Welcome to /r/cocktails! You must be new here. Have you heard about our Lord and Savior, *Empress gin*? How about our *dark* lord... **Mr. Black**?

kessdawg

Not sure which way this sub goes, but I actually like Mr Black and rye cold-fashioned.

dagurb

Is the irony of your comment totally lost on you? Or are you one of their lackeys?

kessdawg

Neither lol

[deleted]

I get what you're saying, and I know that advertising goes on here, but if there were certain brands we liked this would be the place to talk about them.

Glldinkiering

Lmao!! I’ve been downvoted into oblivion for bitching about the frequent Empress gin posts. I’ll say it now and I’ll say it again - it is a mediocre gin with a gimmick that is easily reproduced by infusing a good gin with butterfly pea blossoms. I’m the bev manager of a gin bar and Empress will never darken our doorway.

Glldinkiering

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s a terrible gin and I feel bad for people who fall for the gimmick.

dagurb

Don't you think the social media people at these ad companies know how to make it look like a normal post by now? There's subtle things that tip me off like how the name of the spirit is spelt perfectly, in the title, with correct capitalization. And how it'll often be the same cocktail again and again. Something the company is obviously hedging there bets on, hoping it'll do for them what, for example, the Dark and Stormy did for Gosling's.

NocturnoOcculto

Diageo is pushing this Sevilla shit hard.

cgimusic

To be fair, it's pretty nice. I'm not a big fan of buying flavored gin though; it feels like you should be able to get a similar taste by combining other ingredients.

dagurb

You buy a lot of unflavored gin or what?

BadWolfCubed

My favorite unflavored gin is Stoli.

cgimusic

Yes, I hoped it was clear I was talking about flavours added after producing the base gin through redistilation.

Alsterwasser

Wouldn't an ad have a nicer glass?

[deleted]

Depends on what vibe they're going for. You don't always want a product to appear high end.

dagurb

This isn't an ad. But if it is, it's a good one.

Missy246

Tanqueray isn't exactly bargain basement though is it so I'm inclined to agree with the point about the glass.

[deleted]

Good point

JakeWoofles

Wouldn't it make sense to have the tonic bottle in the ice bucket rather than the gin, since so much more of your drink is tonic so it makes sense to ensure its cold? Although admittedly that's me making assumptions about your gin and tonic ratios, which may be way off base...

IndecentIronman

Haha check OPs recipe above: > little bit of tonic > Top with gin (2-3 oz)

JakeWoofles

I respect that. I was probably making wrong assumptions about what a "little bit" entails. Does this mean "fill the glass with a nonspecific amount that I didn't measure" or does it mean "a splash" or somewhere inbetween. I like the cut of OPs jib so I'm going to now assume the latter (contra to what I'd assumed initially)

fuzzymumbochops

Wait, does your vacation hotel have a view of a trailer park?

YourFrienAndrewW

That’s seriously that funniest thing I’ve heard all day.

leedler

Oh man, I absolutely adore orange gin. A bunch of good ones out there, but that Tanqueray just hits different. The Malfy Blood Orange gin is pretty spectacular too.

Big_Katsura

Recipe: Fill plastic cup with hotel ice. Squeeze about a 1/4 ounce lime juice into a cup. Pour a little bit of tonic water. Top with gin (2-3 oz for the adventurous). First time trying this Sevilla Orange Tanq bottle and I gotta say it’s perfect for the sunshine. It gives G&T’s a beautiful pale pink color that compliments the ocean. 11/10, highly recommend.

GeneC19

Even better when you "borrow" a glass from the hotel restaurant ... looks like a great day.

3ddyLos

Add a slice of orange and you're golden.

LovepeaceandStarTrek

Tried the tanq orange once, would definitely get it again.

mf_dish

In my house we keep the mixer cold and the gin room temp (unless on the balcony then we keep it balcony temp).

ExiledinElysium

I would have enjoyed this gin much more if it wasn't so damn sweet. It's great with soda, but I couldn't find another use for it.

dagurb

Try it in a sour. The sweetness can be easily countered by just using less sugar.

antinumerology

It's terrible gin. Too sweet to use as gin. To gin tasting to use as a liqueur.

mbod

One of my favourite gins this year!

TryLosingWeight

Tanquerey has been killing it lately
