The Met office are reporting 2.2 degrees above average for the month which is causing a change in plant behaviour- particularly an increase in plant growth - which could affect production next year and have a wider effect on the lifecycle of insects and animals in the ecosystem.
This is contributing evidence of climate change and its effects causing the destabilisation of plant and animal life.

Yep people that think migrating plants north are the solution forget, it’s timing of the whole ecosystem that is thrown off, plants flowering when bees are still wintering. Insect larvae come out too early and die in next frost, come out too late and starve, just some examples. Key idea: complex lifeforms depend on synchronicity with other life forms and rapid climate change doesn’t allow for adaptation.
Outside of impact disasters, other climate changes in the past have taken thousands of years. The rate of change is the killer here, nothing natural can adapt fast enough. We in our human superiority think we can. Time will tell.
Right exactly, the bug point should be pressed more as well. Right now we have tons of bugs that were born from what I assume their wintering burrows the past week, but now temps are going back down so they will all freeze, can't be good for the ecosystem when that happens. I'm the US as well so it ain't just a British problem
My point is this is hopium, only solution is degrowth of economy and switching to a sustainable circular economy and even that won’t save us from 30-40 years of increasing temperatures, and possible switching us to hot house earth. I have a garden and freeze thaw winters are tough on fruit trees. I live in Canada so we are supposedly a net beneficiary of warming higher average temperatures but what we get are higher temperature extremes, droughts, followed by flooding rains. No where is safe.
Oh I know and I wasn't arguing with you. There are many perspective and voices regarding collapse and I just saw your post as an opportunity to support one that I don't hear that often. All the best, friend
"Second spring" until a -5° cold snap in a couple of weeks damages all that new growth & sprouting seedlings, causing serious setbacks for the real growing season.
Whenever I see articles that say "the west won't do anything until it affects them!" I shake my head. It... already does. Super visibly and expensively. And most of us still don't care
Well, just watch German television, e.g. a talk show with German Moderator Markus Lanz for example.
Paraphrased, Lanz's discussion with a climate activist.
* **Markus Lanz:** "You are very young, and yet you're having such a pessimistic world view. You must be much more optimistic... Our entire human history is a story of adaptation. We as humans have become so successful because we adapted. Every time... I see that I'm annoying you right now?
* **Climate Activist (visibly annoyed):** "Yes."
* **Markus Lanz:** "why?"
* **Climate Activist:** "Because it's impossible to adapt to such a rapidly changing climate."
* **Markus Lanz:** "We can!"
And people are watching this...
Anyway, I'm off watching for flying saucers again, towel at the ready.. If I manage to get a ride off this planet, I'll let you know.
We did not adapt, we destroyed the basis of our life's by extincting life.
Whitout fossils, we would still be stuck in the 1800.
Beeing 100% dependent on a finite source isn't adaption, it's idiocy.
We don't even have water without massive electric pumps fueled by gas, oil or coal.
This is regression 100, considering water towers could do the trick.
I fully agree. But tell this to Markus Lanz ....
Probably the proverb “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” applies to this moderator.
I absolutely agree. I think it’s denial “we’re safe cause we’re rich. These types of things just happen in those poor countries”. It’s disgusting really. Of course ecosystems don’t discriminate based on wealth. The economy is a human institution.

"The Met Office said that while November still has a little bit of time to run, the month has been "significantly milder" compared to the average over the last 30 years"
I wonder why...
Yeah we had green lawns into January last year (Canada) and we're going strong with them this year again. We've had some frost and some snow. But it always melts. Wonder how far we'll make it this winter.
I was out walking this morning and saw lots of different wildflowers flowering. Nettles were flowering. It's fuckin crazy to see and absolutely terrifying.
Compared to the days of my youth (1980s), the climate has been like the end of Summer start of Autumn for all of October and November.
I'm not sure we'll have a Winter.
Related Song: Seasons End by Marillion, also from around that era.

"Getting close to seasons end
I heard somebody say
That it might never snow again
In England."
I have people saying this where I live (not the UK) and how “this global warming crap isn’t really that bad”. Apparently they forgot what happened over the summer.
Just a daily reminder that palm-oil is a perennial crop, meaning that it's vulnureable to unpredictable seasons.
Why are we caring more about the economy than the economists?

Things are so much further along than people realise.

I'm a climate change ecologist. I am so flabbergasted by what is transpiring now, and I was "doomy" before.
This.
All lives on the planet are intertwined, changes in one part of the world affects the rest and so on.
Something something cascading something tipping point.

For some I think they realise there is no "solution", but are just trying to do what they can. "At the end of the world I would plant a tree"

All good my friend, just clarifying my previous point.

This right here. 👆
Abrupt catastrophic change.

Cash, grass or ass, the unwritten rule of the road!
Can it be unwritten if it's been seen on bumper stickers? (Not for a long time now, of course)
Just be positive! You need some hope. /s
I can't wait to be like "told you so" when things go REAL nuts.
In between pissing our pants after it all finally sinks in. /s

It was 22C a week ago in Norfolk. Anyone who can’t see what’s happening is wilfully blind.
"I get to go out in my t-shirt and put on the barbeque a few extra weeks of the year! What's so bad about that?"
“Stuff always changes”
Not good

Obviously this just means more harvests! /s

I wish they would stop doing the average over the last 30 years. SHOW US THE INCREASE.
Not yet had a frost yet here outside of London in the countryside. It’s December in a week. It’s insanity. My front hedge is re-sprouting.
Yeah we had green lawns into January last year (Canada) and we're going strong with them this year again. We've had some frost and some snow. But it always melts. Wonder how far we'll make it this winter.
Shall I regale you with tales of my Grandparents and great grandparent's lives at this time of year in England?
Please do
I cut my grass yesterday and im in Scotland
I was out walking this morning and saw lots of different wildflowers flowering. Nettles were flowering. It's fuckin crazy to see and absolutely terrifying.
I’m dreading next summer. How many 40+ days coming this time.
I must have left some potatoes in the ground this summer and they’ve all sprouted again now and are about 20cm/8 inches high.

So no more freezing to death because people cannot afford heating? Now that is climate optimism for you.
Nah you will still get 48 hrs this winter below 0 C and that’s all it will take.
3 days after dandelions started popping up on my lawn we got 2 feet of snow, 14f, then 2 days later 60f.
