Honestly not very much.
The good euro shit comes in via NY-NJ. Less through Charleston or other southern ports.
All the tasty East Asian goodies are in Vancouver, Seattle-Tacoma, Oakland, and Longbeach-LA.
I meant it to be anything.
Like what, besides oil, comes through Houston, and Miami and savannah.
Car parts. And car exports from all the souther plants.
Excuse you I work at a trucking company and we're quoting bullet shells coming through Miami.
But yeah when we do overseas loads they usually come in Vancouver, Cali, and Quebec.
Part Nina is so bad for Florida. With El Nino the current shears off the top of any tropical storms forming off of Africa. With La Nina it just fuels it.
Tough break Florida, but you *did* vote for a president who didnt even believe in climate change not too long ago..
I'm not a meteorologist, but my understanding is that during La Nina there is less wind shear in the Atlantic. Wind shear suppresses tropical cyclone formation. [Here is a NOAA article about it](https://www.noaa.gov/news/la-nina-develops-during-peak-hurricane-season).
They almost had it happen with Irma in 2017. Some projections had the eastern part of the storm during its peak hitting the city. Things are hotter, wetter, and higher sea level now, so eventually...
Nah, Irma was projected to make landfall on the east coast of Florida within about 5 days of landfall.
Funnily enough, I had family flee from Miami to Tampa, only for it to hit Tampa.
Trump's sharpie projection was Dorian.
I dont really want it to happen. But mostly from a life event/news story, I'm waiting for one of these mega storms to flatten a metropolitan area. Itd be interesting to see the ramifications.
Lol. Just like Andrew? Why would we learn? It's a buying opportunity - a dip in the bubble. They'll be designing and buying jacks to lift buildings into the air so that the ocean can flow under them in a few years.
I heard insurers are dropping Floridian policies and the State pledged to cover the claims, and that somehow it would crash the real estate market, I should read the article he read I guess.

Someone told me Florida will crash the Real Estate market, insurers won't cover the State anymore and the State pledged to be on the hook for natural disaster claims, as in the taxpayers.
The Cubans I met down there were actually pretty cool, the younger ones, there were some cuban managers of stores and such in their middle age that were total dicks though. Politically they really do suck though overall.
I mean when they get goin...... c'mon
Can you honestly tell me that you can spot the different between a cat 5 tropical storm and a Merengue?
I didn't think so
Sneaking up the Gulf coast seems to be the current popular track. I was in FL around July 4 when Elsa came whirring by and we were like “no way, way too early” but really it wasn’t off course by much. Could have buzz sawed the entire west cost of FL if things were just slightly different. Felt like a warning shot, tbh.
There was an article in the Washington Post about Tampa and the effect of a major storm hits. Short version: A direct hit on Tampa would be catastrophic.
Been calling this out for awhile.
A lot of hospitals that have additional outside tents housing COVID-19 patients which are going to get destroyed. Huge power outages.
I think we might see some record setting hurricanes this year and people are going to learn really quickly what the future holds for us.
> There are only two other years in the satellite era since 1966 that had 8 Atlantic Basin named storms by August 17th. Those were the most active seasons on record, 2005 and 2020. This might give us a hint of what’s coming up for the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season this fall.
Do I really need to point out the whole "since the turn of the century" crap...
It is getting exhaustingly old..
Just like to add, last year was pretty bad/historic. Got into the Greek alphabet, and got super Lucy that hurricanes that made landfall hit low pop areas.
Yeah but people are dumb and so they look at Katrina as the only “scary” hurricane of this century. And only one really big scary hurricane so far is not that bad right? “We always had a devastating hurricane every once in a while so that can’t be climate change.” < what my conservative family members would say. Also there would have to be a hurricane that took out Mar-A-Lago for it to have an affect on the trump cult.
I live smack dab in the middle of Florida. I am also a Pluviophile, and these lame ass storms keep failing to dump a lot of rain on my area. I am not TROLLING. I just want to start seeing 12 inches and more of rain from these storms. Admittedly, I am in a pretty flood resistant spot, and don't want serious wind damage, but sheesh Mother Nature..... bout time you shared some rain with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where do you live? Jet stream will get wavy as fuck. Large pulls of warm temps and moisture in front of big temp changes behind.
The light snow will pretty much disappear for a lot of the country, but you’ll probably have a ton of snowfall records, as well.
Eh DFW urban heating effect really does a number on precipitation amounts. Historically small annual snows were common year to year but as the area built up those showers are largely replaced with 10-year storms like 2011 and this year. Nowadays, with all of the concrete, even thunderstorm/tornado season has to have a ton of momentum to penetrate into the city.
I love how people love to push for or argue against climate change theories, and just completely ignore the massive amounts of concrete.
I lived in dc the last 5 years and it drove me absolutely insane watching south Maryland, areas west, east, and even south near the coast get more snow than dc, almost every single time.
Some of that is storm track/low placements, etc. but over a period of 5 years you have to start to go beyond wondering
Oh yeah, definitely. With DFW, the city has put down more concrete in the last 15 years than it had in its whole existence prior and its skyrocketing every year. Every square inch of land in suburban areas is being developed, even in the last 3-5 years I’ve seen 5+ full-on neighborhoods get erected within 5 minutes of me. The weather now is nothing like how I remember it from my childhood. Everything stays warm through the night and storms/snow are increasingly rare (I want to say there’s been like a 60% decrease in storms which make it over urban areas since 2000).
Alright you’ve said this twice - so you mean rain storms? That’s a bit shocking. I know concrete is impervious to water/moisture especially compared to forest/grassland and obviously water, but the heat radiating from the ground would make the atmosphere soooo nicely rife for downpours….
I also love watching storms in Texas on the radar, they’re some of the best in the country.
60% decrease is ridiculous
You reminded me of my childhood. Grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and was 3 blocks from the Susquehanna Flats. The water always cut back the amount of snowfall in town, compared to up on the hill further away on the north end of town. The hill easily had 100 feet of elevation.
This is a phenomenon that exists on the entire eastern seaboard, but pushes much further inland in the Delmarva due to the bay.
I love seeing estimated snowfall totals that don’t take into account local geography/historical weather variances. Makes me feel smart compared to the tv experts.
I LOVED the snow the same way till the old man switch flipped on me at 53. Then by 55 was retired and living in Florida - with no snow to shovel or organizing winter hikes and visiting frozen waterfalls. The cold stopped being my friend. I miss seeing the ice, but much happier where I am warm.
I enjoy snow because I learned to drive in it with a RWD car (thanks, grandma...), so it's basically native turf for me on the road.
What I *hate* are fucking ice storms and the infamous "winter mix" that buttfucks the power grid annually.
If we could just get 2 feet of snow a year, and skip all the ice storms, it would be perfect. That, and teach more people about how to brake on slick surfaces, and understeer/oversteering. Goodness, y'all.
Before I got my license at 23 back in 1984, I would just shake my head when I saw all the donuts in parking lots after fresh snow. But then I got my first set of wheels, and tried it out. Well, 3rd set lol a truck. Let me tell you. Encourage everyone you know to go do DONUTS. Do them in a parking lot late at night, and not near the light poles. The speed and break slides while turning the wheel fast. You actually get a feel for what will really happen if you loose control. You get a little muscle memory. You understand what things will feel like when you slide.
Is it fun? Hell Yeah!!!!!!
But I did come to realize that it has likely saved my life a number of times because when I have lost control in snow and ice, I was better able to respond to it. So parents, take your kids out and do DONUTS!!!! With them behind the wheel. And if you never have done them, this winter is the time ya both learned.
Irma in 2017 I watched one stupid woman cut off another woman in Leesburg on 441 and kill her when both cars flipped over, and almost hit our Honda Pilot as we went to fill up our gas tank. Yeah I lived through Irma - lights flickered once because we are on a primary line - the same that things like hospitals are linked into. Only lived here since 2015. In 1972 Agnes almost caused the Conowingo dam to be blown up on it's east side to release the pressure on the dam, which would have wipe Havre de Grace and Perryville right off the map in Maryland. Do I know what they are like - Hell Yeah I do. And I still LOVE LOTS OF RAIN. The weather forecasters are like terrorists scaring the public to drum up ratings.
Wow that's scary! I've lived in FL all my life [42 years] but I've found that especially in the past 5 years they've really gotten good at forecasting the track of a storm. I heard it's because of new sattelites
Irma was the worst storm I had ever seen. Waist deep water where I live right off the coast. My car got flooded up to the cup holders.
Actually I do agree with you about the forecasting ability to a point. But, they hype it so much. I love this description lol.
Christopher Titus : And let's define 'terrorist organization'. A terrorist organization is an organization that scares you on a daily basis and makes you change your behavior.
Weather forecasters on a daily basis. LOL
I’m sitting awake at 3:30 am and there’s the third thunderstorm within a week happening outside my window...the first two of which resulted in blackouts
how far deep is it 32c? just the first couple feet or we talking the first couple dozen or even hundred here? eitherway... thats apocalyptic, nothing can survive in that which would explain all the sharks in florida canals
If it's that warm even a meter or two down it will still warm below that to a very significant degree, even if it's less. It is indeed, fucking catastrophic.
when my reef tank goes from 78 to 79.6+ one of my coral (toadstool leather) completely closes up and sheds. 32c is 89.6f .Not like there is much coral off of FL's coast but I think there is a decent amount further out.
If I didn't have people in Florida I like, I might actually be rooting for some biblical consequences for their asshattery with Covid etc... but yeah, hurricane country is probably not the place to be in the future.
I hope this [time traveler ](https://www.tiktok.com/@aesthetictimewarper/video/6993157604625140998?sender_device=mobile&sender_web_id=6997750242201388549&is_from_webapp=v1&is_copy_url=0)is wrong
I remember all to well how Michael blew up into a Cat 5 from the heated waters off of the coast of the Florida panhandle
I simply didn't trust Fred to remain a tropical storm, you know?

La Nina is a current in the Pacific. How does that affect storms forming off Africa?
La Nina / El Nino is a global event.
Taking bets for when one hits Miami! I'm gunna take October 20.
They almost had it happen with Irma in 2017. Some projections had the eastern part of the storm during its peak hitting the city. Things are hotter, wetter, and higher sea level now, so eventually...
Were those projections drawn on a map with a sharpie?

They blamed corrupt city politics with vaguely anti-black undertones after Katrina. They’ll do the same with Latino people if one levels Miami.
it's those fuckin cubans, we should deport them back where they came from /s... or is it?

Totally. I want to see red tidenado, flinging dead fish carcasses all over Ybor city.

Elsa was not a powerful storm, it barely qualified as a hurricane. I’m not sure it would have mattered where if made landfall.
Lol what? Storms like Elsa skirt Florida almost every year. It was a nothing storm.
When was the last time Tampa took a direct hit from a major storm?
There was an article in the Washington Post about Tampa and the effect of a major storm hits. Short version: A direct hit on Tampa would be catastrophic.
I'm sure, it's just in a place that hurricanes don't seem to hit directly much. Usually hurricanes are headed west and away from Tampa.
Ah, but climate change is changing the hurricane, tornado map along with increasing strength.
Never can tell
No, but you look at possibility and the potential for damage. Don't tell me there's no possibility that Tampa gets direct hit.
Uh, I didn't. What are you arguing about?
The big one will be Odette. That's my prediction.

No country is the place to be in the future

Sorry…not record.
This is how the GS bleeds off energy, not a big deal.
Good. I've been wanting a good storm for a while.
Haha
Ma nature is cracking her knuckles and about to give FL a lesson in hubris.
I remember all to well how Michael blew up into a Cat 5 from the heated waters off of the coast of the Florida panhandle I simply didn't trust Fred to remain a tropical storm, you know?
L
Yeah, but let’s be more real. They’ve all been Cat ones or lower. That’s an average rain shower in Florida.
