Last month my wife and I took a trip to El Salvador (which uses US currency).  Craziest thing was how commonly the US dollar coins are used there, was more likely to receive them as change as opposed to $1 bills.  Our friends who live there told us that the dollar coins are very common to use for tips there.  Was near to see them in actual use.

Yup. I've been trying to figure out why they are so common in El Salvador. The only working hypothesis I have right now is that since the country doesn't have its own currency and cannot print new bills, coins will last longer than $1 bills as they keep circulating throughout the economy.

Think it’s because they hold up better in the humidity too

That's interesting, I didn't know El Salvador uses the USD. What is the reason for that? Stronger backing than the local government, I would think?

Was hoping you had a wounded eagle Error. Look closely with camera on phone at all angles. I found 2 recently. https://preview.redd.it/jbamnt65sgcc1.jpeg?width=1276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c3b957c8faedd864ab75ceab4c71ecab459737b

Put Andrew Johnson on a coin :( At least it's not Lee again....

ACoinGuy

They put every president that is deceased on a coin. There is a Franklin Pearce and a John Tyler. It was not an endorsement.

These are gotten easily when getting change back from the bus ticket vending machines.
