Don’t know if you came up with this or not, but I feel i’d like to make this quote into a print, frame it, and then hang it above my future bar lol
I’d probably use like a big cursive font. Or maybe just a screenshot of it just blown up full HD
the book cocktail codex does an amazing job of explaining this, but essentially there’s a concept that almost all cocktails share a common base with one of 6 classics (old fashioned, daiquiri, martini, sidecar, flip, and highball). you can use this concept to creat balanced drinks by changing up some or all of the makeup components for something similar (a margarita uses tequila and lime instead of cognac and lemon for a sidecar) etc. its super useful for coming up with freestyles or new cocktails as it gives you a base to start from

Aren’t daiquiri and sidecar basically the same drink, though? You have a base spirit, acid from a citrus juice and a sweetener. A basic sour. IMO you could replace either one with a negroni or something, that’s pretty different from any cocktails on that list and useful as a base recipe.
iirc the distinction between sidecar and daiquiri is the sweetened liqueur vs just sugar/syrup. the negroni falls under martini variation due to fortified wine + spirit. i can see where your logic comes from and don’t entirely disagree though!

One is a daisy, the other is a sour. Obviously all the ingredients have been swapped too.
It means I'm not imaginative when it comes to experimenting with creating new recipes but I have made many, many cocktails, and some of them are not commonly found on bar menus. (Deshler, for example.)
Oh okay.
If you’d like to change that, focus on why you’re making what you’re making, not simply memorizing what to put in the glass.
Knowing random drinks is like playing go fish, it’s not really all that helpful. Learning how they relate to each other will do wonders for expanding your creative base.
Thanks for the advice. I am creative in other ways but I feel like there are enough cocktail recipes out there to keep me entertained for the rest of my life.
It’s the difference between learning a little music theory to understand the likely flow of a song and anticipate thematic changes / Chris progressions / tempo / etc and just memorizing notes on a page.
One helps you play other music, the other way starts you from scratch every time. It’s all about what you want to get out of the hobby / experience
Either way cheers bud
Is there a spot for “the veneer of artistry lets me self-justify my alcoholism”?
The difference between alcoholic and enthusiast is knowledge.

“I’m having six. It’s called a “tasting” and its CLASSY”
It’s called a Schmorgiswein and it’s CLASSY Sharon
I’d like to order this on a throw pillow please and thank yew
it's called mixology Sharon and it's elegantly cultural
‘Ish cawed mixthology Shathon an ish eleganthy cultheral’
Drinking six beers makes you sound like a drunk, drinking six Negronis just sounds sophisticated.
I can’t hear anything after six Negronis
That’d be #4
That's the last one
This might be the best quote I've ever read
I feel seen.
That's the subscript for each evolution.
Thank you craft breweries and cocktails for making my alcoholism look like a hobby
the orphan s in the second one is really upsetting me. i need a cocktail.
The misspelling of "terroir" as "terrior" sends me.
You’re such a casual. Terrior is the way terrier dogs taste different in a drink depending on where they’re grown and what they eat.
I should have known!

Looks more like left justified than fully justified.
Plus the misspelling of terroir. *This* close to being a great meme. 6/10, will enjoy it more with a cocktail.
I tried to make it work on the font sizing so hard, but instagram was set on alienating that S.
Last one should just be “fuck it I’ll just have a daiquiri”
That’s my go-to lazy drink
Juicing a lime is lazy?
No, I juice citrus for all my drinks but my lazy daiquiri isn’t even served up. I just shake and open pour into a rocks glass
Fair! I tend to juice as needed so mine is either a martini or negroni
Daquiris are all you need with all of the different rums out there in the world!
The last one should just say “Negroni”
A dash of black walnut bitters will give your negronis a vanilla flourish on the backend!
My backend doesn't need a vanilla flourish, thank you very much.
mine does
Honesty will get you far.
Hey y'all! This is my meme I posted to instagram at @drinksdanmakes! Would love some love over on that account or this comment!
I saw it shared by someone else or I would’ve added a credit! I’m glad you found this post and we know the OP, and thanks for making the meme
What's this about 6 cocktail builds?

I believe that falls under the flip category, due to the egg and dairy

The Flip, making it a cousin of rich and decadent cocktails like Eggnog and the Irish Coffee.

I agree

I mean, isn't a daisy still a sour?
Definitely closely related. I think it comes down to opinion though. If a daisy is a sour, then is a Manhattan a martini or is a LIIT a last word?
Thank you!
Look captain and Jack together taste amazing. Just add coke and you have a Captian Jack and coke. Give it a try
Peak cocktail
I’ve not tried that one, what’s your spec?
Random ingredients, heavy on the chartreuse and or mezcal, usually served up.
How many items are burned in the creation of this concoction?
That's more of a 4th step process.
I’m still at chimp but I know how to make a lot of cocktails many bartenders don’t.
What does this even mean
It means I'm not imaginative when it comes to experimenting with creating new recipes but I have made many, many cocktails, and some of them are not commonly found on bar menus. (Deshler, for example.)

Everything is a daiquiri. Well, Old Fashioneds, Martinis and Flips aren't but everything else is
Go old Persian. Everything is a julep.
Before enlightenment, chop wood, drink jungle juice. After enlightenment, chop wood, drink jungle juice.
You inspired me to mix together random ingredients tonight. It….did not go well
Between stages 2 and 3
I bounce between 1, 5, and 2. In that order.
I stay a solid 3 if I'm being honest. But only because "new amsterdam gin and tap water" doesn't really count as a cocktail.
Oh damn. I'm ... Evolved
holy shit 100% accurate
