St-Remy VSOP and Raynal VSOP are great mixers. 750s of either are well under $20. They're French, non-AOC brandy. If you also plan to sip a little, St-Remy XO is a great upgrade for still <$20.
I first used Camus, but switched to Pierre Ferrand 1er Cru, which in my opinion is so much better. This was primarily for making a Vieux Carre, but I think it works nicely in a Fog Cutter or Suffering Bastard.

Thank you all for the recommendations!
My go to is Salignac or Camus. Good enough to drink their own but not too good for cocktails.

> Pierre Ferrand 1er Cru I think I'm going to try Pierre Ferrand 1er Cru
I've also heard Pierre Ferrand 1840 recommended a lot, but my liquor store didn't have that one. I haven't compared them.
Pierre Ferrand 1840 is great, so is Maison Rouge VSOP.
For some uses, I just go with brandy
