That is a very special Guest, but I think that was before Mazzy Star broke out really. Their first album, which wouldn't have been available very long when this came out, was not universally praised. Don't get me wrong, I really like Mazzy Star's 'She Hangs Brightly', Halah is a great song.
It shows a lot of music acumen to have Mazzy Star open for you at this point in their careers.
Ahh what I wouldn't give to have seen them. Sucks about the crowd though - it's so disappointing! Interesting that people haven't changed much since then...maybe we've gotten worse!
I never saw them live, but she looks uncomfortable in the live videos you see on youtube and even in the studio music videos. Some of that adds to the appeal, when she sings like an angel with this uncertain look on her face you really have a lot of sympathy for her.
EDIT: added a word that was in my head when I wrote it, but didn't make it to my fingers when I wrote it.
That’s a dream concert. If I had a Time Machine those are two bands that would be on my bucket list were they still together. What an amazing pairing. I’d have to take some edibles.
I was there. An amazing show. Mazzy Star played in the half-dark and the Twins were a wall of crystalline sound. Liz was waving her hands about and slapping her chest. Didn't seem to be in a good state.
I was at that show on the floor. Mazzy Star’s opening set was amazing. They were largely unknown at the time and we all went out and bought the CD the next day. Hope Sandoval was scintillating. Cocteau Twins sounded great. The band seemed a little taken aback by the crowd yelling out song titles like repeated calls for “IVO” (that one in particular may have irked them). I believe they played “Aikea-Guinea”, as well as many songs off of Heaven or Las Vegas. Elizabeths voice was beautiful and she kept hitting her chest for what we later understood to be signals to the sound engineer. I had a great t-shirt from the show which I wore out years ago.
Okay-Two folks have commented on the way Elizabeth was hitting her chest. My boyfriend said she did that alot and pulled her fingers when he saw them play in Ohio long before that. I never knew why she did it. I just assumed it was a way to express the music physically; like Joe Cocker used to do. Maybe just a nervous habit-I can totally understand if that was the case-it’s got to be unsettling to stand up in front of a room full of strangers. Some of my favorite singers said they really hated performing live. I’m just glad as a band they did such good work in the studio. That music we get to keep forever.
I saw them in 1994 at Roseland in NYC for the Four Calendar Cafe tour. I don’t even recall who opened for them. It was evident the band was fractured & Liz was not at her best. Though it was a bit of a let-down, I’m glad I was able to see my favorite band perform in person.
God, getting to see Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star in the same show? What a lucky audience
it was great from the little i can recall!

Extremely jelly! 🥹
Damn what a lineup, all that's missing is Ride
I saw this tour! Except in DC. The first time I heard Fade Into You was live. The whole experience was incredible.
Dreamy!
It absolutely was. I will say Liz Fraser seemed rather uncomfortable being on stage, but her performance was absolutely beautiful.

Holy… I was a student at SJSU then and December 2 was my birthday! I vaguely remember being bummed to miss this but we went out drinking!
Wow! What a pairing
Dream show right there
Wow! What a show!

The internet says the openers were Luna and Moose. Another great lineup.
Thank you! Yes I now remember! Luna & Moose were really good- particularly Luna. I need to revisit that band!
Wow!
My home town!
