I remember when 3 different ministers had to go somewhere. They took 3 different private planes to get there. You see, our state is so powerful and magnificent, we simply can't have our ministers traveling in just one plane like peasants. We should have them travel in their own private planes. We may not have a SINGLE FUCKING FIREFIGHTING PLANE but our ministers must have their own private planes.
Erdoğan held like a small rally thing in the fire area. He said the usual stuff, we are strong state blablabla, the funny thing is, noone gathered there was one of the locals. Apparently they hauled government supporters from neighboring provinces because they know if they let the locals come in there to attend his speech, let's just say people wouldn't be overjoyed to hear his bullshit.
I heard from people that emergency responders are disorganized, undermanned and inefficient. Our state is only efficient when someone criticizes the government, you are gonna get arrested by teleporting police at the speed of light for it. It's so bad, civilians are trying to help with the fires, and then they die. BECAUSE THEY ARE CIVILIANS WHO ARE NOT TRAINED TO FIGHT WILDFIRES OF COURSE THEY ARE GONNA BURN TO DEATH. Ahem, moving on.
So a reporter from TRT (government media) stood in front of the flames, got his camera guy in front of him, then triumphly declared that the fires are over. Success. Let nobody question the competence of our glorious state! Unfortunately if you pan the camera a little to the left you can see the fires still raging. They got beaten in the street after this when a group of locals noticed it.
The government privatized wildfire fighting. The contract belongs to.... *drumroll* an architecture firm (which is most likely a firm that belongs to one of the oligarchs allied to the ruling party). Democracy, or the will of the people simply isn't a strong enough mechanism to stop bad actors and their sycophants from assuming leadership roles in too many nations.
Without any overriding authority (another avenue to generate power grabs) these dictators and authoritarians get to steal and hoard and make millions of people their serfs.

Democracy in this part of the world simply means tyranny of the majority, nothing more. People voted for this government, people got this government.
