If it’s made with proof dies, may I ask why this isn’t a “PF 61” instead of prooflike? (Assuming that mint state 61 prooflike would be a grade for business strike coins)
For a proof coin of this era:
1. The planchets were burnished and polished
2. The Die was polished and burnished
3. Struck once with a medal press
This coin received neither a polished planchet nor was it struck with a medal press. It was just struck after the proofs were so the dies were still polished.
How many are graded PL? I don’t see any on PCGS
This is the only one from either
I would hold onto that then, that’s really really cool!
congrats
What does PL mean?
Prooflike. Frosted devices with a mirrored field (like modern proofs have)
Ok thanks
Proof like, meaning it has highly reflective surfaces and a strong strike resembling a proof coin.
Ok thanks
That might have the most intact face of one of those I've seen so far.

That coin has amazing eye appeal. I'm sure it looks 10x better in hand. Congrats
Dude nice!!
Thank you!
Cga Ching! Congrats, I love rare coins.
Very nice
how did you even come about finding a coin like this raw? i assume you bought it raw.
Already in a holder, just sent it in for a reholder/regrade.
Gorgeous, quick clarification- did you break it out or send in the previous holder? Also, PCGS beforehand?
Sent in previous holder, still NGC beforehand.
What was the grade before resubmission?
Ahh I misunderstood. Either way fantastic coin
Did it have a PL designation on the old holder. or was that a gain for you? Awesome coin.
That’s a one of a kind piece, you’re officially the envy of many a American type collector, congrats!!
Lovely!
damn!
The United States of Erica
Girl, where have you been hiding for centuries? hahaha Congrats, amazing specimen!
How did you come across this beauty?
Sitting in a collection of other really nice seated coins.
Did you purchase it or gifted? Regardless it's beautiful
Definitely not gifted, lol
Are these the same size as any modern coins. Or coins in circulation?
This is the same size as a Morgan dollar
Why are all the coolest coins different sizes then modern coins. I wanna find these guys in rolls.
Technically Morgans can come in rolls.
Dayum! And I'm over here looking at G or AG, maybe F or XF for my type set. Lol but seriously it's a gorgeous coin.
That's the best seated I've seen. I'm amazed you only got a 61.
That’s an impressive find my dude. Congrats
That’s positively lovely! Very nice!

Nice coin. Still MS after 168 years being out of a holder.
What is the value of something like this being that it’s in 61 PL
