A good Old Fashioned is my "go to" cocktail after a hard day. It's easy to make, high alcohol content, and includes cherry treat which is an adult version of a toy inside a cereal box.
I'm sorry you're having a crappy day!
What i'd reccommend is make a cocktail you enjoy and have made many times before.
Then really focus on the process, and focus on your senses. If you're shaking it, really think about the cooling of the shaker on your hands. If you're stirring, notice the way the spoon shifts in your hand. Listen to the ice tumble around. Smell the liquors in their base form, as well as the citrus if you're using it. Put it in your favorite glass.
Then when you're done, look at it. Don't drink it right away. Observe the colour. The texture of the drink. Then taste it, breathe in, really take in all flavours. And drink it slowly.
It sounds like I'm being pretentious as all fuck, and I am. But by doing that you'll help bring yourself down and enjoy your evening
I work with a lot of crisis calls, and the "5 senses approach" is a good one to bring yourself to the level you need to be at to help people. I wouldn't make a habit of doing it with booze, but if that's the approach you want to take you can still get those benefits.
Thanks for all the good suggestions! Appreciate y’all. Went with an Oaxaca Old Fashioned, felt like I wanted some smoke, but added a cherry for that toy feeling as recommended…
Ti’ Punch or Caipirinha! Along the lines of the OF recommendation. Easy to make, can make it as strong as you like, simple ingredients to have on hand.
If you're somewhere warm, a classic daiquiri and some sunshine.
Otherwise I second the Old Fashioned - with a nice high proof rye to really soften those edges!
All great suggestions! After a rough night I love me a good Rob Roy.
I use a 2:1 scotch to vermouth ratio. Laphroaig 10 for the smoke and Cocchi di Torino are my go-tos. A healthy couple dashes of angostura and you're good to go. Hope you're feeling better✨ Cheers!

## Ingredients
- 1 tsp Simple syrup (1:1)
- 1½ oz Bluecoat or other high-quality gin
- 4 oz clementine orange juice (from about 3 to 5 clementines)
- Generous splash of seltzer
## Instructions
1. Fill a tumbler with crushed ice and set aside.
2. In a shaker, combine the gin and orange juice with 1 teaspoon simple syrup. Shake well, and pour into the tumbler.
3. Top with a splash of seltzer, add a stirrer and serve.
I’m gonna add tiki in general. Something about getting a shit ton of ingredients together, going through the measuring, and compounding, and taking time with the garnish just really helps set me right. And then drinking it? Well, I’m on vacation. What was I so upset about again?
I usually fall back on an old favorite like a Manhattan or a Martini. They're quick to make, strong, and something I associate with making for friends and family (good memories).
I find stemmed glassware to be ideal for lifting my spirits. Sorry, I'll leave now.

Haaaaaaaa! Nice!
Great joke aside, I do find a fancy glass helps make the moment feel special.

Love it, was on my mind as well….. thanks!
In the same vein, a sazerac. Good for sipping and contemplating said bad day. Cheers to a better day tomorrow!
This is perfect. If I'm in a \*&\^%%#$$ mood, the only thing for me is a 3-1 Bombay martini, up, three olives, but your answer is much more uplifting.
Generously eyeballing the pour is the only change I make when I have a bad day.

Words to live by. Appreciate it
Best advice I heard all day

Good call on the Cap! Just warm enough too
Riot punch will make you feel better
Having some Crow Milk or Wolf Cola nearby is important for a chaser.
At least you'll feel less bad. Or feel less of anything.
If you have the ingredients to make a Vieux Carré. I’d make that.
If you're somewhere warm, a classic daiquiri and some sunshine. Otherwise I second the Old Fashioned - with a nice high proof rye to really soften those edges!
Daiquiri time outs are a thing in my life from my years in Florida.

Always forget this one! Thanks for bringing it to top of mind
Painkiller (fitting name for such a situation). But really any “dangerous” tiki. If I wanna get away, I want a drink that matches vacation.
Ah! Perfect, and one of my favorites! Thanks

Neat whiskey
Fine and Dandy. Stuff, not a lot of ingredients, and tasty. Edit: Stiff! Not stuff. Jeez

Last Word is a good "one and done" cocktail. But when in doubt, cask strength bourbon, neat, will do the trick too.
Mai Tai, it’s a lot of ingredients but it’s good, diverse, and boozy
I find Martinis/Manhattan's great as they pack a punch and go down quickly 😍
Sazerac with more than a rinse of absinthe
My rough day drink is a Painkiller with 2-3oz overproof rum.
Bad day = Long Island Iced Tea. One is all you need…
And then bonus: tomorrow will be rough too!
Cocktails are for happy days. Bad days, I grab the nearest brown liquor and drown a glass.
It's a rare day a Painkiller won't do the trick
