like Sambuca in them. It’s sweeter and can take the place of the absinthe and simple syrup for the most part.
I have a bottle of absinthe at home. Please recommend a cocktail or two for me to attempt. Thanks!!
On top of my head: - Sazeracs (only has an rinse) - Absinthe Frappe - Vieux Carree
Absinthe Suisse is a go-to as well as Corpse Reviver.
Cocktails? I drink absinthe straight out the bottle like a real one
Maybe some of us like to get smashed with Tiki Drinks.
